Last week we opened our first ever Tesla Store in Los Angeles on Santa Monica Blvd.
The Tesla Roadster is a revolutionary car and our Tesla Stores will be no less revolutionary as an automotive retail experience.
What’s so different? Well, pretty much everything, but here’s the main idea. We want to create welcoming spaces, where our guests feel comfortable and in their element. And we want to create a sense of unity about the whole operation where there’s no wall of separation between the showroom and service.
One of the very first things you’ll notice about our new store is that the service area is side-by-side with the showroom and connected to it in a very open way. Service actually has the bigger window onto Santa Monica Blvd. Electric cars are cleaner around the shop. Less oil, no fumes. We knew our service area would be a showpiece, so we figured: why not put it out front where everyone can see? Plus, it just fits with our feeling that more public transparency is a good thing.
The same is true in a way with the showroom experience. In the traditional car-buying world, the object of the seller is control.
Control of information and control of you, from the minute you get on the lot until you finally pull yourself free. As a manufacturer, our approach will be radically different. We feel it’s our job to build products that you fall in love with. So when you come to the Tesla Store we want to be completely transparent and be as accommodating as possible. We like to think it’s our job to get out of the way and let the car do the talking, then help out wherever we can. In that kind of environment, you have the space to decide for yourself if this is the right car for you.
Look for our next store to open at Stanford in the San Francisco Bay Area this summer.

Congratulations with this very important milestone! Looking forward to your first store in Europe!
Very cool, hopefully history will look to this as the day the electric car began its inevitable takeover.
Looking forward to the bay area store.
Tom,
When , if ever, do you anticipate that you will be selling cars from the showroom rather than taking orders in advance. Do you anticipate that you will be selling Whitestars from the show room or will they also be special order only vehicles as well. Will Roadsters continue to be special order only cars for the near future - meaning a year or two ? and if so do you anticipate the same time frames for the Whitestar ? ie 2-4 years of waiting before you can walk in and buy one and walk out with it.
In the soon future there will be lots of Roadsters getting their electronics and tranmission switched out in the window.
Is there any word out about exacty where the Tesla store in South Florida will be? Miami?
congrats
hope you soon open more of them
Congratulations, Tom. I hope to have the chance to come visit next time I’m on the left coast. I really like the idea of being able to see the service department. Some of the new Harley stores in the area are doing that as well.
Stanford? When did that stretch of El Camino secede? It’ll always be Menlo Park to me.
Although Tesla currently sells an electric only vehicle, when the future vehicles roll out and they have a range extender, I would imagine that the service area will begin getting to look a little more like other vehicle repair shops. I’m not sure that would bode well for having the service area qute so open.
Congratulations, the place looks awesome!! I do have a few questions, though.
I know you expect the service area to be fairly clean, and as such it allows you to have “no wall of separation” between it and the showroom. But can’t it still get rather loud, say from the occasional dropped wrench, or from pneumatic tools, etc.. Don’t you want at least a glass barrier? I suppose, however, you guys have plenty of experience from noise level at the San Carlos shop.
How do you plan to deal with the oil mess and fumes that will come from the ICE range extender in the REEV version of the Whitestar?
With regard to the Menlo Park store, will it be more difficult to connect the showroom with the service area given that the existing structure is from a traditional dealership?
And finally, will I be able to come visit the Menlo Park store when it’s finally open??
Thanks!!
Again if anyone’s interested to see some shots of the Menlo Park location including some old aerial photos you can go here and keep scrolling down:
www.teslamotorsclub.com/tesla-motors/644-menlo-park-sales-service-center.html#post7735
Rick,
The land (like much of it around the campus) is owned by Stanford University. Though, perhaps Tom meant to say “near Stanford” rather than “at” it.
Actually, the Stanford land issue suggests another question:
How long will a Tesla store stay at that Menlo Park location (since Stanford plans to eventually redevelop that entire strip of land from the Stanford Park Hotel to the Menlo Station shopping center)?
