Service Plans

My Model S is expected in the next couples or so I have been told, but in the meantime there seems to be a push to sell the service agreements. Does anyone know the cost of servicing the car without them? I usually do not buy these as I find them just another way for a company to get cash up front. Any information would be appreciated.

Annual inspection and maintenance is pretty much required to keep your car in good condition. If you have a problem that could have been avoided by the annual inspection and maintenance, it is likely not to be covered by the warranty. Annual inspection and maintenance is currently $600. You can prepay four years of annual inspection and maintenance by buying a $1900 service plan, thus saving $500. If you think you can do better by investing the money (and if you think prices won't rise too much), then don't prepay. Similarly, $3800 will buy eight years of annual inspection and maintenance.
