Man! just looking at that count down with 7 days less than the last time I saw it.... it's so exciting!

it's unbelievible...this kind of countdown tops the applestyle of keynote... they push it from week to week

What sucks is I will be in Portland from July 26th to August 4th and wouldn't you know it, the test drive cars leave Portland when I arrive and Chicago starts up (my usual visiting spot) and ends in before I get home.
I am going to call the Portland Tesla and see if they can keep a car for a few days! :-o

The "surprises" being released each week now are simply not surprises. It is an indication of how accepting most forum readers are of this vehicle and its patent faults/omissions that people are as accepting of them as such. i am as keen on this vehicle as anyone, but frankly, test drives should have been provided BEFORE orders were taken. All colours should have been available to view also. There is much confusion as to whether previously touted colours remain the same now in the release versions. Why? This should have been cleared up long ago. Release candidate vehicles were never shown, including up to the present - only beta's. Not even today are release vehicles on this website - and at least 2 street-legal cars are known to have been delivered. People are asking about things like parcel shelves, rear seat configuration, whether they fold flat, and so forth - all this is available now and has been for quite a while given the two deliveries, and really should be in the gallery. Even now, there is doubt about the 19 inch aero wheels. It is still in deign studio and there has been no deletion or revision. Removal of banana leaf was almost clandestine! Making excuses for the company in their rush to deliver on a specific date is not good enough. If you make a promise and want to keep to a schedule, well then, employ enough staff to cope with the issues.
Regarding things such as aero wheels, centre console, other storage such as in the doors, mobile app, state of the software on the vital 17 inch screen and a host of things i probably have not thought of, the state of play on each of these should be published, even if only on confidential emails to all reservation holders. Perhaps some of these things are very complex and taking the whole time line into consideration the time is just too short - I accept that - BUT, be up front with those who have already put down a great deal of cold hard!!! They know darn well what the issues are, even a cursory glance through this forum and TMC would tell them that! They apparently do monitor these forums, so where is the issue?
A more accurate time line now for European left hand drive, and rest of world Right hand drive vehicles also now needs to be nailed down and disclosed - even if confidentially. They know what the ramp up is going to be. Deliveries for next week and beyond have already been built!! Parts are continuing to be stamped and drive trains made, and probably have been over the past few months. They also know the capacities of third party suppliers.
Time for us all to be just a little less accepting, bearing in mind the price of this vehicle - nearly 100k for most in the USA, and probably a lot more internationally!!!

A lot of this has to do with the very tight, almost unheard-of, time schedule for the design, tooling, construction, and delivery. To address just one of your 'points':

Illegal. Only street-approved vehicles can be used by non-employees. That process was moved along as fast as possible, but has just been completed. Your "demand" would have meant no reservations whatsoever until now.

You should definitely not be a "first adopter". Probably a year or two wait would suit your mentality much better.

I disagree with you. In my opinion Tesla has been more forthcoming than any other car company in the past showing, explaining, tweaking, growing, and DELIVERING. Yes it is expensive. Yes we don't have every detail. Only sig holders( early adopters all) have been asked to agree before a test drive. This will not be true for any p reservations.
Tesla is doing more than I expected they could more than three years ago when I made an unsecured deposit.

I don't think that you like the new paradigm that Tesla is inventing. I do. Taste is subjective.

@dborn I know it is frustrating, but Tesla has to thread a fine line between giving out information and operating in a very regulated environment. In addition to test drive limitations, even announcements have to be carefully vetted. Regulatory bodies may not take kindly to Tesla saying "we'll have the car out on X date" when there are still miles to go on the remaining tests. I can certainly see scenarios where Tesla would want to avoid poking the bear if they don't have to. There may other times (for instance, antiquated dealership rules) where they ultimately need to poke the bear and litigate to bring the industry into modern times. Last, you mention "confidential emails", but I think every Tesla employee knows at this point anything they send by email (or say at a Tesla store or event) could be in the forums by the next day, if not within the hour.
