Spring has arrived and there’s so much going on it’s hard to keep track. The last three weeks have taken us across the Atlantic to the Geneva International Motor Show, Norway and Amsterdam. Here at home we are preparing to open our next round of Tesla Stores and Service Centers and are finalizing plans for our Spring Test Drive events across the country. Be on the lookout for events in your area soon.
MILESTONES
Model S is now officially a World Car. Not only can drivers be seen daily across North America smiling as they cruise down the highway, they can also now be seen doing test drives across Europe and Asia as part of the Get Amped International Tour. We are adding another forty test drive cars to the fleet in the next few weeks and look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming test drive events.
Over the past few months it’s been fun to watch the company achieve new milestones. First it was the factory ramping up to full production in December. During the past three weeks we have averaged more than 500 Model S deliveries per week, and it looks like we’ll be setting another record this week. With all these new cars on the road, it’s fun to watch as Model S racks up the miles. Model S drivers have traveled more than 12 million miles since deliveries first began. That’s a lot of CO2 emissions saved! And how are things going in California? Well, today we registered our 3,000th Model S in the Golden State. That pretty much says it all!
STORES AND SERVICE
After a very busy fall season opening new Tesla Stores and our recent opening in Austin, Texas during SXSW weekend, it’s time to hit the road again. Our newest Tesla Store in the Los Angeles area will be opening soon in Century City, followed shortly thereafter by a second store in Miami. From cruising Pacific Coast Highway in Los Angeles to Ocean Drive in Miami— what better way to take in the sights than in Model S?

Many of you may recall about two years ago when we opened our first new design Tesla Store at Santana Row in San Jose, California. It was our first prototype new-design store and has been a great learning experience for us during the past two years. Customer response has been so positive that we need to expand. We will be relocating to a new, larger location in the next few weeks. Thanks to everyone who has frequented our Santana Row store and has made it such a great success. We’re growing because of your support.
Speaking of support, we will continue to open new service centers all across North America and Europe in 2013. Some of you may have noticed our new Tesla Service webpage that went live last week. This new page provides a more in-depth look at what’s included in Tesla Service, our prepaid Model S service plans, and a new tire and wheel road hazard program. It also includes new Roadster service offerings. In the next few weeks we will be enabling the ability to purchase prepaid Model S service plans through your MyTesla account. Not to worry, no matter when you took delivery of your car, you will have at least 30 days from when the system goes live to sign up for any prepaid service plan you like. We will send you an email to let you know when your MyTesla account has been activated to purchase these plans.
FREE LONG DISTANCE
How about taking a road trip this spring? One of the most frequently asked questions we hear is, “When are we getting a Supercharger in our area?” We’re glad you’re asking. We will be adding Supercharger coverage in many areas over the next three to four months, installing our first Superchargers in the Pacific Northwest, Texas, Illinois, and Florida with additional coverage in the Northeast and California. We’re also expanding existing locations like Harris Ranch, where we’re adding five more Superchargers in the next month. Supercharging is the perfect way to visit out of town friends and family, and remember, it’s always free!
WRAP UP
It’s been a very active start to the New Year and we’re just beginning. New and expanded stores, new service centers and more Superchargers are on the way. We look forward to hitting many new milestones this year, but most of all we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our openings and events throughout the world. We are driven forward by your support and enthusiasm. Let’s make a difference in 2013 together.

w00t! Keep rocking!
I'm at over 4,000 miles now on my Model S. From rush hour to open roads, it's always a pleasant drive.
Thanks for the update George! Awesome work. Quick question: what is the cause of the delay in opening the Tyson's Corner, Virginia store? Apparently it has been ready for months. If it is state bureaucracy holding it up please let us know how we can help -- willing to organize petitions and write-ins to the relevant state office(s) CCing the Governor's office.
George, any word on the 40kWh Model S?
What about the variants and options that Elon alluded to in the y/e shareholders' call? Cabriolets and pickups?
Wow George, amazing news, which by now, has become predictable from you and your team! The mind boggles and keep up the great work. Thanks for including the mileage count also.
I LOVE my car! And my husband keeps stealing it to take it to work. He has a deposit down on the X - he can't wait! Whenever we get into one of our other gas-powered cars, it feels archaic and ridiculous - even wrong! The sooner we replace them all with electric, the better! :-) Thank you for making such a reliable all-electric vehicle! We feel we are witnessing history in the making and we're so pleased to be a part of it. Maybe you can plan on making a more affordable car for those who can't afford the current S price? And I'm looking forward to more stations. We live in San Jose and I travel north frequently - Healdsburg would be a great place to install one, and Arcata! We've already taken it south down the 5 and east to Azusa - would love a station in Fontana or something, too. But I'm sure you're going as fast as you can - sorry - I'm just excited! Keep at it!
Any idea where the Texas supercharger is going to be?
Thanks for the update, we can't wait for our Texas superchargers (and a San Antonio store/service center). Keep up the great work!
www.teslamodels.wordpress.com
Keep up the awesome work! Fantastic! Congrats!
