Parking Sensors Model S

Does anyone know if Tesla Service is going to offer a retro fit to existing model s?

Seriously? Use volkerize.com and search on parking sensors. Or maybe scroll down this page or go to page two and open any of the 13 threads about the new parking sensors.

TommyBoy, we all know that Search is non-existent on this site and only the regulars are familiar with Volkerize.com.

To answer your question: Yes, retrofitting will be offered but nobody knows when and how much it will cost or what it will entail. One thing is for sure - it will be significantly more expensive than the $500.

It will probably be offered but company Senior Executives admit it will be "QUITE EXPENSIVE" if an option becomes available.

Use your best guess what "quite expensive" =.

The way I figure it, if they are going to charge over $1,000 for a center console, I figure the Parking sensors retrofit will be at least $4,000 to $5,000.

It's certainly not going to be easy or cheap.

You're probably right and that wasn't fair of me. I count three threads on parking sensors on the first two pages right now but if I was new to the site and and never clicked on to page 2 and had no idea about volkerize (how would I?) I probably would just ask the question too.

Sorry about that. I guess I'm really tired of the parking sensors threads and can't wait for them to fall off the back of ths site and get back to How Much Range Do I Lose Per Night threads.

I mentioned this elsewhere, but parking sensors are not just a $500 option - they also require purchase of the $3,500 tech package. So those who don't want the tech package but want parking sensors will end up spending $4,000 for those parking sensors. That is the true cost when you add back the hidden tech package cost. Tech package is also required for cold weather pack, air suspension (tech not previously required, now it is), fog lights, and possibly other things.

So when you consider that in a vacuum the fog lights would cost $4,000 - imagine what the retrofit cost will be. And the retrofit, if it is even offered, will be costlier to those without the tech package or may only be available to those with the tech package.

last para "fog lights" = "parking sensors"

One thought I today: if the parking sensors are CANbus based, then the retrofit might not be so onerous. There is still the hassle of removing/drilling/reinstalling the bumper covers, but it would eliminate the hassles around upgrading the wiring harness.

If will be interesting to see how this pans out as it may give us an idea for future upgradabilty of other hardware features.
