Cost savings

I am considering model s , drive bout 100 miles a day , are there real cost savings with model s , i get about 22.6 mpg with my current lexus ls 460 (2007) considering a replacement vehicle , any owner expreriences

prtreddy Motor trend rated it at about 90 MPGe if that helps compare. I do not own one currently though I am trying my best to be able to afford one. If you want owner feedback do a search on youtube for Model S Owner Reviews there are some great ones on there that cover just about every aspect of ownership.

prtreddy - depends where you live and what are your electrical rates. In CA I pay $0.36 per kWh and the trip to the inlaws cost me $24 in electricity, taking the 25 mpg ICE the gas cost is $50.

I checked my hydro bill recently and paid ~$211 for ~6,000km. I believe that makes for ~3.5c per km. (This also assumes I used no hydro for any other purpose other than to charge the car.) My usual bill prior to the 'S was about $80.00 for two months' service. If I subtract the usual amount that makes for $131 or slightly under 2.2c per km.

My wife and I sometimes use public charging stations so this is only a rough estimate. We also had to charge the car during the day due to unforeseen circumstances and hence did not take advantage of TOU rates. Of course once we get "sleep" mode back in the Model S firmware, we should see the costs go down yet again.

@Jewsh - You mean kW not km... That's dirt cheap. The national average is 11c.

Yes, Ontario has very cheap hydro. The wife and I also take full advantage of restaurants/stores with charging stations. For example the Tim Horton's near us has a Chargepoint L2 (240v/30A) station for use by customers. We now eat there regularly. :-)

P.S. That's per km; multiply by .6214 to get miles.
3.5¢ x .6214 = 2.2¢/mi.
2.18¢ x .6214 = 1.34¢/mi.
