New order process

As I mentioned in another thread, I was told my car had been sent to the factory but I hadn't signed anything or "finalized". Tesla new purchase process removes the finalization process and there's no paperwork until the car is ready for delivery, so they are trying to streamline it. Just a heads up incase anyone else was wondering...

Good news is I was told my order is officially submitted and I should have it next month!

I never did understand the point of finalizing and e-signing everything only to have me sign in person when I took delivery. I guess if you back out they'll just use it as a service loaner if there's nobody else in line for it...

So what record of what you actually "ordered" will you have?

They send you a spec sheet with options, colors, pricing etc. It sounds like the new site will show it too.

@GeekEV - the point before was there was a long gap between placing the order and actually starting to build it, so they wanted to make sure the configuration you reserved is actually what you want to buy. There is now no reservation step, only placing an order, so it makes sense to drop that step.

Oh, I didn't notice/realize they had removed reservations and gone straight to ordering. That's great news!

Ordered my Tesla on March 19, 2013, with a delivery date on or about April 2013-May 2013. The status button on my Tesla page states ON HOLD. What does ON HOLD mean?

We ordered on 4/6. It was not an immediate order. The emailed messaged stated our order will go into production in a couple of weeks, so we would have time to make any changes before then. And, if we needed more time, we just needed to let them know. We have not finalized anything. And we did place a deposit down.

I have to admit, it is a bit frustrating to read about so many people that ordered their Tesla in the past few weeks/months that have delivery windows or even the car itself. I reserved in 2011, finalized in Dec2012, and I am still waiting for my VIN and delivery window. So much for paying $5,000 to be an early adopter. if my neighbor ordered my configuration today it would probably arrive on the same truck as mine. The only consolation is that mine should have less bugs when it arrives.
