Model S against Dodge Charger Hemi R/T

Driving down the interstate in Charleston I see in my rear view mirror a Dodge Charger Hemi R/T. I slow down a bit as I want him to catch up to me. He pulls along side and I give my accelerator peddle a little tap just to see if he is interested. As I hear him engage his huge ICE I push my accelerator peddle all the way to the floor. 55-100 in what seems like 1/2 of a second. I see him again in my rearview mirror. I slow down to let him catch up again and he pulls along side of me gives me a thumbs up and proceeds to take a picture of the car. I am 40 and he had to be in his mid 20's. Kind of funny that my Model S can basically blow the doors off of anyone with nothing but the sound of wind. The model S is just ridiculously fast from 55-100. Cant describe the feeling. just an amazing car. Feel lucky to own one. HeHe

Last night went up against an Audi R8 took him off the line....he was shocked. Rolled down windows at the next light...his words..."impressive"

jonathanwu99, that is a great combination! I also have a GT-R, but my model S is performance. I am also waiting for Tesla super car.

Nice @ beating an R8 - he probably had the 4.2, not the V10 5.2 (which supposedly is 3.7-3.9 0-60) or the GT (3.4).

arch;
The relevant speeds were 55-100.

A point in Tesla's favor is that not many ICE owners will take the trouble to use launch control or side step the clutch at high RPM which is generally required to get close to the lowest 0 -60 time. Also that stuff doesn't help fom 55-100. At that speed the MS is gone before the ICE can get in the right gear.

@jfeldman72: Sir, thank you for the great story. I really enjoyed it. Its a hoot. Please go race some more and bring us those stories while we wait for our "S".

Yes - my S is downright scary fast. Especially after 40mph. If you really want to see speed, check out the EV dragsters. White Zombie does 0-60 in well under 2 sec. Some dude in LA just made a BMW EV that can do about 2 sec. (NPR story). His car is capable of 1MW of power - that's right - mega with an M! I know the guy who custom made the DC motors for this car. In no time these dragsters will do 1/4 mile in 7 sec. They're not too far away.

I had a film crew in my S last weekend and showed them a few moves. They soiled themselves.

From NEDRA record holders:

"Rocket" 6.940s@201.37mph

Already done. That's a bike, not a car though.

"Current Eliminator V" Dragster gets 7.956s@159.85mph, but IMO that's kinda old tech using altairnano batteries, lets see when there are serious attempt to beat that.

@jonathanwu99 "I frequently drive over 125", I would love to see that freeway! For me it's like "Sammy Hagar - I Can't Drive 55", OK 70!

jfeldman, feel the need for speed. Can't wait til I mine comes in. Good to meet you last night.

Dave.W.Finn....cant wait to see yours! We need to get the message out. This is the future!

Watch a Perf. with 21" wheels smoke this Dodge Viper SRT 10 in ¼ mile.

The Perf also picks on a poor Volt on that page, too.

That Model S driver had really poor reaction time, over one second, feels like two. Volt driver reacts faster, but car looks like a slug next to rocket.

Real drag driver would have got more like 11.3s than 12.3s time. I can slowly count to three after light turns green and before the car moves. If that time does count the driver reaction to that time (as it should if it is official NEDRA time) then expect to see even better times really soon.

Um, I'm wrong, in time runs reaction time doesn't count. That explains why those times were so consistent.

heh, reaction time doesn't count, the Tesla driver was waiting for Volt to go first....

Instead of showing the Star Trek view on the screen when flooring it I think I'd prefer the Space Balls ludicrous speed view with it going plaid.