Just wanted to say congrats of the store opening and expanded venture in Europe. Just saw the piece on history channel about Nikola Tesla , was very skeptical how history channel would characterize him , but was satisfied seeing they took a lot of info from the biography Wizard . Was very pleased especially that they showed the Tesla Roadster at the end of the program . Just wish they had done this sooner and i think this program should be shown in schools all over the country. Maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel for our future and changing peoples perspective of the world today to help prevent anymore of our human follies in control of energy resources . I supect as the result of the tesla roadster , the establishment had to eventually let the cat out of the bag as to where the things we take for granted came from .. Thanks so much for what you guys are trying to do and may your journey continue .. LONG LIVE TESLA
Great news! Congratulations to this milestone. We actively follow the development of your cars on our Green Car Network.
Hope an affordable car (Whitestar) will be in the showrooms soon.
I hope there are plans for a service center in the Washington DC area!
Neat interior design.
Kinda looks more like a bar than a car store
Tom,
You said “we want to be completely transparent and be as accommodating as possible”. So how about answering our questions on this blog ?!?!?! Is that not included in being transparent ?!?!?! If the posters of these blogs can’t answer certain questions then an answer should be given that “I can’t answer that at this time” but to simply ignore us is far from transparent and doing everything possible to accomodate us. Hopefully more responses will be made in the future. ” I don’t know” or “I cant answer that” are acceptable answers but still should be given.
Cool new store! I’ll take a grande americano with an extra shot, please.
When is Chicago coming?
Rumor now has it that 5 Roadsters have been delivered to their owners. Can TM confirm this statement was in fact made by Darryl Siry. I do not want anything to be misquoted Darryl and I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt to respond yourself. Hopefully a response will be forth coming
Thomas J.,
TM has said in the past that there are plans for a Washington DC store - and relatively soon - but they have not indicated a time frame for that. I too am in the DC area so I am looking forward to it ASAP
So when are you going to tell us about your capital raising efforts? The press release concerning Larry W. Sonsini suggests that you are planning an IPO. How about making us the second to know (after customers who put down a deposit). I assume that you are seeking funds to continue work on the white star? Having shareholders that really believe in your mission as most of the readers here do, would be an asset to your company.
Mark,
I have to agree with you it seems that TM is putting its fans here from the blogs on the very back burner if not completely out of the kitchen. I totally understand that the OWNERS should know first but I think they could at least try to post things here at the same time as the press releases. Seems this is the LAST place I get information. So it will be interesting to see if anything starts to change on these blogs or whether we just pass them up and move on to better sources of information.
Kevin -
I’m not sure where the quote was from but i recently told a crowd of folks that the 5th car is on the line. We are about to do a program update to customers that points that out and mentions that #6 and 7 are getting started as well. The update will be posted on this blog immediately after it is sent to customers.
There is no intention to keep the folks on the blog in the dark - it is just a matter of resources. Of course we try to keep customers first, but with things the way they are with the interweb these days we post things right after they are sent to customers. I will soon hire a resource to “mind the store” more frequently on this and other blogs and keep our website more up to date, but right now it is very hard to spend the time with everything else going on.
Still, this blog is not a Q&A forum so please don’t expect that any question posted here will receive a response. We will do the best we can to answer questions and address issues.
One thing you might want to do is subscribe to the RSS feed from the twitter account “teslamotors”. We post things there as well occasionally.
Darryl
From all accounts, Tesla stores will be selling BEVs exclusively for at least the next two or three years. That’s more than enough time to build brand awareness and the excitement of potential customers via the present store “model.” In the run-up to introduction for any vehicle equipped with range-extender, there will be plenty of time to either retrofit the service areas of the existing Tesla Stores, or to move to different locations that feature completely redesigned and re-situated service areas. Frankly, I am hoping that advances in energy storage technology will arrive in time to head off any substantial push into range-extenders. I can understand that Tesla may feel as if RE is a necessary tactic for the near-term future, given the current state of technology and the current bias of the marketplace. But we seem to be at an interesting cusp: many things can change in the next couple of years. Good for Tesla for keeping not only their minds but also their options open. But even better if their cars won’t actually have to depend on REs for very long, if ever.
Has anybody heard anything about EEStor, lately? It would be great if they would finally start delivering this year. But if they don’t, or even if they or another company NEVER delivers appropriate ultracapacitors, advances we have read about and discussed on these blogs recently promise to lower cost and increase capacity and longevity of batteries, perhaps as soon as in the next several years. (It only took Toshiba two years to bring their SuperCharge LiIon batteries to market, for instance, and they are already working on capacity improvements that will make the SuperCharge line more suitable for automotive use.)
