Paint Armor

I know there is another thread about this subject but it deals with how paint armor looks.

My question is who as gotten the MS recently (since the beginning of 2013) and did they get door edge guards.

My MS came with the paint armor but no coverage on the door edges. According to a drawing of TM Starshield coverage chart there should be door edge guards on all 4 doors. The door edges are the most likely place your car is going to contact another car, shopping cart, etc.

I've had paint armor on the last 3 cars I've owned and the kits the installer used all came with door edge guards.

So, if your MS was ordered with Paint Armor, did yours come with it?

Just a note, I noted my concern on the action item list at time of delivery. I called yesterday for a status and was told it would be escalated to Service for resolution. If TM doesn't come through I'm heading to my independent installer for door edge guards.

Received my MS 3 weeks ago with paint armor - and no coverage on the door edges.

The partial front hood armor is pretty visible on my silver MS - the one item everyone comments about when they see the car.

I want to get full hood coverage on the front hood - which Tesla should offer for all of their cars (even if it costs more).

I'm trying to get TM to just do the door edges and doubt they'll come through.

I've had several cars with armor and none of them have had full front end coverage. If you really want full coverage I'd suggest going to an independent installer. If you live in the Bay Area I can give you a recommendation.

Houston area - I saw someone post that Tesla might be considering full hood - and at least one of the Service Centers might be doing it - so I'm going to hold off for a little while and see if anything happens before doing it on my own.

For a $100K P85 - seems a little odd that Tesla doesn't offer the full hood treatment - even if it cost a little more...

Not all films are available in 60" widths that I think is necessary for the hood. But agree there's no reason why TM can't use a film that's available in that width.

@lov2krz, I could use a good reference. Premiere Paint Protection is 1 exit North from the factory but they are quoting $8000 for bumper to bumper (they provide a la carte options as well).

Ir, Give Gregg Sims at Force Field at forcefield@pacbell.net a try. His business number is 408-691-6791

Please note that full bumper to bumper isn't a standard factory (3M etc) kit so it's custom cut.,

According to a drawing of TM Starshield coverage chart there should be door edge guards on all 4 doors.

I'm not sure where you're seeing that. Protection for the door sills is listed, which is really below the door sills, on the outsidem of course. That's present on my car.

olanmills, if I could post a photo of the Starshield drawing I have I would, which I got from my delivery specialist. The Starshield drawing is slightly different than what is listed in TM's accessory photo on their website because it includes door edge guards.

Regardless, I have never seen a paint armor kit (I've had them on my last 3 cars) that does not provide door edge coverage.

I just got an email from Luke at TM. He states:

I’ve been told the door edge paint armor was discontinued, only included for signature Model S. The Paint Armor spec that’s on our shop page is the accurate installation— Paint Armor . We are using Avery Nano Fusion Film, so contacting them directly for after-market paint armor would be the best option.

Guess that answers my question. I'll be going after market.