George, How about an update on the Opportunity Console(s) you promised would be forthcoming at last summer's Get Amped events?
We look forward to Interstate 40 getting SuperChargers. No better way to enjoy some of the Route 66 historic destinations than by driving Model S across the USA!
George any word on the Southern Hemisphere/ right hand drive?
Fantastic update George, so exciting to see all this progress. Hats off to you and your entire team for growing the company at this rapid rate with such passion and determination. Wow, 3000 in the Golden State alone!! Impressive...
Enthusiasm is high for sure. Missing my P85 here in Norway!!!
Will 500 deliveries per week will be the normal delivery rate for the rest of the year?
More superchargers in California would be great. I love my P85, Go to Tahoe weekly from the Bay Area, yes up 7000 ft over the pass and park in 20 degree weather overnight with no issues. The iPhone app lets me finish charging when I get up in the morning and get the battery and car warm while plugged in. So much for the uninformed New York Times writer. I charge at the Folsom Supercharger.(which should be located on Interstate 80 at the Roseville Mall instead to allow cross country Interstate traffic not just dead ending in South Lake Tahoe. That mall is also much larger too.)
It only takes about 30 minutes to top off the tank to 240 Miles range and Reno is no problem even with the heater on and driving 75 (unofficially)
Go Telsa. I love driving my car. 3500 miles in 6 weeks
Craig
We need to get a Tesla store here in Salt Lake City. With so many tech companies moving their headquarters here, like Adobe, and others. There for sure are going to be more of us looking at getting a Tesla. I know that I will be planning on getting myself one soon! Lets get a dealership here and some superchargers!! Would be happy to help you guys get things rolling!
Can’t wait to Supercharge up the west coast from SOCA to Seattle to give the grandkids a ride in the kiddy seats….. Go TSLA ! ! !
500 a week? WOH, that mains ALL signatures for Europe being build in one week? (and ours too?!). My son desperately want the Tesla in june, to visit his ground school, before he leaves to middle school.... ha ha (and his daddy hopes he can drive the Tesla on a lot of summer, hiking trips as well!
Please start planning super chargers in Europe and we can plan holidays and ski vacation for next year!! Its so exciting to be in the front row of a strong evolution/revolution.. A dutch S owner
You all have accomplished amazing feats. You can be proud. I do have a question about why service centers are built in such close proximity to one another in some places and yet there are huge gaps between other ones. I'm looking at the map and see two in Florida which overlap and the next closest one appears to be Washington DC. Why wasn't the second one in Florida placed more equidistant between existing stations? It's frustrating to see these built within 30-50 miles of each other while some of us are 200-300+ miles away from the nearest service and aren't covered by roadside to get to one, nor, perhaps, by Rangers, according to the service contract. I live in Vt. and feel like in some eyes, the Northeast stops at Boston! Any plans to bring service or supercharging this way? Driving to get the car serviced will use a considerable fraction of the 12,500 miles alotted each year. Please, throw us a bone and give us a Supercharger to make the trip! I wanted to keep this positive, but I am very nervous and scared.
Any idea when the Model S Charging Scheduling Timer will be added to our features? We can only save money by charging from midnight-7am weekdays and can't stay up that late to start the charger! My husband's Roadster had it from the beginning, but it's not on the Model S yet.....
I've got 7,400 of those 12 million miles on my Sig S! Loving every single one of them. In lieu of a Supercharger could I get a travel charging cord with a Y adapter that could take power from two 220-50amp plugs? That would speed up my charging at an RV park. That would help a lot of us in less populated areas where Superchargers aren't yet cost effective.
I just want to second what Trekker56 said regarding the Tyson's Corner, VA store.
Hurry with those new superchargers, please.
George, Thanks for the update on what's going on at Tesla Motors. Very exciting times, indeed. We're real excited about superchargers down here in Florida. Having a supercharger in the Naples, FL area would bridge your two largest Florida markets (Miami & the Tampa/Sarasota area). Also looking forward to eventually having superchargers along I-95 (FL to MA).
3 months and 3,500 miles with my Model S, and loving every mile. Thank you.
Great news George regarding the Pacific NW Superchargers. Pretty soon Tesla can say the entire west coast is "S" Country, just think Canada to Mexico and back, no problem!
I know it will never make sence for Tesla to open a store in Rwanda, but I have to get a tesla MS or X at some stage no matter what! The way I will make it happen? I don't know yet :-)
I love my Model S. Have both gas cars up for sale, and gave away my 40 year collection of motor oil, filters, starting fluid, belt dressing, spark plug wrenches, and all the other odds and ends required for internal combustion maintenance.
The future is great Thanks for helping make it happen.
Dear George,
Great news on all fronts. I have missed seeing Tesla in the monthly retail sales report from all of the car companies in the US. The sales race between Ford,Chevrolet and Toyota is important as well as the luxury race between BMW, Mercedes and Lexus. Tesla is leaving the Volt and Leah in the dust. I recommend that Tesla report their March retail sales and YTD sales at the end of March. Great job. Model S #77
Thanks George! Can't wait until Tesla makes landfall in Africa as well-I know there are some complexities there in regards to the inconsistency of electricity compared to the US and Europe, but I hope that one day our fellow enthusiasts overseas can experience the excitement!