Will you guys be serving rum cream? You can talk me into pretty much anything if you keep the rum creams coming!
Darryl,
Thanks for the post back. It REALLY is appreciated when you can get back to us and simply talk to us. I know that your schedule must be EXTREMELY hectic right now with tons of stuff going on. I think that hiring a person to attend to the blogs is a GREAT idea. I am hoping that the blogs might begin to turn more to a Q & A thing as production ramps up. Hopefully with an additional employee that might happen. Seems to follow the pattern of moving from development to actual sales. Program update was FANTASTIC !!!!! Posting more here after it is sent to the OWNERS is a WONDERFUL idea. In this day and age of the internet we seem to demand more and more instantaneous answers and I am sure that it can be very time consuming and overwhelming but it is GREATLY appreciated.
It’s been great to see the dialogue shift. What was once a debate about whether cars could even be made that are not only good for the planet, but great rides and nice to look, is now a discussion about the performance and features on the latest REAL vehicle meeting the challenge - thanks for being a big part of that shift Tesla .
Here’s a good team POV (covers the event, the car, the progress and even the “magic”…) of the Los Angeles Tesla Showroom opening - www.velvetron.com/blog/?x=0&y=0&s=tesla
James: “Frankly, I am hoping that advances in energy storage technology will arrive in time to head off any substantial push into range-extenders.” Hear, hear! Range extenders are a whole ‘nother layer of technology, service requirements, etc., and amount to a buy-back into the gasoline world.
Kevin;
You really have to mind the store. And, contrary to Darryl’s assertion that these are not Q&A blogs, that’s basically what’s required for 2-way communication. By definition. It can’t be shirked. (Although certain types of paranoid conspiracy-theory “challenges” are best ignored or deep-sixed; you can’t possibly satisfy the congenitally suspicious mind.)
I think Tesla didn’t quite “get” what blogging is like when it started these. Corporate blogs are touted as a way to get feedback and raise customer involvement, but it’s not done well if it’s not done well.
Congratulations and thanks for the pics. You WOULD have to show a Glacier Blue. If there’s one incarnation of the Tesla that will convince me to overextend my budget, that’s the one!
This is exactly what the world needs. As we pay so much in increasing foreign oil prices its time we make a stand and put the oil companies down. i support Tesla 1005 and plan on buying one as soon as i get the money to. thanks for everything you guys have done.
Quick suggestion: Put a tunnel or tube on the front of the car. In that shaft put a fan. As the car drives down the road the fans create wind energy and produce more energy on its own, resulting in less charges. Its just a suggestion.
Peter,
Good suggestion but that has been talked about here millions of times !!
Long and the short is that the drag of the fan creates more energy loss than the fan actually creates.
RE: Blog Management - TM should post more often, and be more responsive. I’ve been reading your blog(s) since day one, and you can do better. Obviously, you can’t dialog with 5,000 people at once, but you can touch on recurring questions directly and quickly. Post more often!
RE: New Store - congrats. I like the store concept, but I’m a gearhead. Do most people want that? I doubt it. Maybe a nice glass wall between service and sales. You will intimidate people who are insecure in a shop environment, who have never taken anything apart, etc. You want your buyers to feel like they are leading edge environmental heros, and if you make them insecure you fail in that regard. For now, with a $100k car, it may not matter much, but when you start selling Whitestars it will be more of an issue.
RE Whitestar - Blog that, all y’all. What the dickens is going on with Whitestar??????
I found this to be a fun article with lots of cool pictures of the LA store:
www.autobloggreen.com/2008/05/11/autobloggreen-pays-a-visit-to-the-new-tesla-motors-store/
I own a plot of land in downtown fort Lauderdale and represent several affluent buyers. How can we get a dealership located here? Who is the contact how much is the start-up costs?
The address of the new showroom is 11161 Santa Monica Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90025, USA which Google Street View shows as formerly housing Busy Body Home Fitness. The repair bays are located in 11159 Santa Monica Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90025, USA which, again, Google Street View shows as formerly occupied by Kidz 2000. I’m not sure whether or not the store moved into Starbuck’s space or not - the picture doesn’t show. Apple seems to have kept the billboard though!
