Extended Nappa leather and Alcantera headliner..."Yeah" or "Meh"?

Any real value, other than looks, that is, re the extended Nappa leather and Alcantera headliner?

Richard

Alcantara: It is antistatic, durable, easy to clean, breathable, elastic, non-allergenic, anti-slip and maintenance free except for a possibly necessary cleaning.

Pigmented Nappa leather: It is organic, has a uniform appearance, is less breathable, but less sensitive to use and easy to maintain. All together makes it more convenient, and you'll feel more comfortable.

Both were a big MEH to me. With the pano roof option the amount of headliner was negligible. And for the extended leather option there was some extra leather on the doors and the dash was leather. The leather dash may be more prone to wear and cracking and me need more care than the very nice substitute.

I bought a new laptop with the money saved from those two options.

I passed on both as well for my P85, surprisingly on advice from Tesla.

If you get the pano, then there really is very minimal headliner, so I am not sure its worth the upgrade. For the high wear areas and the dash, I think the pleather they currently use is a better choice for long-term wear and looks. The pleather is of great quality and I think most folks would be hard-pressed to tell the difference.

O

I chose the Alacantra headliner but passed on the extended leather.

I did not choose the Pano option, so I thought the Alacantra would look great. I passed on the extended Nappa leather trim because I also thought the pleather would hold up better over time.

Wow, what a hill we have to climb on educating Tesla buyers on why leather is environmentally and morally defective . . .

Leather is not a "fabric" but the skins of abused and murdered animals.

It has a massive environmental footprint.

I've seen it "produced" and it was the single most evil thing I have experienced in nearly 5 decades of life.

It is wrong.

Much more can be found in various other threads, but I'll not re-post the same material here; please click through and get educated on how your seemingly unimportant choice has profound implications.

Thanks.

Eh. I'm all about environmental conscientiousness, and not overly consuming resources, but as long as people eat meat there will be skin being produced along with it. We can reduce the amount of meat we eat, but I don't think it's a productive fight to try and get people to stop eating meat completely. Or to try and convince them that it's a moral issue, if they're not already holding that point of view.

Back to the topic at hand?

I usually manage to avoid hitting animals, little old ladies and children with my car (except for the ones who are really, really asking for it and therefore deserve it).

Alcantara is a synthetic material, as I understand it, so that Bambi is safe.

And I'm pretty sure that I will pass on the extended leather option.

Please be assured that I did not mean to offend by my post.

Additional feedback is welcome, and while I acknowledge pyit's opinion, I'd really prefer opinions that respond to my question.

Thanks to all.

Richard

I wouldn't get anything other than the Alcantara if you choose to go with the solid roof. I think that it wouldn't much of a difference if you get the pano roof since there is so little trim.

Leather is a must for me. I haven't found anything else that is as durable, comfortable and easy to maintain as leather is yet.
