Should Elon do Tesla presentations?

I love the kid... obviously he's genius and have accomplished more than just about anyone in modern day history... but his presentations and unveiling of Model X and tonight's SuperCharger really sucks!!

Why not have George Blankenship rehearse these presentations?

Also, He Da Man. If he decides to do X, the chances are very high Tesla (&/or SpaceX &/or Solar City) will shortly be working on X. GB, not so much.

The 40 kwh battery option is for people who only want to tool around town, not go between cities.

Anything less than 200 mile range is for that. That's pretty common sense. Even if you could recharge every 100 miles, would you want to? Even if it takes 10 minutes to do that (+another 5 minutes to pay etc.)?

Lets say you take 300 mile round trip to a meeting in middle of nowhere, 150 miles each way. You don't want to do full recharge (range mode) to prevent damage to battery and you want to keep a healthy safety margin, so lets make 80% of 160 mile of 40kWh battery range. That's recharging every 128 miles. Can't make full stretch 150 mile without charging, so you start to look at recharging point at somewhere around 100 mile mark. That's then at last two recharges for this short trip + one full at home. Four if you can charge at your destination (and then your home charging would be less).

Not my kind of driving. Also supercharger every 100 miles will not happen in near future, so charging would be a slow one even if there were supercharger capability with 40kWh Model S.

40kWh Model S is Nissan Leaf in Jaguar clothes for practicality in long range driving. You just plain need bigger battery to make long range driving practical.

Elon any day

its his company, he has the credibility.
GB is far too slick/loud (for non US viewers at least)

Elon gets my vote too. There is something ...how to put it... "right", in his presentations. They do not feel like TV commercials. Some stutter and some "politically incorrect" straight words make him sound sincere and not some corporate puppet or snake oil salesman.

The "supercharging damage to battery" meme seems to continue haunting postumously. http://www.teslamotors.com/forum/forums/no-limits-supercharge-cycles
Overcharging is a problem. Supercharging is not.

I'm kinda split on Elons shows. On the one hand, it's more authentic hearing/seeing him stumble his way through presentations. It implies humility "I know I'm not the best at everything, but I will do my best and improve each time I try".
On the other hand sometimes the audience doesn't know how to react at times. There have been a couple of times where Elon made a mild joke or pun, but the majority of the audience missed it and there was a silent gap where Elon was waiting for a response. Seeing what Elon does in these presentations, I'm left wondering if he's trying to follow a script/prompter or if he makes it up off the cuff as he goes along. My suggestion would be a few rehearsals if Elon can spare the time (unlikely given his workload ;D )

olanmills -- I don't care if Tesla is not that good at dropping a curtain or whatever, and I don't think it means much of anything in terms of their engineering and business capability.

Right. It's similar to when I see a really slick website for a non-tech company--for instance, a landscaping service. It make me wonder what their expertise actually is.
