Rear - Driver side seatbelt Not usable...

Since I've had the car, the rear-driver side seatbelt just doesn't retract. The Fremont service center says it's a D-ring issue and a problem with all the cars. It just seems that the supplier quality may not be up to par.

1. for 100k car, you should not have this issue, it should be quickly replaced
2. this is a safety/convenience issue as my little ones can't pull the seatbelt around the booster seat

I'm amazed that such a little thing like this would have passed quality control AND there is not replacement to this situation.

Anyone else have this issue w/ the seat belt having a hard time to pulling it out and retracting?

It is very sensitive to the angle that you pull at. If you try to pull it towards the front of the car it may snag. Try pulling it so it is perpendicular to the slot it is coming out of - i.e. if it is the rear drivers side, try pulling it towards the passenger door, in other words across the car at 45deg, towards the clip receiver.

@nickjhowe

thanks.

Hmm. hard when you have a booster seat there.
Never had this issue w/ any car I've had but that really needs to be fixed!

It also has issues retracting.

huh? It can't be a problem with all cars, mine works fine, and I think this is the first time I saw this mentioned.

I had this very problem happen to me during the Get Amp Tour test drive. I figured they would fix it in the production model... I guess not.

From what portia has indicated it's time to call someone besides the Fremont service center because it's not an issue in all cars. Wish I had mine, I'd go check and let you know.

There was a topic posted about ignoring what the reps say in general because they all have different answers.... not that I can find it, there is no search engine. It almost seems easier to come here first and ask for the general consensus from owners first.

Just use www.volkerize.com if you want to search this forum. It works great.

Picked up our Model S three weeks ago and have the exact same problem with my son trying to pull the belt out and buckle up in his booster seat.

The only easy way to get the belt to come out is to pull it up and out (vs. just forward as you would sitting in the seat) which requires assistance.....every time. Let's hope they figure out a fix soon, it's on my list.

If you want to search TM's whole site, use any search engine with site:www.teslamotors.com/ in the search field.

I'm going in today (Monday), will ask again. the head service guy was the one that said it was an issue.

I'm starting to suspect that their suppliers aren't keeping up w/ parts and that's why nothing is addressed in time.

Yeah, JIT (Just In Time) manufacture, with inventory arriving as needed and not stockpiled, is tough that way. Another benefit of vertical integration is avoiding "failure to deliver".

Was down at the service center today and there is definitely a difference between my left and right rear seat belts. Drivers side runs fairly freely; passenger side drags. The've added it to the punch list for my car.

My 6 1/2 year old daughter has trouble unbuckling in the Model S but she totally can not buckle up in the car because her booster seat scoots over infront of the buckle. To be fair we have the same issue in our Volvo V50, but she had no problems in the Prius that we are replacing. I'm hoping to just find a good belt buckle extender that works for the Model S. I'm going to start another thread shortly as I can't find any documentation online about what seatbelt extensions/extenders will work with the Model S.
