How do I apply for Tesla Financing?
Tesla offers an exciting and innovative new financing program for Model S that combines the benefits of both leasing and ownership. You can read more about this option on our Financing page. Can I finance with my own bank or credit union?
Yes. To finance with a 3rd party bank or credit union, you must provide your VIN, which will be found in your My Tesla account once it has been assigned. In order to apply 3rd party financing to your Model S purchase, Tesla requires the name of the funding institution, the exact dollar amount of your loan, and the lien-holder address and phone number.
Can I register my car with two names, but only take out a loan in one name?
No, your registration must match the names on the loan for your Model S. This requirement applies to both Tesla Financing and to 3rd party financing. You can directly edit your registration information in My Tesla.
Can I register my car to a business?
Yes, you may register your Model S to your business. Special conditions apply when it comes to financing under a business, so please consult with your Delivery Experience Specialist.
Do I have to register my Model S myself?
If you live in a province where Tesla has a Delivery Location or Service Center, we will take care of the registration for you. If you live in a province without a Tesla location, we will provide you with the necessary information and paperwork so you can register your Model S yourself..
Preparing For Delivery
What information do you need from me before delivery?
Please log into your My Tesla account and provide your registration address, the full legal names of all persons to be listed on the registration (must match your driver's license), and your auto insurance company, policy number, and expiration date. Please upload a copy of all registrants' drivers' licenses and a copy of your current auto insurance policy to the "My Documents" section of My Tesla. Additional information may be requested of you in My Tesla depending on your state of residence, so please be sure to read through the instructions carefully.
Do I need to have my Model S insurance policy active before delivery?
You must provide valid proof of insurance for your Model S at your delivery appointment. Your Delivery Experience Specialist will let you know what is required, as it varies between provinces. .
Who must be present at delivery?
All persons listed on the registration must be present to sign at delivery. In certain circumstances, a Power of Attorney may be permitted if a registrant cannot be present at delivery.
What do I need to bring with me to delivery?
- Your driver's license
- Proof of your Model S Insurance
- Final payment - certified cheque or bank draft made out to Tesla Motors Canada ULC.
- Void cheque for direct deposit of EV rebate (Ontario only)
- Void cheque, preprinted in the same name an address as MVPA and finance contract (if financing with Scotiabank).
- Three pieces of mail with name and address preprinted, matching MVPA and finance contract (if financing with Scotiabank).
What do I need to install to charge Model S at home?
You can find more information about what your Model S needs to charge on the charging page of the Tesla website. If you have ordered a High Power Wall Connector, it will be shipped to the Accessories Address (that you listed in My Tesla) two weeks before your vehicle arrives. How do I get the mobile app?
The mobile app for Model S can be found on the Apple App Store or on Google Play for Android. For safety reasons, while your Model S is at the factory or in transit to the service center, the mobile app is unable to connect to your car before delivery. Therefore, it may take an additional few days after delivery for activation to occur while we process your Model S delivery in our system.

How does Tesla process trade-in vehicles?
Tesla is happy to help you with trading in your current vehicle. Let your Owner Advisor or Delivery Experience Specialist know that you’re interested in a possible trade in. They will ask you for specific information about your current vehicle and submit the information for a quote. Our delivery team will reach out to you with a quote from our wholesale partner within 48 hours. If you wish to move forward with the trade-in, the delivery team will assist you with completing the trade-in and applying it to your Model S purchase.
Can I export Model S outside the US, Canada, or Europe?
If you export your Model S outside of the market for which it was built, Tesla will be unable to service your vehicle until it has been brought back to its home market. There is also a possibility that an exported Model S will not be compatible with the electrical and charging infrastructure in countries for which it was not designed and homologated. For these reasons, we strongly recommend that you purchase a Model S in the market where you plan to drive it. Model S is currently sold and serviced in the US, Canada, Europe, and Asia Pacific.
I just designed my Model S and submitted my order. What are the next steps?
There is a two-week window when changes can be made to your order before your Model S design is submitted to the factory. The e-mail address and password used while configuring your Model S will be your login for My Tesla. Here, you can immediately submit your order, or make changes during the two-week window. A Delivery Experience Specialist will be in touch shortly after your order is confirmed to guide you through payment, document signing and delivery logistics.
When will my car begin production?
After your order is confirmed and submitted to the factory, we will begin scheduling production for your custom Model S. The most current production timing can be found in the Design Studio for each battery type. Before your order is confirmed, this is your best resource for delivery timing. Tesla will always assume that you prefer the fastest delivery possible, unless you specify differently (discussed in the question below.) Once your order is confirmed we will keep you up to date in My Tesla and your Delivery Experience Specialist will be happy to provide updates as well.
