Supercharger Software Update & Harris Ranch

I'll be using the Harris Ranch supercharger this weekend and called Tesla to confirm availability. The service rep on the phone told me they have 2 chargers for the Model S and not 1. She said both were superchargers after i clarified if one was Roadster.

Can somebody confirm Harris Ranch as being capable of supercharging 2 Model S at the same time?

Also, she deployed a software update while on the phone which she said was to make supercharging issue free. I am already running 4.2 so not sure what this update is. Folks have any idea?

As of last weekend there still is only one supercharger and one roadster charger. Both units were
tried and confirmed as to capability.
The new superchargers being built, soon we hope, are apparently in a slightly different location.
I was told nearer the restaurant.

It is amazing that such basic information is not more current to the support line.

I was there a week ago and there was only one supercharger. I didn't see the new construction.

Are people using the roadster charger for the ms? How fast does it charge?

I imagine Saturday at Harris ranch around noon may be busy with a line

I was just there 2 hours ago. Only saw 1 SC and one locked up roadster charger.

And the sign there said more on the way but not until March.

I don't know about the one at Harris Ranch, but I just completed a trip from Seattle to California where I used six Roadster HPCs using the Roadster-to-S adapter. They were all 70 amps, and charged at anywhere from 40 to 50 miles per hour of charge.

What is the roadster to S adapter? Is it available to purchase?

Looks like the supercharger update is installing as we speak. Lets see what it does if anything

I did harangue the guys at the local store about that last week. Origionaly they said you could purchase one to use to charge at the store, but they have made one available to use there.

I pointed out that we alredy have twice as many S on the road as Roadsters, and that Tesla should provide adapters at the roadster chargers to make the system forward compatable.

For a couple hundred bucks and a padlock, they could fill in a lot of holes in the charging highway right now. (It would not be a supercharger, however it would be usefull for all S cars, including the 40s and 60s without superchargering hardware.)

I'd prefer to supercharge, but an roadster charger with my single onboard charger will still charge a lot faster than most of the blink or chargepoint stations I find.

I was at the Harris Ranch supercharger on Sunday. I can confirm that there is ONLY one supercharger there. The other is a Roadster charger. That charger is not locked. The "locked" part is the adaptor which lives separately from the roadster cable. To use for the model S, you have to fit the adaptor to the cable (it's about 3 feet long) then plug in.

Compared to the model S supercharger that 70amp charger is SLOOOOOOOOW! Hours compared to minutes.

This road trip confirmed for me how revolutionary the superchargers really are. The car sells itself, but the superchargers are what makes it practical. Once that network is nationwide... it's a whole new ball game!

In speaking with a TM rep on Monday, he told me there are some 60kWh owners who have reported issues with the Supercharger software. If you are having a problem, call TM and they will push the bug fix update to you. It's not a numbered update.

Interesting. What kind of issues; refusal to charge?

I may have run into this without realizing it. Two weeks ago, one of the Gilroy Superchargers indicated in the car "Ready to charge", but after 5 minutes I gave up. Tried unplug/replug but refused to start charging. I then drove to the next stall, and it worked immediately.

I've used 4 different superchargers without a hitch, and this happened to be one of the first generation superchargers, so perhaps the new update fixes it, but it might have just been a one-off issue. The Harris Range is also a first-gen charger and it worked fine two different times. It wasn't really a worry to me as it wasn't the first Supercharger I'd used. I also noticed two days later on a return trip someone using the Supercharger that I had a problem with. They were not around to ask if it the car was a 60 KW or 85 WK.

It is now March. More Harris Ranch chargers were promised for this month.
Is there any sign that they are being Installed? Travel season is coming and we could sure use them.

The sign says end of March.

Guess I expected construction would have started already to complete by end of March. Silly me. When they are there, we will hear about it instantly.

The actual construction is a snap. Getting the permits and power lines in place first is the holdup.

George says that 5 new Supercharging spots will open up in Harris Ranch

I was at Harris on the 12th of March. I spoke to a construction worker who was building the expanded Supercharger stations across the street from the gas station in the Restaurant parking lot. I personally saw that they in fact were woking on the stations. He indicated they would be completed at the end of this week. That doesn't necessarily mean they are available for use. You might call Harris Ranch and ask them if they are completed and in use.

Has anyone used the Supercharger at Folsom?

We were at Harris Ranch last weekend. The supercharger is super quick. We arrived to a line though. There is a roadster charger next to the super charger. When I was there, the Model S waiting for the super charger was at the roadster charger. When they Model S at the supercharger was done, we shuffled. The Model S at the roadster charger moved to the super charger and we pulled in to the roadster charger. The roadster charger is a 240volt/80 or 90 amp charger. We happen to have the twin chargers, so charging on the roadster charger wasn't too bad. The supercharger was really fast when we had our chance to swap in.

We did check out the construction of the new stations. They are in a different location, at the corner of the parking lot of the Harris Ranch restaurant, as noted on various other posts.

Leave a little time in your schedule in case there's a queue.

On our way back, the supercharger in Gilroy was down. I've heard it's back up again. We made it home (in San Jose) from Harris Ranch with 10 miles rated range.

I have used the supercharger at Folsom (2 weeks ago) it worked fine. Recommend you get App "recargo" - it has crowd sourced updates for most EV chargers, pictures, location, charge type and "check-ins" - check-ins are people who have updated the charging site with their latest experiences - so far I can't see owning an EV with out this application - they also have a website and they have optimized it for the Tesla Browser…

for example right now Recargo had someone check in on 3/21/13 with a successful charger report.

Use Folsom once a week, going tonight. Its been woring fine the last couple of times...
