Straubel at the Design West event in San jose this week, said reservations for the Model S had exceed 10,000. I believe that exceeds the last number Tesla acknowledged officially.

@Thumper, I agree, while standing around trying to pick colors this past weekend I was amazed at how many people walking into the store had no idea what they were looking at. "Hey look it's a car, are they giving it away?" Several folks didn't know it was a dealership, but who could blame them.
bump, bump
I received Reservation 8064 US P March 27, 2012.

It seems clear that Tesla is going to sell enough for a little while. I'm not sure how to do this, but, as a reservation holder, I'd like to see a set of guestimate curves showing production.
Given Tesla's admittedly nonlinear production hopes (go slowly at first and ramp up), we should be able to guess some data points. What reservation numbers do we expect to be delivered at the first of each month? Separate curves for US, Canadian, European, Australian, etc.?
These curves can be updated as deliveries are announced. Takers?
OK! Moderately optimistic version:
07/1 S50
08/1 S600
09/1 S1500, P200
10/1 P1500, C-S200
11/1 P2400, C-P400,
12/1 P3600, E/A, A, HK, S300
01/1 P5000, E/A, A, HK, P200
Couldn't make it come out to include P6800 by Jan. '13, but if the ramp up is a bit faster in the Aug-Sept period, it might get there!
;)
Note re above: the 09 'S1500' is intended to cover all the loose bits, like the Founders, SSLs, etc. I expect, also, the Cdn and EU reservations to begin spiking in early/mid-summer, so those numbers are pretty uncertain.
Brian - Of course the (P) numbers will get reshuffled based on battery size selected. I suspect you intended it to mean that eg. P2400 is the 2400th P produced. Not necessarily the car for reservation holder P2400, right? Because if reservation holder P2400 wants a 160 battery, it probably won't come on 11/1.
David - There has been lots of discussion on these and other boards about production order. Long and short of it is we really don't know exactly how it is going to be handled. My GUESS is that they will call a certain number of P reservation holders and then batch those into battery/color/options groups for production. This aproach gives them manufacturing flexibility while keeping the loose promise of a reservation number holding your production number. (I have that original email from TESLA that says and I quote directly: "As soon as the funds are received, you lock in your place in the production queue".) No one will complain too much about this type of batching as long as it doesn't get extreme. Think of it this way: If P1500 gets his car before P1250, no feathers will be ruffled. But they can't afford the lawsuit for breech of contract when P8000 gets his car before P1000 based on battery choice. They can't afford thousands of irrate customers.
Bruce;
Not so sure about that, though your example is kind of extreme. TM has made it pretty clear for some time that the Sigs & Bigs will come first, till they get some slack capacity to begin picking up the Mids and Smalls. Part of the deal.
Once we're into 2013 (past the initial Founder/Sig production and even past the 85kWh/60kWh/40kWh ramp-in), I'm sure the batches will be relatively small. Tesla is planning on making 80-90 cars per day, so batches of a half-day's production are only 40-45.
Tesla has taken several opportunities to brag about it's flexible production capability. I don't know if 'batches' will be in the cards once they meet sig demand. But then "I don't know" covers all of us. ;-}
Bruce;
However, your point clarifies for me what the customer with a P# in the 6800s was told (expect delivery in Dec. '12) -- probably that was a Big, so the P# doesn't represent actual volume. I'd guess that P# and delivery sequence will probably intersect about a year from now.
Which brings up an idea; perhaps it would be fun/interesting/informative to track deliveries here, in parallel with reservations! Starting July 1 ... :).
Another bump.
Europe - P853 4th April

Does anyone know, does P start at 1 or 1001? Meaning, is there a P1 or do the numbers start after the 1000 signatures?
I note that other than Hong Kong, no other Asian country appears to be represented. Particularly Japan and India. Has a sales effort not been made there? how about Southern Africa? or Indonesia?
I am particularly interested in right-hand drive countries.