Thanks for all the comments and questions. We’re so busy this is actually the first time I’ve had to read them. One repeated question was about the “wall of separation”. There actually is a wall of glass separating the showroom and service for the reasons mentioned. The statement is more about the experience. The traditional dealership is very much a two-worlds, two-teams kind of place. There are plenty of reasons why we want to have a one-team store, not the least of which is that sometimes people feel more comfortable about purchasing a car when they can talk to a technician upfront about the technology.
Congratulations Tesla Motors. It’s fine with me if you take the time to roll out your products slowly enough that you do it right and stay in business; but, I’m dying to try one of these cars even though there’s less sun here in the northeast. I love the new showroom concept. I believe American consumers are hopeful and curious about the energy paradigm shift, and a glass wall is a chance to invite people to “see the change” so to speak.
To Scott Ownbey,
Tesla intends to own all of their stores, so the only way I see to profit here is to sell or lease them the land. Elon posted a blog a while back about his vision on what the stores would be like. I can’t find the link right now, but look through the archives and you will find more info.
Editor: Here is the link to the blog that Mark is referring to: www.teslamotors.com/blog3/?p=58
After reading this blog a tear fell out of my one eye like that lone Indian looking over the field of garbage. I have to say, Bravo. You leaders at Tesla are fulfilling my dream and keeping the Dream Of Tesla Himself Alive. I say - A Solar Panel On every roof, A wind generator in every yard, and a Tesla Roadster In Ever Garage. And this first store is the first step to making it happen.
Keep up the good work, make Tesla Proud.
Sun Wind Water… How DO You DO? Nice to put Nature to WORK for the People of this World. Thank You Nikola for keeping THE Dream Alive.
Congratulations!
Some constructive criticism ….. The store needs more plants and greenery
Will Tesla Motors install solar panels to power their dealerships and offer clean EV recharging?
is tesla considering a modest priced commuter car?
michael, That question gets asked (and answered) more times than any other. Their commuter car is code named Bluestar. But don’t hold your breath, its about 5 years away. See www.teslamotors.com/blog2/?p=8 Battery technology has to get a LOT cheaper before it is pratical in a low priced car (with decent range). But this will happen.
Congrats,, when will Tesla have a affordable electric car? Love your car but could never afford it. Keep up the good work and bring us yuppies a affordable model.
Do you have plans of developing more mainstream vehicles or are there any plans to license your technology to a mass producer?
I have fallen in love with your TESLA for over a year, except your market is for the upper 5%. I consider we are in the Upper-Middle Range and could afford a model in the $40 to $60k range. Any plans on a scaled down version (Rx7) variety?
Is the store LEED Certified?

======
Nope. They’re gonna lay down rooftop topsoil and grow sawgrass and kumquats.
Would like to know what it would cost to be a dealer of your cars? Located in Watertown SD! THANKS GENE!!!
What is the location of the show room in Los Angeles? Does it have address?
I am very excited about your product and hope to be a customer. I was Just wondering if you had considered using Lithium Nano-Phosphate technology in youtr battery packs - specicfically the battery chemistry developed by A123 systems. I learned about this type of battery trough my hobby (racing radio control cars) and thought that it could be useful in your application.
For all of those looking for an electric car about half the price check out the Program Update blog entry here. Recent posts are of a new conversion in that range that looks promising on paper. Hopefully it will be able to live up to its claims. AMP Motors converts a Saturn Sky.
AK,
Store address is: 11163 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90025
how to get an agent agreements ????
i just wanna have the exclusive right to market the TELSA in africa and indian ocean …….
wstuart: I know there is a blog where the Lithium Nano-Phosphate batteries are specifically discussed, but can’t remember which one. There is this one on batteries www.teslamotors.com/blog2/?p=39#more-39 . The Lithium-ion batteries have a higher power-to-weight ratio than A123 or Altairnano, and they cost a LOT less.
Hello Tom,
At what point do you see Tesla making vehicles that will be able to compete with Toyota and Honda in regards to price.
The peasants would like to drive a cleaner vehicle too.
I am building a home in Santa Monica and the owner wants me to prep the elctrical for a Tesla . What are the elctrical requirements ? I understand a 220 plug is required , but what is the amperage needed ?

Tom OLeary:
Congratulations! It is a fantastic accomplishment to bring a new vehicle from the drawing board to the showroom.
