Service Plans changing?

We all saw our "Buy Service" buttons disappear from our Garage pages after the financing announcement. It was said to be a bug. Finance Now links were showing up, so that seemed reasonable. Here we are a week later, and the button has not returned to my Garage (the finance now link is gone). Recently Elon tweeted that there would be three more announcements in the month of April. One around service, one around super charging, and one mysterious announcement. On a recent Engadget article, Elon said that their service offering needed improving.

This has me wondering, are they going to go more like BMW and Mer, where the first two years are free? Honestly, it was disappointing to see there was a required $600/yr service requirement (cheaper if you pre-pay). They constantly tout that it has only 11 moving parts, and its maintenance is near zero. Providing software updates, should not be something they say you get in the "service" either. Its a part of the platform that they are promoting as revolutionary. If Android and iOS had paid updates (Apple did once for iPod touch, but no longer) their adoption would be significantly less.

I personally hope Tesla changes course on their service plans. What does everyone else think?

I am hoping but have no idea. My Garage page went completely blank of pictures and buttons over a week ago.....

My "Services Sign Up" button has now re-appeared, and the countdown clock has continued to tick while the button was gone...

The software updates were to be provided for free even if you didn't sign up for the service agreement under the original plan.

button is back. I bought my service before button disappeared and agreement has same pricing from what I can tell.

The drive train (AC motor, gears, differential, etc.) may have 11 parts, but there are at least 49 other motors (fans, windows, HVAC, pumps, wipers, etc.) with various connected mechanisms. These other motors are typical of any car. The Tesla has far fewer drive-train parts that take the most abuse and expense when failing. Other moving include hinges, locks, suspension and shocks that all have a finite lifetime.

For the moment, I'll wait to hear what the new service plan and/or changes are. The old plan was not unreasonable, but did seem a bit expensive.

Has anybody elected to go with the 4 + 4 service option? It is likely that an extension warranty plan will be offered in the future but cost is unknown at this time. I will most likely get the basic 4 year plan for now and take my chances 4 years later if I decide to keep the car longer.

Gamble now is that a plan will not be offered in the future and what that will do to the resale value. My other consideration is the fact that in my 44 year history of driving and car ownership, I have only kept a car longer than 4 years 2 times....Is the car built to last and what will the new MS's look like in 4 years??

What are others doing about the various service plan options?

i have another 14 days to make a decision. I am going to wait until the last day to make sure there are no changes to the plans before that. Since it is transferrable I will probably choose the 8 yr. for 3800. The Tire Warranty plan does not show up on my services page for the last few days...even though there is a link to buy the plan on another page which takes me back to my service plan selection page.

Do you have to opt into the extended plan (years 5-8) now? Or can you choose it after the first 4 years?

I signed up for the 4+4 because I will probably have driven 100,000 miles at the of 4 years not 8.

Service button is back, but only links to Tire and Wheel insurance. Service plans do not show up!

Erictridoc. I spoke to TM customer service about extended warranty after 4 years. I was told that I could extend for the second four years anytime but it had to be before my 4 year warranty expired.

That said, I will send them an e-mail so I have written confirmation.

Thanks petero. Let me know when you get email confirmation. Otherwise, probably a no brainer to just go with the 4 year option...Interestingly, I average only about 10,000 miles/year typically. My MS is only 4 months old and I have over 5,000 already. I love driving and look for excuses just to go for a ride now.

I purchased the 4+4 service plan the first day it was available. While it wasn't cheap, I don't think the price covers actual TM costs.

I purchased it now because I anticipate the price/terms will increase/change within the next 12 months. If they don't, nothing lost. If they do, money saved. I think TM will make adjustments for me if the price/terms change in a way that is not fair to customers.

Found out why my service button doesn't work for service plans. Not yet available in Connecticut, because CT doesn't allow service plans if a car company does not have dealer's license in the state. Hopefully it will get resolved soon. In the meantime, service plans not available for CT residents. They are planning a service center for CT.

Still can't wait for my Model S!

engineers and mechanics comment that the car seems over-engineered and built, if anything. The structure is more robust than necessary, everywhere.

There used to be links for wheel and tire insurance. Now they seem to be missing. Anyone else see them? Anyone know what happened?

There was a fairly short period of time for you to order this coverage. The period has probably just lapsed.

I am just about to take delivery and my links for wheel and tire coverage disappeared about a week ago.

I take delivery on Thursday 4/25, tire insurance link vanished from my page a few days ago.

I can find no tire and wheel plan anywhere on the TM site at this time. Discontinued?

I think they've eliminated it. I'm going to send a note to ownership about it.

I have confirmed with tesla that the wheel/tire insurance option has been eliminated. Apparently the process used by the 3rd party provider was terrible and Tesla determined it was not up to the level of customer service they expected. It required the customer to pay for the work up front, provide a bunch of proof in an application for reimbursement and it included a $600 .deductible. Basically health insurance style process...

Somebody also reported he was asked to send them the old tire before they would agree to pay.

What about those of us who purchased the plan already?

Where do you live? In CA you have 60 days to cancel for full refund if not used. Read agreement... including your state section.

Reviewed the tire plan agreement - and can be cancelled for full refund within first 30 days.

If any of you have chosen to purchase the $2500 Extended Warranty (Extended Service Agreement), I am curious why you cant wait until the end of 4 year standard warranty to purchase? I know you would be locking in the 2500 rate but any other advantages of buying now?

Time = money.

I haven't read the warranty in detail, but I would fear if the car is totalled or stolen, you are out the $2500. So why not wait the 4 years?
