Does anyone know if Tesla will be selling a car cover and what it will cost.
They do sell a car cover for the Roadster at $349. http://shop.teslamotors.com/collections/roadster-functional/products/tes...
I can only guess but I don't expect that they will forgo this additional business opportunity. Interesting: "Please note, this is a dust cover designed for use in dry environments." I'm not sure if that's exactly what you want.
I used a cover on a vehicle once and never again.
I would say OK if in a garage and rarely used. Otherwise bad idea.
What kind of problems did you run into with the cover? Minor scratching? I was considering it but won't if there are problems!
No burka on my Model S. I want everyone to be able to admire her!
I have used a cover which was a bit more than just dust cover and it did what it was supposed to do just well, but OTOH car that I was driving at that time was old and "seen the world" a bit more than it was supposed to (looked like something you could have found on Mad Max), so I would not have noticed tiny scratches here or there.
I worked for three years at an installation where my car was parked in the blistering southwest sun for 9 hours a day. I used one of those car covers that was a close nit cloth broad weave, and I have to say it really saved the paint job from oxidizing, and spared the dash and leather interior from direct sunlight. Went through three covers in that time due to the UV rotting effect on the cloth, but it was well worth it. The downside is that it does pass a little dust and is not waterproof. My S will be garaged most of the time, but I will still get a cover to spare all the cabin electronics when parked in the sun. Yes, I know I can just use the A/C to keep the car cool while parked, but unless I'm plugged in while parked, I won't use the juice and a cover will still spare the interior from the UVs. Too big of an investment to do otherwise :)
The Model S won't even remotely fit in my garage so I was thinking of using a cover instead.
My experience was this:
1st issue: Had a premium cover. When it rained, the wet cover settled on the hood and seemed to mar the finish.
2nd issue: Wind .... when the wind blew, the cover would rub in several areas and eventually gave a "perpetually rubbed" appearance on those areas .... not a blatant marring ... but enough for me to toss that thing in the trash.
Just my experience.
