NHTSA investigation

What is the word on the NHTSA fire investigation? I've heard rumors of a decision being made in January.
Anybody have any ideas?

Don't know, but just learned that GM is recalling 303,000 trucks due to fires. Apparently there is a "software issue that causes exhaust components to over heat and cause engine fires". There have been 8 fires thus far.

The only reason that there is speculation that the investigation will be complete this month is the fact that Elon said that we would get more control of our active air suspension systems in January.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has reaffirmed the 5-star safety rating of the Tesla Model S overall and in all subcategories for Model Year 2014, confirming the highest safety rating in America.

While Tesla is awaiting feedback from NHTSA regarding their investigation of recent fire incidents, the German Federal Motor Transport Authority, Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA), recently concluded its review of the incidents, finding no manufacturer-related defects or need for further action.

It is worth noting that a Tesla vehicle is over five times less likely to experience a fire than the average gasoline car and that there have been zero serious injuries or deaths for any reason ever, fire or otherwise, in a Model S.

Over the course of more than 100 million miles driven in almost every possible terrain, weather and crash conditions, the Tesla Model S has consistently protected its driver and passengers, achieving the best safety track record of any car on the road.

When Elon gets involved with minor issues like an electric plug or whether a recall is a recall, it becomes a major issue. I am beginning to wish Elon would quit making mountains out of mole hills.
Do you hear me Elon?
thanks!

A tesla shareholder since 2012.

100 or 200 million miles on the road is Nothing. Its great Tesla has a great safe car, but maybe we should wait to tout the safety until Tesla has 50 or 100 Billion miles under its belt? I would remind Mr. Musk that here in the US, if we hear you say the car is safe 1 time, we believe you. IF you say its safe 10 times, we don't believe you.

Now, obviously the car is safe. Please Tesla let the car speak for itself. Don't hurry so much!

I'm sure that you can realize the necessity of having to reaffirm the integrity of your product when you constantly have naysayers and haters lambasting it at every opportunity that presents itself, albeit even if they have to manufacture it!

And that is exactly what one must deal with when they find themselves confronted with a bunch of vitriol, obfuscation, and misplaced, ill-contrived deceptions...Address each and every one of them with factual evidence that serves to countermand each and every claim by both exposing them for the falsities that they are, and simultaneously allay any fears and dispel any doubts for both existing and potential future clientele.

That is how one need maintain the virtue and incorruptibility of their product.

It is this sort of "dirty pool" that antagonists all too often employ that prompts one to engage in a bit of housekeeping if for no other reason than the knowledge that, if left alone to its' own devices, wholly specious rumors have a tendency to fester and, over time, prove ruinous for their intended target.
