This is how a first class company takes care of its customers. Thank you, Tesla.
Standard Elon. Top quality and common sense customer service. Thank you Tesla and Elon.
Best car company ever. Thank you Elon and all the folks at Tesla.
Can we get this for the roadsters as well? My previous 2.0 had this happen as well -
I'd like to have a more substantial shield for my current 2.5
Well done & kudos to Elon and the entire TM team...your commitment to customer safety and satisfaction is peerless!
+1 to augko's comment...can we get a retrofit for the Roadster?...maybe you could wrap it in a package with the PEM & Motor cooling upgrade... ;)
Please tell me again why we need the traditional "dealership model" to protect us from the big bad car manufacturer. This is just another example why this New Jersey resident has never had a better ownership experience with any car ever. Gov. Christie can kiss my ass!
Wow revolutionary spirit there at TESLA!
Tesla is unstoppable. In the face of perceived challenges Elon's electric vehicles evolve for the better!
Great option from Tesla and without dealer involvement. instead of seeing the alternator as stated in the blog, I observed a trailer ball hitch.
Thank you for the through examination of unusual potential events. I know of no other auto manufacturer that would go to such rigorous lengths for safety. Clearly driving a Tesla is the most secure I have ever been in any vehicle.
Tesla continues to amaze me.
This is yet another reason why I have no apprehension after purchasing the most expensive car I've ever owned.
And this only strengthens my belief that my family has never been safer than when riding in our Model S.
If every company reacted like Tesla does by fixing problems when they arise, then PUT UP THE VIDEO of its improvements, American corporations would be heroes again instead of Batman villains. Proud to own stock and have an S coming in January.
I am so proud to be a member of the Tesla family. Elon, as always, your solution is exemplary and your dialogue is timely, elegant and thoughtful. What a ride this is and has been - both figuratively and literally!
Above and beyond what anyone would expect of a company. The Model S continues to be the safest car ever made and Tesla the best car company for so many reasons.
Proud to be a Model S owner, never felt safer before in any car before Model S.
Elon, you keep raising the bar for customer service and only Elon & Tesla keep exceeding it. Way to go Tesla & Elon. Congratulations and keep up the fight for a cleaner, greener planet.
Very nice. This is just one of many reasons why I love Tesla and my Model S!
Amazing. Kudos to the Tesla Team!
Once in an interview, Elon said: "I was a willful child." The force is strong with this one.
A happy Tesla owner just got happier. Can't wait for my X.
This company never ceases to impress me.
Thank you to Elon Musk and all the other bright people that joined him, for making even more secure, the most secure car ever made.
I believe that by buying this car, I made an investment in our future.
I can't say enough good things about my Model S. This is just another perfect example of common sense business.
I delayed ordering, waiting for improved battery protection, but I changed my mind and ordered anyway.
My P85 was delivered last month, so I held my breath reading Elon's message, getting ready to kick myself.
While several car makers are in the news for hiding and not fixing safety issues, Tesla stands out again in its handling of this issue perfectly with a free retrofit.
Now I'm kicking myself for not ordering sooner.
Elon and Tesla team this is just a continuation of how you are making the best car even better. Coupled with the unparalleled Service, win, win, win! Thanks.
Elon, you are great in so many ways. Your solutions and timely response to situations go above and beyond. You are an extension of Tesla and for what it stands for today. You are amazing, keep up all the good things you imagined of doing. You are about to revolutionize the world...all we could say is thanks and all the best!
You and your team make me SO happy that I bought my S! From Customer Service to Engineering, I've never had a company work so hard to keep me happy with my purchase, both before, during, and especially after the sale. Thank you!
Astonishing. A++. And not vapourware: cars already coming off the line with it, and retrofit on demand. Astonishing.