Sincerely,
Mark Shapiro
Such a shame that it’s nothing more than another toy for rich people instead of an affordable production vehicle for the standard economic classes.
John R. - I think they require between 70 and 80 amps for a 3.5 hour total refill. I’m glad I live in Denmark - our normal voltage is 230 and powerplugs are 3phase 400V 16 amps.
Please, please, please…hurry up with your whitestar and open a service area in Houston (4th largest city - I think we need one)
John R;
70 is good, 400 is better.
The battery circuitry will accept any feed level, so load it up!
John R.: The charging system is designed for 240 volt 70 amp service, but can work with lower amperages and lower voltages when necessary - it would just take longer to charge.
I’m not sure if the charger is wired with cord & plug, or hardwired to a junction box. Either way, you could run the proper gage wire to an outlet box in the garage, then later wire in an outlet or conduit wiring as needed.
Love to buy one NOW…open sales in Canada ASAP
Looks like someone in Europe cannot wait till the official release.

When can I purchase a dealership in the heart of Oil country aka Houston, Texas.
I am EXTREMELY pleased to see an all electric car manufacturer up and running. I am a Mechanical Engineering student and am very excited about this car. Good work. I can’t wait to see the Tesla in Utah.
hey guys,
still impressed about your car and your management…
But when do you plan to come to europe? There is so much desire for new energy systems especially with cars.
I am really looking forward to see you in good old Europe.

Wonderful that you finally have a retail store. Another nice thing would be to tell us the address.
No problem and yes, we should have probably included in the blog post
. The address is 11163 Santa Monica Blvd.,West Los Angeles, CA 90025. This address along with the addresses of all other Tesla locations may be found on our Contact Us Page. -Editor
Amazing car! and technology! When will you create a car that someone (me) can afford on a teacher’s salary? I am interested in an electric car that can drive on the freeway (60mph) with travel of at least 40 miles before needing a charge, and affordable say, $20,000? There’s a market out there, like me, just waiting. I love your car
The TESLA is truly, truly a remarkable beginning! The time is now! Tesla has risen to the occasion and I am personally excited to be able to witness this astounding success. I am confident that the company will continue its course and that the Tesla will become a household word. “How full is the tank?” will be replaced with “Did you plug in the car?” and “How many hours do we have left?”
My question is: Can a TESLA accommodate a longer legged variety of humans?
You should also build a store in each of the major regions of the US. My nominee for the heartland is Tulsa, OK. we have 2 refineries in town, but gas prices are ridiculous (as im sure they are everywhere).
cuando van a sacar coches mas baratos???
I’m building a house in Santa Monica ,California and would like to install the proper Plug and circuitry for the Tesla Sports car. I can’t find any info on your web sites. I Know the Plug in requires 220 volts ,but what is the amperage? Do you need this amperage if you use your Power converter kit ?
Thank You ,

I’m sorry I didn’t see the other comments . Thank you CM .I’m building several homes in West L.A. and the electronics are a major part of the
the high end homes . One Touch screen Unit can control lights , sound ,HVAC , music , TVs , Solar systems and in this case a car charger .
Thanks Again,

I see an incredable future. How does one invest now before the public see the true value?
Is there a Stock symbol to see and /or invest now?
I am presently in Los Angeles for work at staying at the Century Plaza Hyatt just a couple of miles down the road from the Tesla store. What are the hours for the store? I’d love to stop by and visit either Wednesday or Thursday.
Have you guy’s thought about the idea of using some of the same enginering that the hybrit car’s are now using in order to increase the life and the range of the batery? By aplying the breaks and creating heat and friction, could not this energy form be convirted into an elictrical charge that would help to charge the batery and thus give the car an even grearer range? How is it that you have the greatest car ever made, a car that is the right car at the right time and yet almost everyone on the planet still does not know that it exist? Your product truly needs some serious advertising. I listen to talk raido and they never mention the fact that there is, right now a car that can do what your car can do. If your product was more known about espectially in the media then the common man would have real hope that one day the average driver won’t care how much a gallon of gas cost. I have been telling everyone that I know about your super car and giving out your website. One day I will own one of your cars. Keep up the great work. Thank you Bill Holr
Hey
Interested in a car. Would like ot know if there has been any difficulty with the motor or anything else with the roadster?
