They should get a RAISE! I had concerns about the suspension compliance and the active air after two different test drives. The Pilots fixed my concerns and the car is fantastic.

I'm still waiting for my performance wheels (the Continentals have been back ordered for about a month). I was told the Pilots will be on the 2013 performance wheels (I was at the Tesla service center today).

Glad to hear you are pleased with your Pilots. I just ordered eight 19 inch rims and Pilots and W60 Blizzaks from Tire Rack (Tesla had neither) and Tesla is installing the pressure transducers in the Blizzaks in Chicago. Don't plan on driving on the 21 inch Continentals if you are driving in Wisconsin, UP Michigan, and Minnesota or similar weather in Winter.

In explanation, I've never been a fan of MB active air suspension. Tesla's shock valving increases damping over the MB (E63 for example) but still left me wishing the car had a more planted feel. My opinion was based on two limited test drives with neither car having the Pilots. I picked my car up today and was pleasantly surprised at the feel and am a happy camper.

Which tires are you talking about? The Michelin Pilot Sport PS2?
or some other tire? Those are almost twice the price of the Continental ExtremeContact DW are they worth the difference on the 21" rims? And are the tires from tire rack going to be the same as the tires Tesla puts on the new P85s?

I've not looked for the PS2 logo so can not say. Yes, they are expensive which is why I normally replace OEM with Nitto as they are a better value for my needs.
It would be awesome if Michelin were to offer our size in PS2 ZP variety. These newer gen run flats are actually pretty nice and don't compromise nearly as much as the old ones did in terms of performance and ride compliance.
I am willing to live with the lack of support for a flat tire on the road and have done this with performance cars I have owned but I really like driving my model S everywhere and would love to have a little more robustness in handling flat tires.
I had a flat on I880 a few weeks ago and the roadside service was responsive (and I was actually only 10 miles from the Tesla factory) but it was still a pain to lose two hours and would be a much bigger pain if I were in the middle of nowhere and needed to have my car loaded onto a flatbed truck because of a flat. I much prefer just driving to a tire store to have the flat repaired.
Just checked TireRack and it looks like maybe Pirelli offers the 21" size in a run flat. Has anyone tried P Zero Run Flats on a Model S Performance? Would love to hear any feedback on ride and performance.
So do you see a range drop vs other with the continentals? I think the pilots would be stickier right?
The RFs tend to be much heavier so I would fear reduced ride quality. This should be less of a problem given the weight of Model S.
