Factory tour and car pick up same day

Well I have to say I'm very impressed with my Tesla experience and I'm not the type of person who is usually impressed. Ordered my car August 19th picked it up September 13th. Did three test drives to lock in my options and George in the Burlingame store was awesome with info. The factory tour really is something I hope all Tesla owners get a chance to see. Now I can see why the car is a smart car. It was built in a smart way. When touring the factory our rep showed us new quality checks that were put into place. They have large computer screens about every 200 feet that shows the time each station is taking and if the computer or person sees any quality issues. We saw them pull two cars out of production because something was not right. Every station is calibrated before every shift. This is truly amazing that a company cares this much about its product. The car was delivered with 20 miles on it and a day later I have over 400 miles. Tesla grin indeed!

I would love to order a car in Portland and pick it up at the factory and take a tour.

They keep improving the manufacturing line - I'm pretty sure they didn't have those screens every 200 feet when I did the tour in March. Nice to hear.

@GDH
I think you have to pay CA sales tax if you do a factory delivery which is why I didn't go that route.

The factory tour is probably more impressive than the car itself.

That is correct, and it's very annoying. However, Tesla will be happy the schedule a tour for ou at another time.

@Sun - I'm guessing you haven't driven one yet?

@yoda
Wrong! I haven't seen the factory yet.

@shop
Our DS rep told us that they are constantly improving quality checks and that even from a week ago there have been more added. We also saw the cars lined up for EU shipping by city and the parts being built for EU cars. Was very modern and organized. Very impressed!

I did the tour on Aug 5th & didn't see the screens\monitors, sounds like a recent addition.

@Bighorn

That makes sense but doesn't the car have to be paid for before you picked it up?, if I paid for it in Oregon why would I have to pay Cali tax?

I guess I couldn't even get the car back to Oregon since there are not enough chargers yet.

I'm sorry, but paying CA taxes just to pick up the car at the factory seems odd. It doesn't make sense as CA dealers can provide a Temp Tag good for 90 days, thus allowing one to drive it to your home state, no?

Could someone please confirm as we were thinking of doing this for our next Tesla.

Thx.

CA is desperate for funds. No escape.