I love Tesla. It is the best car company in the history of car companies. You guys rock.
William Holt: The Tesla Roadster uses the motor as a generator for regenerative braking, using the magic of electromagnetic induction to convert momentum back into electricity while slowing the car. It is old fashioned hydraulic brakes that create friction and heat, and that simply wastes the energy of momemtum. Friction and heat are to be avoided, except when making a quick emergency stop!
Well designed hybrids and EVs also use electromagnetic induction for regenerative braking, reserving energy wasting friction brakes for emergencies and very low speeds only.
I’VE BEEN THINKING SERIOUSLY ABOUT A TESLA. ANY CHANCE OF FLYING OUT TO THE STORE FOR A TEST DRIVE. I WOULD NEED TO TAKE THE CAR IN BUFFALO NY. ANY PLANS FOR A SEDAN OR 4 SEAT SPORTS CAR?
WOW! Admirable design! Commendable company ethos! And very forward-looking business model. I like the strategy to start with the highest slice of the market and use that to fund the cars for us little guys. Can’t wait until your model prices drop - or my income raises - enough to buy one of these fantastic vehicles!
These cars look excellent and would probably do very well in the capitol region. Maryland (around largest highways I83, 95, 70, 270, US. 50, 40, 29, etc.) and more commonly on the 2 beltways is one of the worst places in the country for congestion, or traffic jams. Traffic is obviously terrible for the economy & IS YET IN OUR CONTROL, unlike fuel prices. Although I live in Baltimore (Charm City), I bet customers would go to a new store there from all over Virginia, parts of PA. and maybe the Phila/ Jersey metro area. Unfortunately, Southern Pa. From the Appalacian mountains to Lancaster county has almost no public transportation, I know from experience. So, my concern is how much space and how many people can fit inside for the purpose of carpooling or going on trips? Other than that, I find nothing else wrong with it. I guess the future of travel is here now! This is great.
…Seriously; you guys deserve no less than 4 or 5 Nobel prizes if you can succeed in making this beautiful reality survive and change our world. I can think of no other REAL WORLD socio-economic advancement that would change our world SO much, and so instananeously. Think of it…no more trucking gasoline all over the place, no more gas stations at every corner, no more rip-off mechanic shops, no more lethal exhaust being pumped out sans filtration, far fewer giant tankers crossing the oceans, less money/resources thrown away on costly & oft destructive oil exploration. Perhaps soon, we will see petroleum used only for large equipment/vehicles and plastics etc…
…In a world of talk, deceit, money-oriented policies and destructive market & legislative manipulation……..YOU guys are serious heroes to humanity….And humanity and the animals alike will silently love you for a long time to come for your efforts. Stay strong Tesla =)
When are you going to ta\ke this technology and put it into something us working stiffs can afford? I don’t mean to rain on the parade, because I think this company is awesome, but for these cars to really make a difference we need a $20-30k variety that more of us could drive to work every day.
Keep it up and best of luck.
Congratulations. What is your plans for east coast expansion? What will be the cost to replace batteries?
Congratulations! I live in Huntington Beach California, so I may shoot up to visit you. I only learned about your car in the past couple of weeks on KABC radio. A guest was talking about your cars and how they work. Your cars are awesome! I would love to have one and will buy one eventually. I am moving to Atlanta in about 4 months and with the traffic out there I could really use a Tesla. You guys have done a great job and deserve all kinds of awards and I am sure that you all know that with what is going on with fuel prices that all of you are going to be extremely wealthy people in the not too distant future (step aside Trump) . My hats off to you.
Congratulations! . You guys should open a factory in Europe. Especially Germany seems to like giving subsidies to automakers and new antipollution technology
I guess I will deciede when I see ONE on the road…talk is cheap……action action action…..
The car is very nice looking. Wonder if a 6′2″ person could fit comfortably in it. The 3. 9 response is great. Maybe the big three will learn something from your design. The price tag is still steep for the limited range.
I was an electrician for several years. The electrical receptacle appears to be a sixty amp nema outlet. Not alot of those floating around. I work for a green company. Several million already spent in geen building design. If the car was readily available the company would install the outlets. Price will limit who buys, but you already know that. 40k tag more realalistic. Hope the car doesn’t become like DeLorean. Also think the emblem is to close to Porche. Copyright infringement. I guess you have already thought of that. I love the name. Nice tribute to a great man.
