Houston

I'm proud to be the 1st Tesla owner in Houston (at least according to this board and Tesla Owners Map).  Where better to showcase the merits of electric cars than the Energy Capital of the World!!

If I'm wrong, I'd love to meet any other owners who are incognito.

Love the idea, NICE!!!

Can we get a Facebook group for Houston folks? I could start one if you'd like.
Would be nice to put a face to everyone.

Hey guys, I have created a group in Facebook. Please click on the below link and join. Thanks a lot!!

Just for clarification, the meetups are meant to be an additional avenue for Houston Tesla owners to get together and not to replace the C&C event.

Today, I had my Tesla "opti-coated" by John Gray (832-264-0670). He performed an outstanding job and I concur with everyone else in the forum. Highly recommended.

Houston Coffee & Cars event created on the Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/events/603642853003208/ Please RSVP so we can get a count on the numbers of Teslas showing up and work on the parking situation accordingly. Please spread the word.

Here are some pictures from our Houston Tesla Club meetup on 7/20.

We gathered at Fry's in Southwest Houston.

Thanks to John Gray "The opti-coat Guy" who showed up greet us and give away bottles of detail spray.

Then we caravan for an hour to the restaurant. People were waiving and snapping pictures. We snapped pictures of each other too.

We arrived at Top Water Grill in San Leon (a little past Kemah).
They blocked off the peninsula just for our Teslas.

We couldn't resist the photo op. We lined up the Teslas for these great pictures.

There was a lot of interest for sure. People kept getting into the picture.
We finally had to give in and gave them a full demonstration.

Our Teslas were in prime view from the restaurant.

The food was delicious and we talked Tesla for hours.

We had a great time and we hope to have many more Tesla meetups.

A special thanks to Top Water Grill for accommodating our Tesla Club. http://www.topwatergrill.com/

Houston Coffee and Cars is again this weekend--we had a GREAT turnout last time with 8 cars, but we hope to do even better this time. Additionally, we want to do an informal meetup afterwards at Saint Arnold Brewing Company since Coffee and Cars is too early or too far for many folks. We will try to get there by 10:30am (the brewery opens at 11am, but the line usually starts at 10:30am and there are limited tables).

Saint Arnold Brewing Company Tips:

1) Admission: $8/person: Includes tour & souvenir glass
2) Consider bringing your own chair. They have limited seating.
3) You are free to bring your own food, but they have some.
4) Tours are at noon, 1pm, and 2pm. (Closed toe shoes required.)
5) I asked if they could block out parking for us, but there is limited parking behind their gate. If the primary lot is full (likely, it is small), there is an auxiliary lot or you can park on the street.

Address: 2000 Lyons Ave., Houston, TX 77020
Phone: 713.686.9494

See their website for more details: http://www.saintarnold.com/

Coffee and Cars Tips:

Did you just get your car in the last month or two? Would you like to meet some other owners? Would you like to share your love of Tesla with others? Then come on out!

NEXT GATHERING: AUG 3rd, 2013 Join us the first Saturday morning of the month for our next gathering. From 8:00AM until 10:00AM at Vintage Park.

All are welcome to come by and attend. If you are bringing a Tesla, please try to arrive by 6:30am (!) so you can get a space and we can park together. We will attempt to park next to:

We Got Your Back Chiropractic - http://wegotyourbackchiropractic.com
110 Vintage Park Blvd. Suite D Building J
Houston, Texas 77070

If you think you will be coming, can you let me know by Private Message on TMC? I need to know how many spaces to block off and how many to hold for late arrivals. We will likely do the driveout at 9:30am so remember to set your active air suspension to LOW for that if you have it. Driveout is back through the main gate--if you can, try to keep the cars together so we all show up together on the videos.

We hope to see you there!!

Map (see red arrow):

Short notice, but if people would like to gather for an informal Tesla owners dinner next week, I've made reservations for 15 at Brennan's next Thursday at 6:45pm:

Address: 3300 Smith Street | Houston, TX 77006
Phone: (713) 522-9711
URL: http://www.brennanshouston.com

This is a fixed price $35 dinner with three courses for Houston Restaurant Weeks. $5 goes to benefit the Houston Food Bank. Check out the menu here and please RSVP (PM on TMC is fine) if you would like to join us!

http://www.houstonrestaurantweeks.com/

Dress: Business Casual
Price: $35 does not include drinks, tax, or gratuity
Parking: $5 valet

If you can't make this one, don't worry, we'll probably do another before 2 Sept (end of HRW). HRW offers some good deals for some very good restaurants. If people have suggestions for others they want to try, please let me know. I was going to choose RDG - Bar Annie (which I usually love) but I went for lunch yesterday and I don't think their HRW menu is as good as the last couple years.

