MS Plays Any Song You Ask For

There is a steady trickle of short videos Bloomberg is posting on their site daily, all of them seem to be portions of the same interview with Elon Musk conducted some time ago. The latest episode includes demonstration of car playing any song upon voice request:

Could any of the owners provide details on this function:
1. Is it part of an application (Slacker, Pandora, etc), or a part of proprietory Tesla Software?
2. How well does it work for less common requests?

Mine doesn't work exactly like the video. It processes the request and shows search results. Then you select the result you want and it begins to play via Slacker.

So if the requested song is not covered by Slacker licensing agreements this function does not work?

According to Elon, if it's on the Web, it will play.

I tested Slacker and was surprised that it would play current "Top of the Charts" songs that you would never get on Pandora (i.e. Thrift Shop). However, I also discovered that about half of the songs attempted would not play. For those requests Slacker would create a "station" (similar to Pandora) that would play similar songs or other songs by the same artist. Maybe I'm doing something wrong and it should work for all songs?

It seems as though Tesla is paying Slacker so that all of it's users have free access.

I'm guessing that the video is edited to cut out the brief period where the song appears on the screen and Elon taps it to start it playing. So far as I know, Slacker will not play a song without that extra step.

I wish it would just play. I don't like the extra confirmation where you have to tap the screen. Recognition is over 80% accurate, even better on more well known artists. I say just play and if it's wrong, I can stop it.

Last night was the first request it couldn't find for me out of 2 months of using the system.

Today I requested 1 Led Zeppelin song, 2 different AC/DC songs and 1 Rihanna song and it would not play any of them. The search field confirmed that it found the song I requested, however it chose to play a different song from the same artist in each of these cases. I did have about 5 other requests that were successful.

Maybe Tesla's premium Slacker account expired?

What level membership do you have with Slacker? On the web, in order to request an individual song you need a Premium membership. What membership level does the car require? Is the functionality different if you only have a Plus level membership instead of Premium?

I wonder if it would play those songs if you have a premium slacker account? Is anyone here using a premium account or is everyone using the account that came with the car?
