Model S "Chassis in White" in Santana Row!

Great news! I was driving by the Santana Row (San Jose, CA) store this morning for my Peets Coffee stop - and there were 2 Tesla trailers and about 15 Tesla employees swarming around the latest product install in the little showroom.

Right behind a new Red Roadster they were laboring over the exact, detailed placement of a raw aluminum Model S Chassis! The Tesla rep I chatted with said it was the one that was shown at the Detroit Auto Show. She said that since they get "thousands" of walk-ins in Santana Row, versus "hundreds" in the Menlo Park facility, they thought they would put it on display here.

Needless to say - the car is really striking! And the battery pack is HUGE! Only 4-5" thick, but that's one big holder of laptop batteries!

If you live local to the Bay Area, get down there to see it - and that will get you ready for the October 1 event!

Only 4-5" thick...

That's where all the ground clearance went...

The store rep I spoke with last week said they would be bringing the Model S to the showroom in pieces; starting with the chassis and adding more to the car every few weeks.

I'll be sure to stop by the Santana Row store the Friday before Oct. 1st. It will give me something to do while waiting for the evening Event on 10/1. Thanks for the info.

Damn ... all the cool stuff seems to be happening in NoCal. I know many reservation holders are located in the Bay area and its surrounds, but I really do hope that Tesla will send some cool Model S stuff East sometime in the next, say, 3 or 4 months.

Someone who visits the Santana Row store, pls. take a pic and post it. Thx.

How far along are they? I'm in Sacramento right now.

Hi,

I'm not sure if this will work, but I'm going to attempt to post an image of the chassis.

Not sure what the heck the store rep was talking about - obviously talking out of their butts, but...hey, this is all there is for this display. It is a single body. And a very early one at that...

They aren't making a Lego toy out of it - it is what it is!

Agreed. Went by the store this morning. This is the expanded chassis demo seen at previous car shows. Asked about the idea of bringing the S to the store in pieces and was told that idea got scrapped.
