Touchscreen

Okay,
The center console touchscreen is user friendly, innovative, functional, etc... but, as far as I can tell it's still a computer, and I'm wondering what might happen if a can of soda, bottle of water, or any liquid explodes and contacts the screen.
Also, I wonder about condensation? It just seems to be pretty much "the brains" of the vehicle, and I'd hate to go "dead" because of 1.99 bottle of water spilling along the base of the screen. Yikes!

Like with all the other GPS systems in cars:

"Doctor, it hurts when I do this." "Then don't do that!"

Do know that happens if you spill coffee down the air vents of a Mercedes? You fry your $$$$ stereo and NAV system.

Like EdG said, DON'T DO THAT!

The center console does not control vital functions of the cars drive line, it only sends and reads comands to the cars real computer. So if you are driving and are spilling a cup of cola on the screen, I guess you might end up with a broken display/mid console computer
But your car will still drive, both gas and break pedal will still function. Though I'm not shure if you are able to look the doors, og close the sun roof :)

Touchscreen shouldn't need to be hardwired to the actual processing (or stereo) components of the car. Could just tuck that stuff safely into a section of the cooled battery pack if they really wanted to do something relatively safe from wild animals in the cockpit. ;)

But you should prolly be careful around it anyway. I doubt the whole rig is off the shelf components you could swing by your local car stereo shop to replace. It will be interesting to learn what they do!

I was not at the Model S Beta Ride Event and wonder how does the screen perform. If the sunlight comes directly on the display, can I still see anything?

I was at the event and rode at the very beginning (around 5:15) in bright sunlight. Glare wasn't even an issue.

As Elon says, compared to a laptop or tablet, the 'S' has unlimited power to drive the screen brightness.
