Elon musk on Europe SC rollout, 135 kW increase, Android apps and Google Chrome browser

This is awesome news!

www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdE9o51_P_4&feature=youtu.be&a

Here are the highlights as far as I noted:

- SuperCharger rollout will be accelerated and cover 50% of EU by March '14, 100% by end of year
- SuperCharger throttled to 135 kW
- 17" screen will take Android apps via an emulator later in '14
- Native browser will be swapped with Google Chrome (hopefully this means flash and video supported too)
- Navigation updated to make the fastest route including SuperChargers (Elon even bragged that it will take windspeed into account)
- There will be a free High Speed Performance Upgrade for the German Autobahn (also available as retrofit)
- Until end of 2014 there will be 30 - 40 SuperCharger in Germany
- Power folding mirrors can be retrofit
- German cars will be upgraded for Autobahn speeds for free

Sorry apparently he says:
- SuperChargers will have 135kW

And also says:
- there will be a free High Speed Performance Upgrade for the German Autobahn (also available as retrofit)
- until end of 2014 there will be 30 - 40 SuperCharger in Germany
- power folding mirrors can be retrofit

Also found a much better video:

but still inclomplete, can somebody find whole video?

@Supergaard

Thanks so much for the summary and link.

While he US will have 120 kWh superchargers protocol implemented (US 120 kWh superchargers are there but no one seems to be able to charge beyond 90 kWh just yet), how can German will surpass 120 kWh and will get 135 kWh?

What are restrictions that make 135 kWh announcement not possible for the US?

Tam
it is 90/120/135 kW!
kW not kWh!!
kW is unit of power, kWh is unit of energy capacity
so you are charging by 120kW and battery has capacity of 85kWh, it is not so difficult to remember...

Tam I assume two aspects different here are the Type 2 charge socket the EU Model S has as well as the much better power grid. Might be easier to get power to the Superchargers and less "fantasies" about solar panels supplying the power as we just don't have enough sun sadly. So I speculate that the Superchargers are planned from the beginning for more outside power... and while designing a new socket anyway Tesla might have designed it for more DC power, it has more pins, etc.

Glad to hear about all that stuff, especially Chrome and Android apps.

@Jolinar

Thanks for a refreshing reminder on power and capacity!

@RZippel

Thanks for the explanation.

By the way, about the Solar Energy per wikipedia:

The US: 6.4 million megawatt-hours 0.16% of total US electricity.

Germany: 18 TWh (billion kilowatt-hours) of electricity in 2011, about 3% of total electricity.

I assume in winter, Germany has less sunshine than many areas in the US that don't snow (Southern California...)

Solar seems to be an achievable goal in the US if there is a will.

"SuperCharger rollout will be accelerated and cover 50% of EU by March '14, 100% by end of year"

EU is not correct - he said Germany. Europe is the same size as the US, EU about 2/3.