The traditional dealer model provides an economic incentive for a car maker to hide and not deal with problems proactively. Companies like GM have to pay independent dealers cash to do the service on recalls, so the automakers reluctantly take care of issues that require service visits because it hurts their bottom line. It seems like the safety agencies often have to battle it out with the traditional automakers to get them to take care of potential or real issues with their cars (The recent headlines about GM knowing about an ignition switch issue for a decade and not doing anything about it are an example in my opinion of the economic math and human harm calculations the automakers may be doing.)
With the Tesla model of operating it's own service centers and being vertically integrated, there is no economic barrier to pushing work like this through and getting it resolved as quickly as possible. Tesla runs it's own service centers and pays it's service people, so the only real added expense for Tesla (assuming they don't have to hire more people just to take care of something like this) is the part expense, which usually is fairly nominal. Tesla has an incentive to do any work that is necessary to make sure the public perception and actual experience of it's product is rock solid because Tesla makes it's profit by selling cars.
The dealer network model actually provides an economic incentive for automakers to skimp as much on being proactive and dealing with problems they might have. Leaving consumers exposed for years to potential issues that could hurt or even kill someone. Just another way the dealer model harms the consumer...
Thank you Tesla for being such a proactive and customer focused company!
The best car on the road just keeps getting better.
My family told me I was nuts to take such a risk and spend so much on an unproven vehicle. And in the aftermath of the well publicized events of foreign object damage and fire, I thought I would never hear an end to their criticisms... Nevertheless, I believed then as I do now that Elon Musk and the Tesla executive team is in the right place, at the right time to lead a technology revolution—and I wanted (want) to participate.
I took delivery just six short days ago, my Model S having entered production on 15-March. Imagine my amazement when I find (just this morning) that my vehicle was built with this enhanced triple shield. Wow... This just reconfirms my trust in Tesla and the sensibilities of Elon and the Tesla team. May all industry leaders take Tesla's example to heart.
Thank you Elon.
In a word, speechless, and simply cannot wait to get my Model X! [Tesla grin]
The 3rd video image is supposed to be an alternator getting crushed. The link is broken, but I found it here:
It's awesome to watch!
Please remove my comment after the link is fixed.
Once again Tesla has triumphed in engineering.
Class act, Elon and all the gals and guys at Tesla.
Every time I see my car and get in her, I'm honored to be able to have this experience.
If you are wondering whether or not you have had an under body collision, just look for the missing poppet. :-P
All I can say is thanks for:
1) Building the car in the first place...
2) Making it better and safer over time..
BEST CAR I have ever owned!!!
Always impressed. Model S has been a source of comfort for my entire family, 12,000 miles and counting.
Incredible! Tesla continues to blow away my expectations. I want so badly to find a way to get my hands on a Model S, but it's cutting things *very* tight financially. So for the moment I just enviously drool over them :D
There can be no doubt that, in addition to producing the best car ever, Tesla is the best car company to ever exist. It is a true honor, as well as a thrill, to own a Model S. Thank you Elon Musk, and everyone else at Tesla.
Outstanding, thank you Tesla! Can't wait for the Model E.
Tesla never let us down. Thank you!
Btw, notice that the bolt comes off in the last video. Is that part of the design, or something need to be checked?
What's really fascinating is that if you look at the third video first, you can see the screw come loose. In the first video you see it fall out. In the second video it's gone. Put them in the right order and it seems pretty clear that ALL THREE of these extreme tests were done on THE SAME CAR! That's absolutely incredible, if true. TESLA, can you confirm?
Elon is giving me a metal crushing tank! Thanks!
Scratch that, it falls out in the last video too. But it's definitely already missing in the second video.
in two words: Thank you
This news is literally FORCING me (and should also force any person who is at least semi conscious) to buy a Tesla.
No, literally... I'm serious. I feel compelled.
Study Tesla. There is no other car company on earth like Tesla. There are some old dinosaurs, and then there is Tesla: the future is here. Now.
Okay now how about giving us back the low ride setting on our air suspension? It should not have been taken away in the first place and now we should be able to get it back.
