Excuse me for shouting, but would anyone discussing extreme complaints about their Model S or dealings with Tesla please make the thread private.

That should eliminate any suspicion of trolling, and let the rest of us take your complaint seriously.

It's easy to make it private.

This time I will do a double post with the duplicate being private.

They should make it both private and public. I don't think it is right to hide legitimate issues from potential new buyers. But they should make their post private too so we can be sure they are not frauds who have ulterior motives contrary to the best interest of the public.

The forum really should have a way of verifying whether a post was from a verified owner. So potential buyers like me can seperate possible trolling from legit complaints.

Most of what I've seen here has been legit complaints regarding issues that one expects from a car so new. Things like the Pano-roof noise, or the extreme tire wear. Things that have and will be fixed as time goes on, but will irk those impacted by them.

I posted this in another thread, but I can't access anything private and I am an owner.

GReese, contact Tesla, they will fix for you.

I have, and they haven't.

The issue is that there's no correlation between their owner database and their forums. It is some kind of manual process, and there's a huge disconnect between delivery and the IT team. At least, that's how I understand it.

At TMC there has been an increase in phony complaint posts. For example, a user claimed to be from California but the IP was traced to China.

We don't have a good tool box. That is the shortcoming of this forum being self-moderated by its members. All we have is private threads and flags. We just have to use our best judgement.

Everyone here really wants to help.

I've only been on the forum a few months, and I appreciate this calm discussion about the self-moderating issue. The problem is that there is a desire to call out trolls, but that's what trolls are trying to achieve.

In the future, I'll ask them to post duplicates as private.

I've been pushing the point for some time. Why not just give owners a badge? Or, make the forums view only for non-owners. I find it incredibly suspect that, immediately after a major announcement by Tesla, the public forum is flooded with all caps complaints about the car, while there is little such action in the private forum...Odd, at best.

@GReese - I used the contact page, "My existing reservation" topic link to send in a note regarding access. It had a 24-hr turnaround. I believe the email was routed to the 'ownership experience' representatives. I can see how access to forums and 'my existing reservation' isn't exactly a confidence-inspiring match though. Worked great though.

@michael1800 I have asked through that mechanism, emails to my DS, my local service rep, and a call to the 877 number. None of those have been fruitful.

I am an owner and can't do a private thread either. Those of you who can, did it happen automatically or did you do something to activate it?

I emailed Tesla, was called back and it was setup in 12hrs.

In think the private approach is not a good idea. A would like to press TM to attach to every poster id the 'owner' word if he/she is an owner of a car. We have nothing to hide, so the prospect buyer can read all the posts...

Granted that would be a probably better way to do it. However, the history of this site is such that I would never expect it to happen.
E.g., all the requests for a search function hasn't gained any traction for the site.

A perhaps easier way would to be to create a private thread listing the names of all owner/reservation holder members. Then if there is any doubt, one could look up the names on that list.

With search or not, this will not create any harm to the company. But trolling is a real threat, it is worth than a bad article in NYT! The goal is to eliminate the prospect buyers. I don't think TM know the danger of it. As a owner and investor( I risk 90k+ by buying this car) I hate to see this company fail for ignoring this treat.

I believe an "owner badge" can only be done in an optional opt-in and opt-out basis for legal reasons. In other words, it has to be set so an "ownership badge" will be shown if the poster wants to reveal that information. This is due to privacy laws..

I think the self-righteous witch hunters are more of a danger.

What I was proposing was just a start point. I try to find a solution to the problem. Once we agree, we can pesent to the high level management when they will meet with us. I still beleave that the person who is assign to monitor the forum( all the companies have one these days) is sleeping on the wheel!

Bravo, we are making progress! There will not be dificult for a programmer to add a field to every login stated that you want or not to be seen as a owner. But TM should also add a message at the beginning of the forum stated that all the problems reported by a non-owner writer should be regarded as an entretainment, fiction stories. I think this is legal because an english judge declared the trashing of TM by a car show as entretainment, it was not a real thing! Any layer on this thread?

@Eleonor2002...to be honest with you I don't think Tesla is worried about "Trolls" because for every bull there r 100 legitimate posts which expose their hard-to-tell-straight stories...