Regardless of the negative coments above, I think the vehicle is beautiful. I hope to see car continue to blossom.
Thanks,
Sam
I love this car and looking forward for limousine with stronger batteries and shorter recharging time. Well I would like to become first to sell these amazing cars in Europe(Slovakia) I am just fascinated by tesla roadster and sure that this is car of future nowdays.
I’ve heard that the Tesla will cost €99,000 in Europe (approx US$158,000), while it costs only $109,000 in the USA. Does it really cost an additional US$49,000 just to export the car to Europe? Please just build and sell them here in Blighty (yes I’m talking wish-fulfillment here). Please save the Brits from being hostage to Johnny Foreigner’s Oil! Prices here are already £1.20/Litre for unleaded (approx $5.46/gallon) and £1.30/Litre for diesel (approx $5.90/gallon)!
ya wish you all the best for your creation you win the world level no: 1 company
First of All i want to congrulate creator of Tesla. This car is magnificent!!İ am living in Turkey.İf i have chance i want to sell this car in istanbul. This car will changed what ever we know about sport cars…can i have chance to sell this car istanbul or what can i do to sell this car in turkey/istanbul.thank you!
Have you considered installing a PV array on the roof to recharge the cars? It could look good too if it was exposed, or they could be mounted flat on the roof.
I would just like to say thanks to ALL involved in the ongoing creation of Tesla. I am a common young man that loves mechanics, and happens to care about the world. I have understood the capibilities of AC brushless motors powered by LI-ion batteries for many years through my hobby of Remote control cars. It’s very irritating thinking about why we are still using ICE on a mass scale. Thanks for the hope.
Please don’t let human tendencies hurt this company any more. Focus on the car, and make it the best you can. The rest will work it self out. People will buy it regardless. The world is waiting! Thanks again.

What about lookie loos (like me)? I’m curious about the building and your offices. All green? And where’s the mommy mobile? Even BMW gives me a station wagon, gimme a car with a backseat and I’ll be the hawtest green mommy LA has…
On saturday I was lucky enough to get to test drive the new Tesla in Menlo Park. I own a Noble M12 and love it but I fell in love with the Tesla. It was great to drive. It handled very good and the acceleration was very impressive! It just took a little while to get use to the lack of engine noise so I had to keep driving it around a few more miles.
I am looking forward to taking delivery on my very own next year! Tesla Motors.. Great job!
Congratulations in regards to Mazda and the LA Store I cant wait to go. Looking forward for your company becoming public so I can be a shareholder. Exotic Electric Cars are definately the future, and you make you cars look so dam sexxxxxyyyyyy!
When i was 13 years old in 1963, i dreamed of cars that are sporty, beautiful, fast, quiet, orderless , easy to park ,made in the United States and you just plug into a electrical outlet. Thank you for making the dream come true!!
What a car! Dreams DO come true! I remember my dad talking about Tesla and his electrical wonders. I really think y’all should open a Texas dealership. As revolutionary as it appears, there’d be no problem selling it here! Viva Tesla!
Hi Tom
It is great news to see you getting physical. Electric cars are wonderful things and you guys seem to understand their beauty quite well. They really are clean. House trained. You could keep them in your living room. We have been producing and distributing the TWIKE ev in the 90ties over here in Switzerland in a similar structure as you are building up now. We had so called centers of competence in several cities where shop, showroom and final assembly was undevided under one roof. That really helped keeping cost low and motivation and quality high and we put out as much as 250 Vehicles in 1998 and 1999.
I love seeing you going the right track with the TESLA. Thumbs up!
Martin
Is the Tesla Motors names after the famous Nikola Tesla, the father of AC current? I am friends of a relative of his (lived in Niagra Falls Canada growing up) and we were discussing the company and inovative car. Nikola was very inovative and I have always been impressed wtih his futuristic ideas.
Well done!! I wish you success.

I recently read in an LA Business publication that Tesla Motors announced plans to begin production in southern California. One detail that I can not remember or track down at the moment is if this was going to happen at an existing Boeing facility or it it is to be a newly constructed building. What do you know about this?