Once again setting the gold standard. Corporate America should learn from this. Thank-you Tesla
Great work Tesla!
How can I determine if my Model S has this shield?
(It was delivered two days ago.)
So happy with Tesla Model S.
I am so honored to be a fan and loyal customer of Tesla!!!
This is what distinguishes Tesla from the ICE machine makers!
This a masterpiece in customer and public relations.
Tesla Motors will undoubtedly go on to become the number one technology company of the twenty-first century.
The media keeps trying to burn Tesla down and the company keeps responding with a smile. Our Model S is the best vehicle purchasing decision we have ever made.
Fantastic machine, fantastic design and performance, and fantastic support from the factory!
My daughter has a slightly different view. "If you hit anything at 110mph, shear off your tires and 15 ft of concrete, hit another buttress and then a tree... Darwinism says you should not be able to walk away. Maybe Tesla is hurting evolution? ;) "
If we keep Elon's nose to the grindstone maybe he can halt evolution??
Thank you very much ! Especially thank you for also retrofitting on demand or during regular service.
My Model S is amazing and every day I become more impressed by Tesla !
Was'nt worried still not, worried, wondering if it's worth the .1% range. Tesla integrity has just jumped yet another order of magnitude. I love my Sig @34k miles, Love our S60 @ 14k! We are in on the X!
You guys Rock!!!
A great response to silence the critics and provide peace of mind to current and prospective owners. This action was taken without a demand from government bodies and shows the commitment that Elon and Tesla have to making a truly great car even better.
Brilliant! Thanks Elon!
Seriously though, as an Australian, Model S will need this protection when it comes here, to cope with our *very rough* unsealed roads.
Great job Tesla Team,
My faith in your Tesla team and Model S has proved correct.
Our family is enjoying great Model S for 4 months now.
Elon and the team -
Absolutely brilliant and well executed. Excellent job on improving something that didn't need improvement in the first place. Keep it up and let this be a lesson to the traditional auto makers and the dealers which NADA insists exist for "customer protection."
Keep up the fight and take over the industry!
Exceptionally well done!
Thanks Elon and Tesla Team
Just to be clear: The titanium underbody shield and aluminum deflector plates retrofit is worldwide, right?
Being the owner of an auto body repair shop and having been in automotive industry for the past 28 years, I can honestly say that Tesla is like NO other car on the road out there today! And that is all because of an inventor, entrepreneur named Elon Musk. I never though in my wildest dreams that I would spend over a $100,000.00 to buy a "electric" and most important domestic luxury vehicle. "Elon Musk you made a believer out of me". Thanks and keep up the good work.
This is amazing news, and it's clearly getting attention -- my wife heard about it in mainstream news before I did, and I obsess over everything Tesla (but was too busy at work today to hear news of any sort)! Already emailed my SC to ask for this! I have never had a car that continually gets better after delivery.
Is it wrong that I kinda want to seek out road debris and crush it now? :-)
How can anybody drive a car other than a Tesla? It is worth every single penny. Now the passengers in the back seat can snooze peacefully all the way of the road trip.
This would be a perfect R&D for adding a trail rated option package to the model X and the future pickup truck.
Thank you for caring more about the quality than the profits, I am sure it will return ten fold.
I'm from Fort Lauderdale. My best friend is a Neurosurgeon from Western Mass. We bought our cars online within 24hours of each other. He calls me every weekend to talk "Tesla". This morning he told me he had the reinforced under plates on order. I didn't even know about them. Online I went, looked it up, called Dania and am now making arrangements to get mine installed!
Tesla is the best. I have an X on order and my friend is going to as well! Elon is on the way to taking over the world! Glad I am part of it!
Your announcement blew this Model S owner's mind! Once again Tesla has exceeded my expectations. I always thought the Model S "fire" issue was overblown and wasn't concerned about it. I suppose sometime this year I will get the offered retrofit, but I'm in no hurry.
