I haven't picked up my MS yet. Can anyone tell me if I can set my homelink GPS to appear when I approach my neighborhood gate (which I would program into it) and then appear a few mins later when I approach my garage? Thanks!
The Model S seems to remember where you were when you programmed the homelink. So if your neighborhood gate uses homelink, then if you can program your car when you are at the gate you should be good to go.
This is exactly what I have done. Works flawlessly every time.
Ditto for my condo underground garage door... Homelink menu opens up and highlights the door's label by the GPS co-ordinates when it was programmed (within 30 ft or so radius)
It's an awesome feature that makes me glad I got the tech package.
yup, works great, it sets the particular link (at the location it was programmed) as the default and opens the Homelink menu so you can just push the highlighted one.
I saw in the manual that one can program the homelink off an existing remote. But my garage door openers have a button that program the opener to match the remote, rather than vice versa. (I actually need both, for the complex's gate.) Earlier homelink-enabled cars didn't have a problem, and I haven't picked up my car yet, but is this possible?
@dnew92130: Yes, you may be able to program with just the remote, but you also may have to press the "learn" button on the opener. I had to press the learn button for my garage door openers.
@Longhorn92 Thanks! Good to know! Given it was Homelink-branded, I suspected that would be the case.
Note also the secret "learn" spot: inside the frunk, center front.
Hey all - Maybe I'm confused how homelink works. I drive up to to my gate, and homelink signifies my "gate" green but it doesn't automatically open. Am I too far away? should it be automatically opening the gate or is it operating properly by just highlighting it green in that location?
and by the way. this car is so awesome. :)
Yep, it just highlights it. It will not open it for you.
We have two gates on two different side streets yet both use the same remote. We had to program each one separately and name them for the streets they are on.
