Oh, NO, what happened to my car?

Well, a tow truck is scheduled to come tomorrow morning to take the car to the service center. I had an appointment anyway to get the door fixed, but now I can't drive it!
coming home this evening, I hit a pot hole on the road,

it wasn't very deep, maybe an inch or two, I think the pot hole did something bad to the wheel or thereabouts, I did not notice anything other than hearing the spray of pebbles hitting the wheel well, and I parked the car fine without hearing anything wrong.
But then a few minutes ago when I was going out, there is this really horrible metal scraping noise as the wheel turns, we looked under the car, nothing dragging on the ground, looked inside/behind the wheel, nothing we can see, but there is something bad going on.

damn.

Can you inspect the area near the brake rotor for that wheel? Sometimes a pebble can get caught between the rotor and its shield. I cannot explain the delay between the pothole and the noise, but the spray of pebbles hitting the wheel well sounds like a possible cause for for the noise. Maybe one fell as you were pulling into the garage or driveway. If you remove the wheel you might be able to remove it yourself. Of course you'll a heavy duty jack!

don't have any jack, so I am not doing anything myself, but the car is going to the service center tomorrow on a truck instead of me driving it.
I talked to the service manager who thought the rock was probably somewhere near the brake rotor causing the horrible noise. So far Tesla roadside assistance and service center have been responsive (note all these happened after 6pm!)

Let us know what they say. It would be interesting to know what this was. Some designs don't shield the rotor as they should allowing small pebbles to become lodged in that space. Running the car very far like that would ruin the rotor immediately. Good luck!

OK, the car was on a flatbed truck to the Menlo Park service center today, they found a piece of gravel about 2 centimeter long in the brake rotor, and they removed it. Drove the car back, all is well. No charge to me either. They also replaced the door handle of rear passenger door, which was opening by itself. So far, it seems to be fixed. One other unrelated fix, I had some problem with the J1772 plug not latching all the way in, they found that it was a little too large, they filed the adapter down a bit, but also ordered a new one. They said they have a newer model of that adapter, so if you had an earlier one, mine was from October, and it does not fit, then you should be able to get a replacement.

thanks for update Portia. Glad you got everything taken care of.

thanks.
I want to share another story told to me by the tow truck driver, Some guy, unnamed, owner of a black Tesla was driving too fast, maybe drag racing on the street in the bay area somewhere, got nailed by the sherrif, ticketed for "exhinition of speed and reckless driving" AND has his model S impounded for 30 days at the tow truck's lot, actually they housed it indoors and it was plugged in, and he had to pay $2000 to get the car out of the lot at the end of 30 days. No idea what his fine was for the tickets! I don't remember seeing anything like this on the forum. So, watch out! don"t want to have your car put in jail!

Showing off just got expensive!!

sheriff

yes, but you missed exhibition, BrianH
fumble finger on that one vs not knowing how to spell
I hate it when people get its vs it's wrong, there vs their, your vs you're...

Break Peddle vs Brake Pedal or Breaks vs Brakes are common misspellings in these forums. I always try to use the proof read button, It's available on any document. That said ... I'm "outta" here. MwaHahahahah !!

vs v vs.

DR;
all 3 commonly rendered as verses. Ugh.

Glad to know it was only the pebble. Does anyone how fast the car was going when the sheriff bagged him? And was it the raw speed or the insane acceleration the sheriff didn't like?

Maybe the sheriff wants the MS for his personal patrol car.

Wat uh bade ding ta hav hapin ta sumone driveing uh tresla. Dang occifer probly laft at du stasion

Brian H, help, need your help deciphering drp :^)

$10 says it was Elon. His is black isn't it? ;-)

Probably a bad idea to disable traction control....

12.64.090 Excessive acceleration.
No person shall operate a vehicle on a street or alley in such a manner as to facilitate its speed by means of leaving rear-wheel frictional rubber marks, caused by rapid acceleration. (Ord. 10 § 1 (part), 1982)

Guess its cool to light em up if you have front wheel drive

christine;
What a bad thing to have happen to someone driving a Tesla. Dang officer probably laughed, at the station.

@portia ^12

Those are the three I see most often, but I wouldn't say I hate it when I see one.

I catch one of my own occasionally when proof-reading a report or re-reading through an email/post I've just sent... so upon seeing those of others' I have to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Remember also that nobody is perfect - not even Brian :)

ok, it just bugs me, I was using the word loosely. lose vs. loose