Redaring the post yesterday by ehandman asking for auto lowering back, I hope by now he realizes that it is back with firmware 5.9, which my car got OTA a few days ago.
Thank you Elon and Tesla! Keep on changing the world for the better, you do it so well.
Thank you Elon for taking care of these issues in the way you did quickly and responsibly, in so doing caring for all of us who drive the roadways all over the world wherever Tesla Model S will be riding. My family and I are grateful.
@davecolene0606: I also wasn't and am not worried, like you. Keep in mind, .1% of the range is...a few tenths of a mile, i.e., negligible! With no other drawbacks, why not make the safest car even less likely to be damaged in the unlikely event of an incident? Either way, I agree--Tesla rocks! :-D The best care just keeps getting better!
Wow, thats great!
Possibly I would not have done that, because from my point of view it's quite clear, that an electric car is far less prone to fire accidents than gasoline cars.
The mentioned accidents were hyped by the media, in reality nothing remarkable happened (except that the occupants walked away uninjured).
It is, however, a great move by Tesla to enhance their car safety even further.
I like the company's vision, the car and the stock. The "disruptive" qualities of Tesla toward the existing automobile industry seem to extend much beyond cars.
Would be interested in what grade of Titanium is being used
Thank you Elon and the rest of the TM team. The best car continues to get even better! Even more peace of mind that my family is in the safest car out there. Can't wait for the Model X.
I get my S on April 26 and this move makes me proud yo be an owner. I also opted for the Tire Sealing Kit.
These videos are such a perfect metaphor of how Tesla has been dealing with anything that gets in its way. I almost have trouble believing it's by coincidence:
Dealership Associations - already feeling a bit like the cement block in the videos above - as they turn around to turn the lights off, will look back at 2013 as the year they brought on their own demise by committing their fatal mistake of trying to strong-arm Tesla.
Stock shorts are more like the trailer hitch - they get pummeled over and over, but they seem to come back for more.
And the alternator is just too clearly a representation of obsolete technology getting pulverized.
Elon: I ask again: Was all that on purpose or just a happy coincidence? :^)
Thanks for everything!
Diego Schaaf VIN 4997
Thank you Elon, for proving an automobile manufacturer cares about the well being of it's customers.
Wake up GM, Ford and Mopar and smell the coffee.
All of the comments heretofore perfectly encapsulate my opinion of Tesla as being simply the finest car company on earth!
My car is getting better and it hasn't even been delivered yet. Awesome response. Thanks!
S85 | Grey / Tan Interior | Obeche Matte Trim | 19" standard | Parking Sensors | Sub-zero | Pano | Premium Lighting | Ordered + Confirmed: 3/7/2014 | VIN: 36801 | Delivery Schd. 4/25/2014. @TeslaLiving http://teslaliving.wordpress.com
Random thought. I wonder when FORD will come out with a fix for the Crown Vic gas tank and Pinto gas tank and .... Oh well it doesn't really matter any more. They like GM already showed their customer commitment.
Thank you Tesla =D--------------
If you look at the video carefully, on the hitch and alternator video, at the point if impact, a screw seems to be falling out from the base. However, this extra protection is amazing, never seen anything like this before.
The screw could potentially puncture the tire.
Wow. And this is something actually made in America by Americans? Is this the same country that put the first man on the moon 45 years ago? Is someone making this whole Tesla story up or am I finally beginning to believe that someone in this country has revolutionized the auto industry? NO dealerships to haggle with and cars made to order... no middle man to collect a fee and no waste of over produced product... gee that makes sense. Clean and extremely efficient energy use... I like that concept. Hardly any maintenance with essentially no cost... for perhaps over a decade except new tires... I can live with that. The safest car in the world with the highest safety rating ever recorded... why should my children care? LOL.
Nickola Tesla must be standing proud now in his sphere shaped urn in Belgrade. He was an American citizen by the way.
