Norway shows the way with electric cars, but at what cost?
It's articles like this that annoy me. They make fair points about the cost and range, but their entire environmental argument is classically wrong.
"Elsewhere, electric cars may cut pollution locally by eliminating exhaust but are often charged from electricity generated by high-polluting coal-fired power plants elsewhere.
In fact, in places like China, the requirements for electric cars just add to environmental problems."
The fact that they had to point to China, with notoriously bad emissions laws, as opposed to another western country to make their case should tell you something.
This is more an indictment of China's utility laws than the electric car. Should we not buy electric cars because they may be higher polluters in China?
Also, by centralizing emissions, it becomes much more cost effective to reduce them.
A properly filtered and maintained coal plant is less polluting than the energy-equivalent number of ICEs. Centralization pays when generating electricity, notwithstanding sweet subsidized FIT solar deals.
EV's are well worth it to push breakthroughs in battery technology, which can be applied to many other industries.
Yes, it seems that the media is obviously made up of "Manchurian Candidates".
"If the bus lane is closed the economic aspect of the car will be terrible," said Are Paulsrud, who drives a Mitsubishi electric car.
"The car cost 250,000 crowns and if the bus lane is closed ... I won't be able to sell it."
Such a silly comment. The bus lane "perk" is nice, but pales in comparison to the savings from not paying for $10 a gallon gas.
Yes, the "bus lane" comment is pure stupid..
I'd rather much sitt in commuting line with an EV, than a gass car. It still saves money compared to burning fossile fuel, and going slow mean I dont need to worry about range anxiety.:-)
If he rather want to take the bus, then he might want to sell.. but I dint think it will be difficult to sell the car.
We at least love our EV, and use the bus lane perk very seldom, and we'r not the only ones.;-)