Congrats on the sales records! I HOPE you come out with a coupe/supercar soon... There is just nothing exciting on the market at all and having this helps maintain Tesla as a premium brand. I spent all night last night looking for a new sports coup and can't seem to find anything under $150k I want :(
Eye popping work rate at Tesla. You should all be proud. Next time an update on RHD progress would be appreciated thanks George.
We just received our P85 and we love it; we like hearing about the forward mobility and expansion. I live in Chicago and I am excited about the Super Charger(s) coming to Illinois but I am very interested in a Super Charger between Chicago and Indianapolis as I travel there for work every 3 to 4 weeks. There is a beautiful backdrop of wind farms as far as the eye can see along I65 on both sides that I think would be the perfect spot.
This ia great news! I should be receiving my Model S within the week and I am very excited. The addition of the Superchargers in the NW is just a bonus.
After 3800 km, the party continues. Elon and his team have to be congratulated for their efforts to make Model S a reality. Although there have been a few quirky things, the experience overall has been stellar. I can only imagine what has to be going on in the background to make the implementation so smooth.
I have driven or owned most of the high performance vehicles on the planet, and nothing comes close to the Model S. BTW I am not affiliated with Tesla, although it may seem that way after reading this blog.
Smooth delivery, quiet comfort, and phenomenal handling all contribute to an outstanding driving experience. Traffic which was once a dreaded daily event is now a positive experince I look forward to being a part of. Crazy, perhaps, but a fact nonetheless. I have come to understand that the rumble and vibration caused by my 5 series BMW contributed to the negative feelings around the commute. Perhaps on a limbic level humans of the past moved away from rumbling and grwoling in order to live ling enough to evolve. Well that instinct is no longer required. I can tell you that I actually enjoy driving again.
All this talk about range anxiety has to be coming from the media or other car companies or people doing extraordinary things with a vehicle on a daily basis. I drive hundreds of KMs daily and have never reached a point of being anxious or even concerned. Plugging in at night addresses any issues and ensures that my car charged, warm, and ready when I am. I am sure that if I planned to drive to Florida it would take some planning, but I have never done it nor do I expect to. That is what planes are for. For 99.8% of my life, there is more than enough range. Having taken delivery in February, I had initial concerns thanks for the media about the cold sapping the energy, but this turned out to be a non-issue, even withthe seat heaters and cabin heater on. It was snowy, cold, ans nasty out, but I never felt the effects.
I would, however, be the first to sign up - George and Elon please put me on the list - for a power system that could produce say 1000-2000 km which I expect will be a possibility in the near future. That will be the game changer in the auto industry and will be the demise of the gasoline system.
What I find most amazing is the interest the car gets. I believe that the Tesla owners appear more approachable than other performance vehicle owners. This is likely due to the brand and brand makers taking a humble approach. I have been stopped in drive throughs, at car washes, and in parking lots, by people wanting to know more about what the Tesla is. They are amazed at the fact that it is all electric. Most take pictures and some want to get inside. I have had other performance cars that put off a different feel than the Tesla and people have never approached me - so it is not me that is making the difference. I have been circled on the highway and given thumbs up so many times I have lost count. My kids find it humourous that so many people have a positive reaction. Even their friends think it is cool, which increases the wow factor for them.
All of these events prove to me that there is a ground swell of support for Tesla and that the time for the future has come. I look forward to the next level of innovation and will be the first in line for it. It was well worth the 3-year wait.
Thank you Elon for doing what was necessary to make the Tesla dream, yours and that of Nikola, a reality. You have changed the world as we know it and my children are getting a first glimpse of what is to come.
Today I did a testdrive with a Model S here in The Netherlands. I believe mine will be delivered in August 2013. It was a wonderful drive and it was great to use the care in my homeland. Tesla, you did a great job!
Please add SuperCharge stations along i95 from North East to Florida! Want to make the trip from NJ south but only one so far in DC area need a few more every 150-200 miles!!!
Anxiously awaiting the Tysons Corner store opening! I love what Tesla is doing for business and the environment.
Let's make 2013 the best year to date!
I hardly can wait..son summer in Norway!
is tesla battery has water poof and protection
ditto the request for charge scheduling. SoCal Edison gives us a great rate to charge between midnight-6AM, would be great addition to the software. Plus the website already says the feature exists... http://www.teslamotors.com/charging#/basics

Hi guys. I have been a fan of your cars for a while now and have been looking at each model closely. I think i asked this before on another comment but is there any chance of getting one of these over to the UK?
The cars available over here just so plain and boring (like everything else here I guess!)
I don't even know if this is possible!? I see you have places in California though...My wife lives out there for 6 months a year so I may have to go with her next month to see these cars in person! Many thanks,
