Today, in an article about Shai Agassi’s new startup, the New York Times incorrectly reported that the production delay we announced was caused by “battery related issues.” I spoke with John Markoff, the author of the article, and he said he was apologetic for the error and will issue a correction and change the story online. After he reviewed his research for the article, he realized he had incorrectly connected our reported delays to battery problems. The primary cause of our delay has been and continues to be issues with durability and reliability of the transmission, as we have reported before. Read more…

I’m always excited to be setting out from San Francisco to Lake Tahoe. But it’s usually because I’ve packed the ski equipment into the car and I’m looking forward to getting away from work. On Wednesday morning, August 29, I was excited as I’ve ever been to head to Tahoe, but on this occasion, it had everything to do with work.

One week before I joined Tesla Motors as the new Vice President of Marketing, I went to the San Francisco Auto Show to check out the Tesla Motors display and do some research on my new industry. I had to pinch myself, thinking that attending an auto show could be related to my day job. For some reason, attending Insurance industry conferences just wasn’t as interesting.
