RFID transponder

Hi,
I've not been able to get my community RFID transponder to work through the windshield. We tried placing it in the black dotted area to the right of the rear-view mirror, beneath the rear-view mirror and to the right of the black dotted area. Any suggestions? My community is a little annoyed with me because I've now wasted 3 transponders.
Thanks!
Jenn

Don't know what else to tell you. I had the same problem with my i-Pass toll transponder, but it started working once I positioned it in the black-dotted area next to the mirror. The area might not be big enough, so you might try re-positioning it within that area. If that doesn't work, what about maybe putting it in the frunk? Not sure if that would be any better than the shielded windshield.

If you have the detectors overhead, try under the front edge of the pano roof, under the pop up wind screen. You can try it out before you stick it down.

My ez-pass works, but not all the time in the hatched area. I think it depends on where the detectors are. You have to play with the position.

Backside of the rear view mirror? That should have clear view ahead. If the glass is enough to block it I'm not sure it would work anywhere inside of the car.

Went to have my toll rfid transponder installed. Would not work anywhere on inside of windshield. They finally had to mount a liscense plate transponder underneath the passenger windshield wiper on the outside of the windshield for it to work. Will radar detectors work through this windshield? By the way have the same problem with transponders with my Bentley windhield also.

Tesla needs to issue a small vial of windshield coating removal salve, all 'round. This is beyond a nuisance.

put it behind the nose cone. it works in wa with the good to go pass. I mounted the lic plate transponder in this manner.

@ robert27

Do you have a pic of where you mounted the license plate transponder? You say it is behind the nose cone...so you can not see it from the outside? Any way of turning the transponder "off" when driving in HOV or HOT lanes with 2 or more people in the car?

@robert27 - that's an interesting idea! Did you have to take off the cone first to install? Are transponders weather-proof? Yes, a pic would be great, if not too much trouble. Thanks.

@robert27, did you do it or did you have the service center do it? Also, is the license plate transponder different from the removable (Velcro attached) pass? Would the removable one work in that location?

The battery in my Fastpass transponder has been dead for years on my Prius. I've never had a problem. I just drive through the bridges and they still manage to bill me.
