I read this and was thinking of the movie Star Wars Episode I when Anakin was charging back up his pod racer after getting knocked out the race.

AC Propulsion had a "range extender" gen set trailer that could be pulled behind their T-Zero attached to the charge port that would provide infinite range (just add more fuel to the genset) much like a Volt, Fusion, Prius, hybrid does with the ICE genset onboard the car.
