Can any of you Roadster owners tell me how long your power cable is? As I look over the Model S prices I wonder if I'll need to buy the wall charger, but a 240V dryer outlet extension cord or make do with what Tesla gives me.
I was told at the Factory event that the included cable with NEMA 14-50 on one end and special Tela plug on the other would be 25ft. Also was told not to use an extension of any kind. I installed my new circuit accordingly.
Thanks. Very helpful info. Anybody know the length of the High Power Wall Connector cord? I am hoping > 25ft...
Called about the high power wall connector, trying to get specs for my electrician. Was told that they wouldn't have them "for a while" whatever that means.
Thanks, Thumper. I'm hoping to semi-attach the charge cable over the rafters of my garage to keep them off the floor. 25' just may do that.
It just occurred to me that since Tesla located the socket for the plug in the driver's side tail light, there's absolutely no chance that I will forget that I'm tethered and try to drive the car away before disconnecting. I'll bet you that some Leaf owners have tried to do that already.
I wonder if Tesla has inhibited the car from moving while tethered?
The Roadster will not allow the car to move if the chart port door is open. I'm sure the Model S will be the same.
At the risk of being paranoid, but as a city dweller, this really concerns me. An easy bit of vandalism -- snapping the charge port door off while the vehicle is plugged in -- can disable me from driving the car? If so, please provide some manual override.
Manual override -- the handyman's secret weapon, duct tape!
