Elon has at various times said he would like to produce a pickup truck. It would certainly be nice to have an alternative to the current fleet of diesel exhaust spewing pickups. Has anyone heard anything about what a Telsa pickup might be like?
I haven't heard that but I would be most interested in a Tesla pickup truck.
Look up 2016 Honda Ridgeline. Honda is skipping 2015. There are teaser photos that make it look good, unlike the terrible current design. It might also be a better as a truck.
A Tesla truck might be similar to this, although electric of course. I just don't see going up against the Big 3 with giant frame truck, at least at first..
After they have a Gigafactory or two up and running, Tesla Motors will be able to go after anyone in any market for any type of vehicle. I expect that a full-sized dually pickup with a 450 tow rating as a Class 4 vehicle would relieve all doubt as to what an electric truck could do, especially if it had a 300 mile range while towing at 55 MPH.
One really massive battery for that dually! At some point though, electric trucks of all sizes will be available. I think Tesla could do wonders with electrifying a UPS fleet in one city as a demonstration. There an overnight charge would be great, no special charging required, as the delivery vehicles don't required extraordinary range. In fact, relatively small batteries might be enough for that fleet.
In one of the Town forums, Elon was asked that question and he remarked that he would like to see one also. He had commented that he had driven an F-150 and saw a lot of room for improvement, especially mentioning to have active air suspension that would adjust from the weight difference of an unloaded bed to a loaded bed.
So I would imagine the first offering would be a F-150 size truck.
I'm sure it is not high on the priority list right now. But Elon is aware of it and expressed very favorable comments on bringing out a truck.
There is a very lengthy thread from earlier this tear in the subject of a Tesla Motors Pickup Truck:
Only $80M! A steal! Or is that "theft"?
