mobile charger limited to 40 amps?

I visited the Tesla Store today to lust over their car, ask some questions, and generally soak up the environment - cool car!

Asking the helpful tesla store employee a question he commented that the mobile charger is limited to: 40 amps max draw for charging.

Is this correct. And if it is correct then it would be nearly pointless to install a plug in the garage with more than a 50 breaker (80% rule).

anyone have comments on this?

You need the dual chargers to charge above 40 amps, and then you need either a J1772 charger or a Tesla HPWC. It's correct the mobile charger won't charge above 40 amps (10kW).

With the twin charging system, and the high powered wall connector (HPWC), you would use 80 amp service. Click "go electric" above and go to the charging section.

Correction: you would INSTALL 100 AMP service...

Yes, if you want to use dual chargers at home, you will need either an HPWC or a high-current J1772 EVSE.

I don't know of any standard 240 volt plugs that can handle more than 50 Amps (40 Amps continuous). I suspect this is why Tesla's mobile connector is limited to 40 Amps continuous. There's no need.
If you want to charge at more than 40 Amps, you'll need the HPWC or 90 Amp J1772 (Clipper Creek makes one - we have it in our driveway) which, as others here have pointed out, can charge as high as 80 Amps and requires 100 Amp service in your house.
40 amps is sufficient. 80 amps can be nice but, IMHO, is mostly overkill at home.

Canada has now got the coast-to-coast Sun Country highway at 90A, paid for by local hospitality (tourist) companies at each locale. The demo car that did the first drive was a white Roadster.

About 32 sites, I believe, including a spur up to Whistler Ski resort.

I believe that Sun Country Highway is actually a charger manufacurer that is building and selling chargers to hotels, resturants etc. accross Canada.

Their web page list 40, 60 and 90 amp chargers, so not all the chargers shown on the map are 90s.

Still a great set up. We need to get them to promote there product here south of the border.

Looks like there are about 200 stations. But not specified anywhere what size, you're right.