How do I make sure I get my Model S when I want it?
Upon ordering your Model S, you will be asked to submit your delivery preference. This will automatically assume you would like the fastest delivery timeline available. If you would like to delay the production of your car, please ensure your delivery preference is accurately marked in My Tesla before you confirm your order. We will do our best to accommodate a timely delivery. If you need to change your delivery timing after order confirmation, please discuss with your Delivery Experience Specialist as soon as possible.
I've configured my car, but I don't want to wait two weeks before my order is submitted to the factory. Can I waive this waiting period?
Yes. If you're happy with your configuration, we can expedite your order submission to the factory once you've submitted your order payment. Please call us at (888) 771-2505 and select option 1. Keep in mind that changes can only be made during the initial two-week window before your order is placed. You may also confirm your order before the two weeks are up by clicking "Confirm Order" in your My Tesla account.
Can I change my order after the two week waiting period?
Once your order has been submitted to the factory, changes typically cannot be made because we immediately begin sourcing parts for your custom Model S. Please call us at (888) 771-2505 and select option 1 if you would like to consult on this matter with a member of our sales team.
When will I receive my Model S VIN?
Approximately 5-6 weeks before planned production, a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is assigned to your Model S and will appear in My Tesla. A VIN is often required for insurance and financing applications.
What is My Tesla?
My Tesla is your online account for all Tesla cars you may own or order. You will access your My Tesla account to input your registration information, view warranty and charging installation guides, access owner's manuals, and receive important updates from Tesla. Please note that all information in your My Tesla account directly affects the spelling and punctuation on your registration documents. You can also sign up for service plans in My Tesla. The "My Profile" section allows you to edit your name, e-mail, username, mailing address, e-mail settings and add an additional contact to your account. The "My Documents" section allows you to upload required documents, such as your driver's license, and houses documents uploaded by Tesla, such as your purchase agreement. You will also find your current Estimated Delivery timing in your My Tesla until you have scheduled your delivery appointment. This timing is based off of the current production schedule and the time needed for transit and delivery preparation.
What if I have more than one Tesla?
The "My Dashboard" section will show all of your Tesla vehicles (Model S, Model X and Roadster). If you have multiple cars on your account, clicking on "View Profile" will display your VIN and allow you to view your design for that particular car.
How do I pick up my Model S?
Your Delivery Experience Specialist will help you schedule a delivery pick-up appointment at your nearest Tesla service center. At this appointment, your Delivery Experience Specialist will walk you through your car's features. Please be prepared to pick up your Model S within one week of its arrival at the service center. Our expert staff performs a pre-delivery inspection and verifies that your car is detailed and fully charged. We also have walkthrough videos online should you need a primer or refresher on your car's features.
What if I live far away from the nearest service center?
If you live more than 260 km from the closest service center, your Model S can be shipped directly to your home. Payment in full is required before the car will ship. We encourage you to consider picking up your Model; S at the service center, as it offers you the very best delivery experience, including the ability to meet your local service team and receive a full vehicle walkthrough.
My delivery date is approaching. How will I know when my car gets here?
Once your car has been delivered to the nearest service center and the inspection is complete, your Delivery Experience Specialist will contact you to confirm your pick up appointment or shipment of the vehicle to your home.
Can I avoid the destination fee if I pick up Model S at the factory or a service center?
The destination fee is the same for all US and Canadian cars, regardless of delivery method or location (including pickup at the Tesla Factory).
What are the accepted methods of payment?
Final payment may be made by certified cheque or bank draft made out to Tesla Motors Canada ULC. If you have specific questions about your final payment, please contact the Delivery Experience team at (888) 771-2505 and selection option 2.
How much do I owe before I take delivery of my Model S?
Before driving off into the sunset with your Model S, we require that the balance be paid in full, either personally or by way of guarantee from a financing institution. To help you take delivery as quickly as possible, we provide an itemized breakdown of the final payment on the Motor Vehicle Purchase Agreement (MVPA) per your car's configuration, including any applicable taxes and fees. If you choose to finance through a 3rd party bank or credit union, the financed amount of your Model S will be listed on your MVPA. Once generated, you will find your MVPA in the "My Documents" section of your My Tesla profile. If you don't see it here, please contact your Delivery Experience Specialist to inquire.
Can I use a credit card to pay for my Model S?
Credit cards can only be used for the initial deposit. Acceptable methods of payment for the final amount due include certified cheque, bank draft, and wire transfer.
