Is it practical for the public such massive acceleration?

Hello, I wanted to do the following reflection, it is certainly very funny that the Tesla (S model in this case) reached 100 km / hr in 5.6 seconds, but thinking it is a vehicle for public "mass" that instantaneous power think there will be a source of many accidents (because people will lead the most diverse psychomotor skill), as when parking or maneuvering in tight spaces, at least until the owner gets used, time can be very late . So far they have had customers who like to drive sports cars and surely they already have much experience driving fast vehicles, which may have minimized the number of accidents reported. I do not know, maybe we could put some kind of function to choose the type of riding type "economy, normal and sport. " or else that could help save battery power??:)

This car will accelerate fast. It's a sporty car like many others in that pricerange and many cheaper ones. So I don't really see the problem with it.

Of corse fast accelerating cars might lead people to drive faster as it's so much fun. But parking? I really can't imagin that it will be more difficult to navigate slowely as in any other car.

If I remember right there are difference mode you can drive, and charge your car in the roadster. But I don't think they will cut down the power as much that you feel like in a prius :)

I've driven the Roadster Sport and I've found it very easy to maneuver the car at low speeds. I can not imagine anyone having trouble handling the car parking who can park a car with an automatic gearbox.

I don't see any reason why this should be different with the Model S.

There are plenty of comparative vehicles (in performance) to the S car right now (BMW's / Audi's / Lexus / MB's / etc.)...it isn't a problem for the operators of these vehicles, so why would it be a problem for S Car owners...remember, the S Car is being marketed to the upscale ICE car owners, not the entry level ICE car owner...imo, it is doubtful that many newly licensed, inexperienced drivers will be acquiring an S Car (due to the cost).

I was driving some sports cars and not without some embarrassment I must admit that at first took me to get used to the sensitivity of the accelerator and several times I had to literally grab the wheel when starting ...
And I had to take my brand new vehicle to be repaired by blows to the bumper. This car delivers 100% torque from the start!, Which does not happen with the internal combustion cars. But it seems that a well-tuned speeds is a good solution. On the other hand it is true that for now the car is expensive, but surely is the technology that comes in the case and before we think will be within the purchasing power of many people. Of course, as now, there will be models for all budgets. I find it interesting the opinion of Ad van der Meer, because if you've driven and it seems appropriate, is a good field test!

I can only advise you to get a test drive yourself (if you have a sales representative near by).

The Roadster is a cruiser if you want to or a beast at any RPM, but it's very easy to control

0-100 km/hr in 5.6 seconds is fast, but not obscenely fast. It is in the same range as the 10 year old "pony cars"; Mustang, Firebird, Camaro.
From a safety perspective, you want faster acceleration- you don't want someone with slow acceleration to pull in front of you onto a major highway when you are going 100 km/hr and up and it takes them 10 or 15 seconds to get up to speed- you are going to slam into them or slam on your brakes.

Also it makes passing slower cars safer: the less time you spend in opposite lane the better. Thing is that Model S probably has a lot better acceleration at 80-120kph than those pony cars you mentioned. It has nearly same torque *at the wheels* at that point as it had at zero kph.

Roadster is more spicy, but relatively non-dramatic compared to low-gear high-power ICE-cars at low speeds.

When considering acceleration keep in mind that "stop light to stop light "acceleration isn’t the only use for such a feature. Think Highway passing. Although it’s easy to see how it can be misused in city driving, the self responsibility does not differ with any vehicle of higher power. Use less peddle, save more power/gas. But by reducing or limiting vehicles acceleration you r also limiting your ability to pass vehicles at higher speeds thus also increasing the possibility of an accident. It boils down to personal responsibility. Having the power and the option to use it is better than not having the option at all.
