Countdown to Model S Launch !

OBVIOUSLY, Tesla Motors is doing a great job with finishing touches on the Model S, since at this point, virtually all of the discussion surrounds very minor issues and preferences pertaining to the car.

Congratulations to TM for all the hard work that was expended over the last 3 years! I'm feeling really good right now, because it's become apparent to me that I "bet" on the right "horse". I have a feeling that the launch this summer will be very successful.

I'm looking forward to being invited to the next Fremont event. Perhaps a rollout event of the first production Model S?

All of us (reservation holders), need to come together and support the company at every opportunity, so it will be clear to the press and other potential customers that we really do love the car.

Who's with me on that?

Stop tempting me with road trips I can't take!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P

I'm hoping to have at least one more trip to Freemont for Model S, but am content with having events at the Bellevue store as the team there is super cool.

Stuff that would bring my family back to Freemont:

1. First test drives - With so many Reservation holders I'm not sure how this scales to +8000
2. First RC cars - But would expect test rides or drives and not sure how this would scale
3. Visit when our car is built - Again, difficult to manage as TM should be rolling off 30 to 40 per day when they hit #2842. It would be cool if they have video cameras that you could watch and have a recording to take with you (MINI does this).
4. Model X - Test rides
5. Bluestar

+1 on the video option. That would be very cool to watch even if we couldn't see it live.

Here's what you can expect:

I have very exciting news to share on how we plan to deliver Model S. I am very pleased to introduce "Tesla Personal Delivery." We will deliver your car wherever you like: [...] We will also offer the option to take delivery at our Fremont factory. Along with the detailed explanation about your Model S and its technology, you will get a tour of the factory to see where your Model S was born. We are very excited about Tesla Personal Delivery and the Factory Experience. Both will be great ways to meet your new car.

Some other new news from that blog: Sat Radio now doesn't require the pano roof: "We found a solution that allows us to offer Satellite Radio, without the shark fin, on all cars that choose the Sound Studio option."

Another new item: "When you outfit your Model S with Turn-by-Turn Navigation, we include 7 years of map updates at no charge." (vs $200+/annum usual fees.)

I wonder if taking delivery at the Fremont factory includes an option to have the car shipped, like BMW and Audi with European delivery. I would love to take delivery in CA and take a quick vacation. However, I live in North Carolina.

I was wondering the same thing. I would love to pick it up, take the factory tour and then have it shipped later.

Is there any indication that we can save on the delivery fee if we pick it up at the factory? That would mean a free upgrade of something... :)

@BYT, any idea how much the delivery fee will be?

I think I asked this question in another forum (can't remember which one), but didn't get any answer.

~ Prash.

I can't remember if it was $1,300 or $1,700 but not a whole lot more then that unless my memory has really REALLY gone the way of the Dodo Bird.

IIRC, someone (who has placed his order) said on one of the forums that the delivery fee is $1,070.

In that case my memory does suck worse then I remember... :)

@Soflauthor - I think ggr's numbers added up to $1,170.

We don't have sat radio in Europe, so the quiestion is; will they offer DAB radio ? FM will be turned off here in 2017, so without DAB there will be no more radio in 2017...

Sadly Nissan dropped the ball on this one, no DAB in my Leaf :(

@BYT, @Soflauthor, @brianman, thanks guys. I was hoping it will be under $1000, perhaps around $800. Oh well!

~ Prash.

I was fully expecting to pay about $1,000 for destination charges. I was fearing that it would be much more than that, so I am pleasantly surprised if it is right around $1,000 for delivery to my house.

@Prash and David, I think they will even deliver it with a full tank? ;)

Yes, $1170 total delivery fees. The consensus over on TMC http://www.teslamotorsclub.com/showthread.php/7897-It-s-Time-to-Build-Yo... seems to be that unless CA law changes, you can't pick up at the factory without paying CA sales tax.

Being in CA, that is unavoidable anyway... blah!

I'm looking forward to being invited to the next Fremont event. Perhaps a rollout event of the first production Model S?

All of us (reservation holders), need to come together and support the company at every opportunity, so it will be clear to the press and other potential customers that we really do love the car.

Who's with me on that?- David M.

I'm with you David!

However, I think it is unlikely that there will be another major event like the Fremont extravaganza more frequently than on an annual basis.

I'm guessing that all the stores will have a release candidate to view fairly soon, and I expect some will be touring the country. I definately plan on attending those events when they materialize. I'll try to organize local meetups of our Florida club members following those events.

Larry

Larry - you may be right, although the Model S rollout milestone is the biggest accomplishment in Tesla's history. I'm sure they will plan some sort of event that's not just for the press, even if it's mostly outside the factory.

You might already be aware that Tesla's Florida showroom will be moving over the next 2 to 3 months, from Dania Beach to a more upscale location nearby. They'll keep the Dania Beach location for service. Therefore, since they will be in transition for 60 to 90 days, I wouldn't expect them to have any sort of showroom display for at least 3 months.

@BYT, Lol. It took me a second to figure out the joke :)

LOL, thanks Prash, that was for you! ;)

@Larry, I actually heard from a Tesla rep. that they planned events for the Model S roll out and even at the Fremont Tesla Motors factory. Sorry I can't recall who told me, I think it was one of the reps at the Menlo Park Tesla Store.

@BYT: A full tank of ....... Windshield washer fluid! ;)
