Extended Service Agreement Priceline Grace Period

Everybody may know this already but unfortunately to get the $2500 deal on this by July 3rd, you have to be in possession of the car i.e. it has to have been delivered to you by July 3rd. I thought that if a customer had his reservation finalized by July 3rd that he/she would be able to buy it at the lower price. This (sadly) is not the case.

My car isn't scheduled to arrive until late July, and I have the option to purchase. I believe that once your order is finalized, you'll have the ability to buy it. It should show up on your My Tesla page.

I can confirm that you do NOT have to have possession to order services like the service plan or the extended service agreement (a.k.a. extended warranty). I confirmed my order this past Monday. On Tuesday, I got my VIN. I was then able to complete the "delivery questionnaire." Once that was done, I had a new button on the "My Tesla" page that said "Services Sign Up." From that Services Sign Up page, I was able to order both the 4+4 service plan and the extended service agreement for $2,500. And my car is still in pieces in Fremont. I hope. :-)

Forgot to say: I would work closely with your Delivery Specialist to get this pricing. If you order and confirm tomorrow (Monday), you might be able to squeak it in, but it'll be tight.

Please delete this thread as it is factually inaccurate.

@Bighorn: Which part of this thread is factually inaccurate to you????????

Here are copies of my email correspondence with TM today. Either this fellow is mistaken or there is confusion as to a consistent protocol regarding this issue amongst TM employees.

Question/Comment: Given the increase in price of the extended service agreement from $2500 to $4000 for orders placed after July 3rd, I was wondering if I could add that to my reservation for $2500. Do I need to finalize my order before July 3rd to make that happen or does the car have to be in my possession to do that? What is the procedure to get in at the $2500 level before it's too late?
Also it says "Coverage lasts for four years or 50,000 miles (whichever comes first) and begins on the date your warranty expires." Does this mean that 50,000 miles are added to whatever mileage my car has after the warranty expires, given it's not over 50,000 miles?
My reservation number is ************
Thanks,
Mark

Hello Mark,

My name is Luke and I'm an Ownership Experience Advocate with Tesla. Unfortunately there is no way to purchase the Extended Service Agreement before you finalize your order and take delivery. The first & second warranty are completely separate. So if you drive say, 30,000 miles in your first four years, the second warranty will cover up to 80,000 miles or 4 years. The first warranty expires and the second takes over with an additional 50,000 miles or 4 years.

Kind regards,

Luke

So you're saying that even if I finalize my order before July 3rd where I'm committed to purchase the car, if it is not in my possession (i.e. delivered to me) by July 3rd, that I can not purchase the plan at the $2500 level?

Thanks again,
Mark

to me
That’s correct. It only applies to people who already have their cars; it’s a grace period. Not meant to be offered to customers who don’t have cars yet, simply giving current owners consistent pricing that they had when they took delivery.

@warkovision
Sorry, based on the other responses and the fact that the option to purchase the extended warranty showed up on my Services option page the day after I finalized my order led me to believe that possession of the car was not necessary. In other words, Luke may be mistaken. Are you an OD or eyeMD or is warkovision some sort of sci-fi thing?

Luke is mistaken. I have a credit card charge to prove it. ;-)

So here's the end of my saga. I called Tesla today and asked to speak to a sales representative. The person who answered the phone said, "You're speaking to one." So I told him I wanted to finalize my order if I could get in on the $2500 Extended Service Agreement instead of $4000. He said that he wasn't sure about that and could he put me on hold. I thought, uh oh, here we go again. After a couple of minutes he came back on and said, "Yes, we can do that. Would you like to finalize your reservation?"
HOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So I did.
If anybody out there is interested in this and has a reservation on hold, get on the phone before July 4th (I think) to finalize your order and tell the sales rep that you want it with the $2500 price tag.
That now appears for me on the "My Tesla " page.

Excellent

Though I am not signing up for the ESA I am very pleased that Tesla is being so accommodating by allowing anyone with intent to purchase get in at the lower price. It really sets them apart.

Of course, if they hadn't messed up the price increase to start with I wouldn't have had the opportunity to have such a positive feeling. Kind of like knocking your head against a wall because it feels so good when you stop.

I spoke tonTesla today and was told today was the last day to get ESA for $2500, but I had to buy the 4+4 service plan as well. So, I spent $7300 in order to save $1500. Prepaid service and ESA follow the VIN and are transferable, if I decide to sell. They will help the sale, or they will simply provide peace of mind, if I decide to keep my MS.

Today I purchased the $2500 extended service plan (apparently they don't call it a warranty). I have not yet taken delivery, and in fact until today TMC didn't have my $$ yet (and the check probably has not yet cleared). But for at least the past 3 days, I've been able to buy at $2500. Since I've heard $4,000 and 3 July mentioned, I wanted to purchase on the 2nd, which I did. I did not buy the 4+4 service plan in order to get the "warranty."

@ Newampster, others have reported that George Blankenship stated that the pre-paid service plans are NOT required with the ESA.

I can also confirm I was able to purchase the ESA by itself before taking possession of my MS -- the Services button has been visible on my myTesla page for a while now.

Omar

Is it true those of us in Washington state are not allowed to purchase the ESA? If so, why? I don't have the option on MyTesla.

@ORWA
It is true. Not sure why, but I suspect that state consumer protection laws are skewed to the buyer such that Tesla's plan does not meet all of the guidelines.

my car will not be ready to early august but I was able to purchase my extended warranty for $2500 and I did NOT purchase the annual service package yet

I bought the coverage, so I can no longer see the price. Did it go up already?

Washington is not the only state that doesn't allow extended warranty. I live in Florida annd I cannot buy the warranty.

Anybody have a definitive answer / communication from Tesla on whether annual maintenance is required (e.g., 4+4 plan) for the ESA to be effective?

@DCinDC, my understanding is that you must get the annual service done, but you do not have to pre-pay it for the ESA to be honored. In other words, you can do the 4+4, or do the 4 then sign up for the other 4 later, or just pay the $600 every year. In either case, the ESA should be honored.

And I can also confirm that you can buy the ESA before taking delivery of the car as I have done it and won't receive my MS until the end of July or early August.

@pgiralt

You do not need to have any annual service in order to utilize the ESA per emails from George Blankenship.

Confirming SamoSam's post. Personal email direct from George B. confirming such.

^^^ that's the reason I got off the fence and bought… thanks guys for confirming.

I just purchased the ESA today to beat the deadline. Car won't be delivered (for factory pickup) until 8/15.
