I am bout to order a Model S. I want the panoramic roof, but live in Texas. Any thoughts if the brightness or the heat will make me regret choosing it?
I'll let you know next summer.
Live in Dallas - no problems all summer. Only heat issue is with kids seats.
Drove a pano roof all summer in Phoenix AZ ( March delivery S85 ). It lets in a little more heat when it's parked in the sun. I tinted the inside of mine with ceramic tint because I was worried about the AZ sun and heat.
I thought it would be a lot hotter problem than it turned out to be. Haven't had any issues with it letting in to much light. I ride motorcycles so I really like the open feel you get with the pano.
Only complaint is wind noise at higher speeds. There is no cover to slide over it to help muffle the noise. There is a service bulliten that improves the seal. I have not taken the time to get it done yet.
The pano must not be to bad in Arizona, I ordered a P85+ that delivers in two weeks and it will have a pano also.
Live in Houston, received my Model S in September. I was on the fence about the roof, but I'm SO glad I got it. I had to run the A/C decently hard for the back-seaters until I got solar adaptive tint installed. No problems now. The roof allows for much more headroom in the back, and it feels much less cramped. The sun coming through the roof isn't bright as it's so heavily tinted/shaded. I don't regret it at all, and it's one of the first things people notice when they get into the car. The only plus side for the solid roof versus the pano, in my opinion, is that you would have less wind noise at high speeds, but that's about it.
What tint did you get?
I'm in Georgia, it gets pretty hot in the sun here, too. Absolutely love the pano roof.
It's one of the signature features of the car. If you plan to put kids in the way back, then you should tint the rear window. Otherwise, it's fine.
I live in Memphis,Tn which has pretty hot and humid summers.
I had no problems with my pano roof this summer. I think the pano blocks the heat pretty well. I chose not to tint, and I don't think its necessary unless you have the rear facing seats.
Arizona here... not a problem at all.
Another vote to get it. I live in Arizona and even during the summer had no problems. As another person said, tinting the side and rear windows is a bigger issue than the roof.
Its especially nice now that the weather has turned cooler.
@Roamer What do you consider "high speeds" when the wind noise is sufficient to become a complaint? Hopefully this is well above normal highway cruising speeds of 60-65mph.
is there a special or different kind of tint you would use on the pano or just the same as the windows?
This is not like a regular sunroof. Very little heat gets in. No shade needed. Not too bright.
Sit in the back in cars that have the sun roof vs. those that don't--the 2 additional inches of headroom make a huge difference---get the sunroof
Thank you all. I live in Dallas and am 6' 4". What I gather is that the heat is not significant. And I will need the space for my head. I am about to hit "enter" on my order.
There is plenty of space in the frunk for your head, too. However, you will love the pano roof. Go for it.
Drove up and down the CA Central Valley all summer (100F + heat) with no problems with light or heat. You should definitely check our the window tinting options, though.
