Battery Pack

I noticed in your video that the battery pack on the Model S is mounted to the bottom of the car. How prone to damage is the battery pack. What if you hit a piece of car tire, some animal, or anything lying on the road. This happens all the time day and night. Battery packs could get very expensive.

By the same token, how many times have you punched a hole in your cars gas tank? It's a LOT more fragile than a battery pack is afterall.

Here is a related thread with a few vague answers:

Gas tank is usually in a lot better protected place between rear tires and way higher than battery is in Model S, so that is not very good comparison. Good question would be how many times you have hit center of your car bottom at something.

There is probably some sort of armor protecting the battery but how good it is, who knows.
