Please use this forum topic to share your ideas for new website features or to let Tesla know if you find a bug. Thanks!

As like any other car company many of them come from other companies. Small things like knobs, mirrors, battery cells etc. are not manufactured by Tesla, only assembled by them.

It's a line of manufacturing from raw materials to end user, for each part there are several steps. Tesla doesn't do mining, so every part is more or less manufactured elsewhere with who knows how many steps in between. I don't think anyone even inside Tesla does know the entire picture, and if someone has that information I don't think he will go thru his papers to give you your answer so I don't think you get your answer here.

After Tesla launches Model S it is like any other car company with just one exception: it makes EV:s instead of ICE-cars. All the usual parts like body panels are then pressed and welded in their own factory.

Suggestion to fix spam problem: whenever person registers in you automatically moderate his/her five first messages without releasing them to forum unless they are OK. After that messages go straight thru. This removes both idiots and spambots.

I'm getting tired of marking messages as spam, there are around 20-30 pure spam messages / day in general forum, you could as well cut the writing rights there completely for time being until you have fixed the problem. Luckily other forum topics are still clean.

I've given up flagging them Timo. I just ignore based on the thread title.

I use the "new" count to know when there is something to read, so I like to get those "new" spam posts away ASAP to see if there are any real posts in them. In order to get rid of "new" -count I need to go read each and every one of them, so pressing that "report" link is no problem. Unfortunately there is no "mark this forum read" button here.

The trouble is many of the spam is the same spam posted with different user names and different topic headings. Usually if the topic heading doesn't seem of relevance, doesn't make sense, or contained certain phrases I've already seen and were spam, I ignore them, and I do the same for anything with text using different alphabets than used by most western countries. Some of the spam is pages long with the same disconnected, irrelevant and meaningless phrasing.

I could obviously ignore the entire "general" forum, as most seem to have done. There has not been many real posts here for several weeks, only zillion spams. I'm guessing that people that used to write here have lost their interest because of the amount of spam.

Suggestion to moderator: rename this forum as spambait, then leave it as it is.

Suggestion to moderator: resign, so someone competent can have your job.

52 spam messages since last friday. I seriously suggest that you close this forum (General forum, that is) until you have figured out how to control the incoming spam.

If spam just moves to other forums then you have a big problem. Big enough that it is worth taking whole forum off-line until you have figured out the solution to this mess.

thanks for cleaning up the spam.

There is a user "airjordonshoes" that posts only spam, problem with that one is that that bot is capable of replying to existing threads. Ban that user. Take IP-address from it and ban based on that.

99% of posts here are spams. I would consider 10% a problem, this is major league catastrophe. Close the forum. Resolve problem. Open forum.

I'm getting "under maintenance" page every time I post an message. Not any "this will be moderated" or anything like that, but just "under maintenance" and in the address field there is "/spam/denied".

And it looks like spam is still getting thru, because I just saw a new spam message (written in Polish) in general forum that was not there yesterday.

These forums are only for registered users, so easiest way to remove spammers is to make registering impossible to non-humans. Do it, please.

I'm getting almost the same thing, on the General 'battery backup' thread only when I try to reply to VolkerP.

In the address field is "spam/denied#comment-form

I have trouble getting posts thru currently, every single one of them seem to go to that "/spam/denied#comment-form" -page with "page under maintenance" as main theme.

I suspect all of us have that same problem, because forum activity has almost ceased completely.

Is there some reason for this change? Or is your webpage just acting up and nobody is doing anything to fix it? Some announcement about what's going on would be good to have.

I suspect this gets thru tomorrow when someone reads misplaced messages (if it gets thru at all).

Posting triple just in case.

Hi All,

Thanks for bearing with us as we sorted out the spam issue. We recently instated a new spam filtering tool and were working out kinks over the weekend.

A few comments from regular contributors were considered spam because they looked like duplicate content (i.e. you submitted the same comment more than once). To alleviate these "false positives" moving forward, please try not to post the same comments twice.

All Owners and Reservation Holders are on an approved list; your comments are not filtered.

If a comment is flagged as inappropriate more than twice it will be added to the spam queue for review.

Thanks for your patience!

- Tesla

That's false. I was filtered on first post for a number of times, and finally tried simple "test" posts.

And I just flagged 3 new spam posts in this forum.

So you're generating false positives and false negatives with no help or "justification" from us.

Same here. I was getting filtered out from my first post almost always. I think I got one message thru from about 10-15 in a weekend at first try.

I still think it is easiest to block spammers by blocking bot access to registration. At least make it hard for bots to register in.

Your spam filter isn't working currently.

Seven spams got thru and at least one of them consist only links, a lot of links. Something like 100 or so links.

One with some apparently bogus complain message that is actually entirely a link.

Two with two links, both have a message above those links repeated twice.

One with long message that is semi-readable apparently generated by some generator with links embedded into text

One that just doesn't have anything to do with Tesla, EV:s or anything assorted, apparently a person trying dig some email addresses from people.

One that is obvious spam from its content, advertising a very dubious service, probably illegal and harmful to people. Maybe even a trojan (didn't click the link).

Just flagged another 12 Spam. Mostly from Poland, this time.

Flagged 18 today. Your 'fix' is f***ed.

I gave up flagging those, there are just too many of them coming all of time. Something like 30-40 in a weekend easily. I just stopped reading messages in general forum unless someone had already answered to some message in the bunch of spam. That way I can recognize which is probably not a spam.

Has this general forum gone nuts. Cant even find my thread that was active on Sept/2/20011

Make that 2011.LOL Where the heck is my thread. Was discussing unemplyment and if anyone thinks potential Tesla buyers are impervious to unemplyment or that this issue is not relevant then they are nuts. Will be glad to elaborate. So where is my freaking thread "Esotoric EV Ramblings". Did some little geek take it off because it was getting a little to much into the nitty gritty truth.

Make that "Esoteric EV Ramblings". LOL again.

It's still there. Either google for it or sort by replies and you find if fast.

Thanks Timo, haven't been on site much lately, anything out standing going on in Battery Tech lately. What companies are likely to be the breakthrough ones from your persoanl obsevation. You Finns can do this, got anything going on this front there. By the way how is employment in Finland currently. Are your retail outlets being flooded with shoddy "everyday use" items from other countries? Good talking with you, been awhile.

TESLA, Just go ahead and DELETE THE GENERAL FORUM. All of the spam has become embarrassing, and it does not appear as though you can control it. You've got more important things to work on right now anyway.

In the Forum top page, there's a stuck "5 New" in Model S, that won't clear. I've checked by resorting every way possible, and there are no new threads I haven't seen.

I'm seeing that five "new" threads too in Model S forum. I thought it was only in my account, but apparently it isn't. Anybody else?

21 spam threads flagged today in General.

Spammers are obviously more competent than TM IT staff.
