Having gotten beyond the salivating stage, I was glad to see a more even handed approach to the Model S. He calls then like he sees them, nits and all. But he ended on a good note, in that when these pesky bugs get ironed out (with added SOftware fixes) you end up with a better car than when you first bought it.
I assume the non extending door handles (occasionally) and the need to get inside the car to open the charging bay for a type 2 charge can be fixed. I wonder about the low frequency hum he hears though...
Providing a link would be thoughtful.
Or direct link to the charging one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFX5R8udRO4
which was very interesting.
Actually, this is the charging one:

Very nice, slightly dated, omitted the HPWC, etc.
YEs thanks, I finally got it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFX5R8udRO4
Glad to see someone has my back...

I'm not sure the charge door opening for a J1772 charger could be fixed easily. You could put the function in the adapter itself, but then it would need to be powered or embed a battery in it. A more realistic option is for the mobile app to get the ability. It isn't there now, but since it is controlled via software in the car and we have connectivity to the car it seems doable with at worst a firmware upgrade.
BTW, I don't know of any other car that let's you open the charge port just by walking up to it with a J1772 charger either - certainly on the LEAF you always have to open it up from inside. It has never been an issue, since I am in the car when I pull up to the charger, so I just open the port then.
I am just curious on others thoughts. Whenever I pull up to a gas pump I don't get out of my car swipe my credit card then go back to the car, open the drivers door then pull the lever to open the gas door. I ALWAYS open the gas door before I get out of my car..... so why is this such an issue... in case you forget you want to charge at the public charger you just parked in front of?
I just don't understand this as in issue at all but I don't own the car. How many times have those that have their cars had to walk back at a public charger because when they pulled up to the charger they forgot they wanted to charge before they got out of the car?
@Sudre_ - exactly, I have only done it the first time when I didn't think about opening it before getting out of the car. In the LEAF, I only failed to open the charger door once before getting out to charge in 14 months.
The new Tesla Android app fixes the problem of forgetting to pop the charger door (that is of course unless you forgot to grabyour phone before leaving the car)
My experience has been I pull up to the public charger, open the charge port from the touch screen, and then go dig out the J1772 adapter, activate the public charger, only to find I wasn't fast enough before the charge port latch locks me out. I then go back and unlock it again from the touch screen. I've learned my lesson and don't unlock the charge port door until I'm ready to plug in. No big deal!
And now you can open the charge port door from the phone app. I tired it and it works fine.
@stevenmailfert - I unlock the charge port, put the adapter in the charge port, then go fool with the charger and hook up the J1772 plug to the adapter. Never had any issue.
Biggest issue with car reviews... They review a car by model year and assume nothing changes between years. At least the cars.com guy acknowledges that. Most don't. But watching this video was pretty annoying because most of the issues are resolved except the butt sensor. I don't consider the charge port opening only by inside a problem at public charge stations because I expect nonstupids to open it as they drive up to a station, not get out, get the cable ready and try to open the door with their fingernails, then curse tesla for not sensing a person with less than ten synapses is near.
I think the butt sensor issue is handled by keeping the belt buckled. Just loosen the waist strap before twisting around.
@Brian - wrong thread?
Ya, but it was mentioned by the reviewer and a poster. There is so much reviewers don't know because they're not on the forums! ;)
I see the electric port opening during stage 2 has been fixed already.
