I am interested in hearing from owners about Tesla's attempts to fix glitches and problems that they have had with their Model S.
-What was the problem?
-How long did it take to get fixed?
-How was your customer service experience?
-Did the fix work?
ect...
I initially had a problem where the ambient light in my driver's side door was not illuminating. I do not use the ambient lights (mostly, due to the buzzing that occurs if you have the screen dimmed below 90%), but it bothered me that the lights on the driver door were not lit. I took it to the Chicago service center, and they were able to fix it within about 10 minutes. Apparently, the light was not connected inside the door.
I was also having an issue with the TPM system repeatedly giving false positives that the tire pressure was low, or that the TPM system needs service. The tech who had the "tool" to recalibrate the system was at a customer site when I was at the service center, so he stopped by my house to apply the fix. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to have fully corrected the problem, as I still periodically get false positives due to cold.
Those are the only glitches I've experienced so far... aside from not having received either of the 4.x updates yet.
msh;
false positives due to cold aren't really false, of course. The cold air shrinks! I think the tire pressure, before driving, is supposed to be increased to compensate. Check on that.
Understood... but I believe their TPM calibration was supposed to factor in external temperature when reporting the tire pressure (e.g., if the temp is 20F, they should be able to figure out what the "expected" pressure drop is, and not report it as being low). Of course, this would also be addressed if they implemented the requested reporting individual tire pressures on the main screen.
I'm less concerned about the false/expected tire pressure warnings in the cold, but more concerned with the message that the TPM system seeds service.
@mkh1437 - FWIW, every car I have ever had with TPM shows the tire pressure as low when it is cold and the message goes away after you drive a bit. I expected no different with the Model S, though I haven't seen it yet (it hasn't been much below 40F yet).
Does the car know which tire is low and what the actual pressure is? If so, this would be nice to see on the screen somewhere.
@sbrizius we do not know for sure, but I think it is safe to assume that the TPM system could know which tires are showing low pressure. There is a high ranked item on the Prioritized Software Enhancement List (http://www.teslamotors.com/forum/forums/prioritized-software-enhancement...) requesting this functionality.
It is wise in colder climates to adjust tire pressure during cold months. This is not new, hot air expands, cold air contracts. Seasonally adjusting tire pressure is something you "should" be doing anyway on ANY car.
The day/night sensor on the headlights seem off. I have it on "Auto" and it is on even in broad daylight.
My charging cable was no longer working, at first I thought it may have been something electrical from my house, but after some tests I was pretty sure it was the charger cable.
Guys from Tesla came to my house the next day and swapped it out for a new one. Couldn't have had better service.
Drivers side door handle malfunctioning . Sometimes it comes out with no light and does not allow the door to open.
Superliner +1
The problem in many locales is the 'tween months, when you can have 4 seasons in the course of 10 days! ;)
@BrianH
Lived there, done that. The answer is keep your inflation pressures slightly above mfg recommended and less than the "max press" as indicated on the tire itself. This practice will "usually" eliminate tpm system warnings and will likely result in improved tire wear and lower rolling resistance to boot which is a plus for any car but BEV's in particular.
I has the TPM system message this eve toward the end of a long drive (first time to a Supercharger!). I'll check the pressure in the am, but the message was for the system, not for the pressure. Plan to call the service center to check.
Whoops..."had"
haz? LOL(speak)