Picked up my new Pearl White P85+ this morning at the Houston SC (a week earlier than expected) and was told that it had the new 5.0 software update, which apparently came out in the last day or so (sleep mode, mutlidirectional maps, etc). Nice!

Nice! I'm really looking forward to getting 5.0 Bob, will you be able to join us for dinner at Brennan's on Thursday? Seeing 5.0 would be cool.

bobobrit, if you get a chance, please press the Tesla "T" in the center/top of the 17" screen and take a picture of that screen with the version number, then click through to the Release Notes and take pictures of them to post here. You will be an instant celebrity on here! Just post the pictures to Flickr, Photobucket, or whereever and post a link to them here!

Here's the release notes from v5.0 (1.35.96):

Sorry about the photo quality -- soon they will be in perfect clarity on the screen of your own vehicle...

Wow, crazy turnout today at Coffee and Cars! Thanks for everyone that showed up, sorry we didn't have enough spaces. 16 cars (14 Model S, 2 Roadsters) is a record for us. It was cool to see the two custom Vossen wheels options, Greg's Tesla light, and all of the colors together (minus Jason's grey car). It was also great to see Ian's car back in action!

Hello Houstonian Tesla owners. Does anyone here have a Pearl White Tesla that I could see? I am trying to see the difference b/n pearl white and white. From the internet, pearl white appears a little more muted. Thoughts are welcome from anyone who has seen it live and in person. Thank you!

Here are two pics of mine....

Wow. It is truly beautiful! Thank you for sharing. :)

Here is my plain white.

Just took delivery of my Pearl White 60.

Any recommendations for tinting and what kind?

What is the difference between Xpel and Opticoat?

Thanks!

ROckets11,

For tinting i used Xpert Tint on 59 & Beltway. Got their Ceramic tint and am very happy (very effective with heat blocking). Not as pricy as some of the other: 3M, Huber or EVS products. Not sure if there is that much more of a difference.

I also had the Xpel clear bra (Paint Protection Film - PPF)installed there. Xpel is a plastic film that provides a layer of protection on the paint surface (bugs, rock chips, bird droppings, tree sap, etc.) there have been reports of PPF also protecting the paint from all sorts of other dings. Some people just apply to the front surfaces, others have wrapped their whole car.

Opticoat is a paint treatment - it goes strait on the paint surface. On our Blue MS - it helped to significantly harden the clear coat and reduce the occurrence of surface swirls/micro scratches. John Gray listed above (832-264-0670)does a great job with Opticoat.

If you were to do both - I believe it is recommended to get Opticoat first on the whole vehicle, then install the partial Xpel wrap wherever you desire.

Awesome...thanks jed-99!!

I am a new Tesla owner! Love this car! Please let me know where you all took the MS to get the inspection sticker.
Thank you!
Carol G

@Carol: Congrats! You can pretty much go anywhere for the inspection. Jiffy Lube works. If you don't feel comfortable with that, you can also take it to some car dealers like BMW and Mercedes (call first). Just make sure they do 'safety only' so it only costs like $15 instead of the full emissions test.

@Carol: You know, maybe scratch Jiffy Lube unless you know them well. I had my car inspected at a similar place (Goodyear) in NW Houston and they did a great job (they do the service on my dad's truck which is how I know them), but the Jiffy Lube near me is pretty variable. I've been by to get my tires inflated no problem (they do it free) but when I got my car inspected there today, it was a different crew and they weren't as good. They even told me that while it was a "safety only" inspection this year, I would have to get the full emissions test next year. I said "really, how would you do that considering the car has no emissions" and he said he'd have to check. :-)

Got my safety inspection done at Jiffy Lube on Shepherd and no problem.

Getting quoted $1200 for SAT tint all around the car (including pano and windshield) by EVS. Fair price and is it worth it to pay for this particular tint?

Sounds about right. I think EVS is quoting everyone the same price. I didn't do the pano-roof but did everything else plus a bunch of XPEL on the front.

Update for this Saturday morning's activity. Normally we would be at Houston Coffee and Cars (since it is the first Saturday of the month); however, it is moved this month to downtown for Grand Prix of Houston. We opted not to attend due to the cost, but if anyone does decide to go, please take some photos. A few of the rest of us are going to take a leisurely drive to Hempstead for lunch:

Meetup Details:
When: Saturday, October 5, 2013
Where: Starbucks Vintage Park, 10805 Louetta Rd, Houston, TX 77070
When: 9:30 a.m.
Caravan drive: 10 a.m. (promptly or as soon as all of us arrive)
Arrive: 11:00 p.m.
Destination: The Thirsty Parrot, 13200 FM 359, Hempstead, TX 77445

http://www.thethirstyparrot.com/

Afterwards, a few might head to Columbus to try out the new SuperCharger (which is already on), although I have to get back so I won't make it there until Tuesday.

All are welcome!
