Rimac EV 0-60 mph in 2.8 Seconds

That is one cool looking $1 million electric toy. Impressive 0-60 in 2.8 seconds.

With a limited production of 88 cars, it is poised to dominate the world...

From an article on the owner and car:
"Its precocious 25-year-old inventor, Mate Rimac, says that the car produces 1018 horsepower, can accelerate from 0 to 100 kph (62 mph) in just 2.8 seconds, has a top speed of 305 kph (190 mph), and can travel 600 kilometers (372 miles) on a single charge."

I the video I saw the battery pack they show is relatively small volume, maybe 2ft x 1ft x 1 ft. I do not see any mention of the battery's capacity, or they got it so small.

Yeah, at $1 million/car I would rather have one Model S in every color.

Check that - I do see on their website the battery is 92 kW.

Where you find the price?

I see what they've done. They have several battery modules that can be packaged together.

92kWh in a 2 cubit foot battery? Volume of the 85kWh pack seems like it would be bigger than that.

Given the acceleration the power draw must be considerably higher than the MS - something like 6C.

Based on the horsepower, and assuming the efficiencies of the Rimac and Tesla motors are roughly equivalent (very little difference between electric motors which are very efficient), the Rimac must gulp power about 2.6 times faster than a model S. The power systems and motors must be pretty beefy.

Regardless, this continues to make the point that electrical drive vehicles have inherent advantages over ICEage vehicles. And that's a good thing.

I was curious about something, and it's going to take the mathematicians and autofreaks out there to get out the slide rules.

What is the practical upper limit for zero to 60 performance on a car? We don't want to turn the driver into hairy strawberry jam, spin the rims on the tires, dig holes in the concrete pavement, or launch it off an aircraft carrier. I'm assuming 4 wheels on the ground and a human behind the wheel. Limited contact areas between the tire and pavement seem to be the gating factor. Or between the wheel and tire at the rim. What's the upper limit for minimum 0 to 60 times?

Per wikipedia, the F1 2006 Renault R26 has a 0-62 time of 1.7 second and 0-124 time of 3.8 seconds. With big, sticky racing tires and a car that weighs less than 1/3 of a Tesla.

Top fuel dragsters do about 0 to 300 mph in about 4 seconds. That is with tires on pavement and human driver. Also about 7000 HP. That is about the limit now, not for street use though. About 0.8 seconds 0 to 60.

A Bugatti will do 0-60 in 2.6 seconds and that is an AWD car. The thing you have to remember is that one has to have the room to do these hole shots. You certainly shouldn't be trying to that type of acceleration in a conjested area. We have all been there when we heard a car accelerating real hard/fast. We look up and see where the noise is coming from. With the MS being absolutely silent (the other driver's ears) when accelerating hard, things could get ugly. The 0-60 time is truely impressive, just as the top speed of a Bugatti is, but where the hell are you going to do 267 miles per hour?

People who buy those cars will never do 0-60 or top speed. Many probably will never even drive it.

I am honestly surprised so many EV enthusiasts on this forum have never heard of the Rimac Concept One until CNN ran the story this week.

Yeah, it's been around for a while, ConceptOne was first made in 2012.

One module has 3.84 kWh so you need 24 modules for the 92kWh battery. Nice car, but not for the rich, just the ueber rich.

The battery pack is most likely 33 kwh not 92 kwh, as the Concept One has nine 3.64 kwh Rimac battery modules(3 in the center tunnel and 6 behind the driver and passenger in the bulkhead, as can be seen on the pictures at Rimac´s homepage.

Also, the specs on the Volar-E in the article below confirms the same, as it officially has 38 kwh.

The Volar-E seems to be fully based on the Concept One, with minor styling changes. It seems to be the same car as the Concept One in all technical aspects. The article below also gets it wrong - that the Volar-E is smaller than The Concept One and that it does not share the same steel tubular chassis as the Concept One prototype has. There has been no sign of a Carbon Monocoque from Rimac yet.

This is quite old news. Concept One car is not a concept car but a real car produced in Croatia and costs $980,000. Its battery capacity is 91kWh of some kind of LiFePO4 chemistry. It's capable of 100kW DC fast charging, though they do not mention what protocol/standard it uses.

Maybe just enabling SuperChargers to it would be sufficient :-D
But that is probably not real, since Rimac is using much higher Voltage (650V nominal) than Tesla...

It's basically a hand built high powered go kart. It would be fun for a little while, but something few people would be comfortable driving any distance. And reliability, who knows?

Are there any dyno tests of the car? Independent?
Some of the shafts seem like they couldn't handle
the torque stated and the battery capacity also
appears very much overstated. It is great that it
is "available" and it looks great but a lot if it
sounds like a marketing version of cooking numbers.

Several things don't appear to add up.

i don't think the car is built right, if you look at a lot of the driving videos and it features the owner, look at his head, it is up against the roof with zero clearance.

as i've said this before, the roadster has a 53kwh battery and it can travel 245 miles rated. tesla can double the kwh in the same form factor by using higher capacity cells, this would give the roaster a ~100kwh and ~500 miles rated, this is ~800 km rated!

by the way no one knows what is the rated miles on the rimac because it hasn't been tested. but i doubt it is what they claim.

Also Volar-E (concept car) is build on it.

600km (500km realistic) is really achivable with 91kWh battery. When driven conservatively Model S which is heavier and bigger car can go 500km, even more if driven slowly. (http://www.rimac-automobili.com/concept_one/specifications-10)

it could use better traction control for sure, but it's fast!

From what I read and was told, that Spanish company paid for the car, so they entered it into a government incentive program, to get 3 million out, as if it was their product, and are being investigated now..

So they basically did it as a scam..
