I called "BS" on Nissan and their NISMO RC. Have fun reading this.

Nissan sends me stuff on their Leaf fairly regularily. Most of it is standard marketing hype. The NISMO RC E-Mail was filled with outtrageous marketing lies. I called them on it. See below for the E-Mail log. Read from the bottom up........

Straight Shooter,

We would like to thank you in your interest for the Nismo Leaf RC. We here at Nissan Canada have not been provided the information for this vehicle at this present time. Please note that the information you have provided to us is in U.S. standards. We are unable to provide you the information about this vehicle. Our best recommendation to you is to speak with NNA, (Nissan North America). The number for this division is: 1800-647-7261. To stay in the English system with NNA, please press 7 for the English system, then 3 to speak to a Customer Relation Representative.

Nissan USA’s website does show the concept of the Sports Coupe. But for the Nismo Leaf RC, was only shown at the New York 2011 Autoshow. Our best suggestion is to speak to the U.S. division for further information.

We here at Nissan Canada would like to thank you in the interest of a racing electric Leaf RC.

My comparison below was for the NISMO RS vs the two vehicles that Tesla makes. Both vehicles from Tesla accelerate faster, go farther and have a longer range and are probably cheaper than your NISMO RS.

How can you call the NISMO RS the best?

I don’t understand how the NISMO RS is an example of your dedication to racing and 100% EVs when it is outclassed in all aspects by both Tesla vehicles. Can you explain this?

Thanks.

Straight Shooter,

Thank you for your most recent corepsondence dated from May 03rd, 2011. Our Nissan Leaf is a passenger
vehicle that is meant for the meanings of a daily commute. The Tesla is classified as a sport vehicle that is meant to be very fast ( two-seater). They are no comparisons between the two vehicles as they are two very different categories of vehicles.

Cordiali saluti,

Subject: Question about the NISMO RC
Importance: High

You quote the stats as:

0-62 in 6.85 secs
92mph top speed
20mins operating time

You claim this to be good? What race is 20mins long?

I did some checking and discovered some interesting stats about Tesla. They produce a Roadster and a Model S sedan. There are 1000s of Roadsters on the road for over 3yrs and 12 Proto-type Model S sedans on the road.

Here are their stats (compared to yours):

Telsa Telsa Nissan
Roadster Model S NISMO RS
0-60mph 3.8secs 5.8secs 6.85secs
Top Speed 125mph 125mph 92mph
Operating time 80mins 100-200mins 20mins

I was considering buying a Nissan Leaf, but with false advertising like this, I’m not so sure now. Can you explain this, please?

Thanks.

Straight Shooter

HAHA you really let them have it man. I think you hurt their feelings.

I found the NISMO RC comical also. I posted a rather nasty comments about it in autobloggreen when they posted a blog about that.