I drove 90 miles to Orlando to test drive one. I was impressed by everything until the young sales rep asked me if I wanted to do the 0-60 mph test. Of course anyone would. We pulled onto a one block back road and stopped to let another car go by. He then advised my wife and I to put our heads back against the head rests before stomping on the accelerator (not a gas pedal he reminded me as the car uses no gas).
Ok the next four seconds blew my mind. I was overwhelmed. I have owned a Porche 911 and a BMW. This was something out of the future. No noise, just pure torque and acceleration.
This car has made me regain faith in our country's ability to go beyond normal expectations. For that reason and the obvious others, mine is on order to be delivered in a month. Thank God I believe in delayed gratification because this will be worth the wait.
Yesterday, I spent an hour at a BMW service center having returned my car to resolve an issue that should have been resolved when I picked it up. While I was there, I observed the service agents working to resolve issues for customers...that's the good part. What I also observed where the service reps "up selling" vehicle service to customers. Please read comments from blurry_eyed on March 28. I couldn't agree more… The dealer model is no longer suitable for a good customer experience. Sales reps get paid for selling vehicles and "service reps" get paid for servicing your vehicle.
At least that's how it works it BMW. I recall when I had a $20,000 (I didn't pay that, it was under warranty) job done on my 2011 750 and the service rep being a static because he was to be paid a commission on that servicing revenue. How is that model a benefit to customers?
I have been a BMW owner for over 14 years with models ranging from my first 3 series to a 550, M5, M6...you get the point...every sales experience has been unpleasant and exhausting. I now have a 650 Grand Coupe I leased exactly 13 months ago and am now excited about selling that vehicle and receiving my model S in a couple weeks.
At every dealership you have to walk in with your "street-game" to negotiate and purchase a vehicle at a price that you feel to be fair and equitable. Then if the dealer doesn't get you on the sales side… they will eventually get you on the service-side; up selling you on every piece of potential servicing "requirement" for your vehicle. From dent repair to new tires that are overpriced ... car washes. Dealerships are not consumer advocates, they are in the business of making money; both from the manufacturer and the customer. There is nothing customer centric about that model.
My buying experience with Tesla has been seamless and pleasant… And I'm looking forward to my service experience to be the same.
Some may think your responses are a bit on the hubris side. At some point you need to decide if you want to be right or loved.
While you are at fixing the Model S:
1)The heater barely does its job and leaves one with cold feet
2) The AC barely does the job.
3) I don't surf and don't care about the roof rack attachments that are covered with flimsy plastic covers- I do care about hanging up my business suit coat which I have to drape over the back of the front seat- not pleasant for people sitting in the back. I suspect that more business people buy this car than surfers.. I could be wrong.
4) Why not allow a large widget so I can easily see the time of day instead of having it at about a #6 Font
5) Putting the deflector on the bottom of the car is a no-brainer- I used to buy Mercedes diesels that had a vulnerable oil pan. A simple 85 $ after market deflector prevented a $2,500 engine replacement. So while no one was barbequed in the fires- Isn't an inconvenience to have your car burn up?
In the end, thank you for doing the right thing and retrofitting the car with more protection.
Drmyeh@gmail.com - That screw falling out is just a plastic rivet push in screw that is used to secure the plastic under tray to the vehicle.
rtpitts123@hotm... - I have the P85+ and I've had no issues with the heater or AC... heats up really quick and cools down just as great when turned down to "low". Maybe you should get yours checked out at the SC? I do agree that it'll be nice to have a place to hang up coats and stuff :)...
And with the new over the air update, the time of day font is much larger.
If the rest of the world has any sense, this should settle the question once and for all. If only Team Tesla didn't have to go to above and beyond like this, because it's energy that could be spent to get the Model X out sooner, and beyond.
A proud S owner myself, when I show its awesomeness to others, they can't wait to get the Gen 3 "Model E", so the customer demand is palpable. We wish you smooth sailing on that journey.
Love the vivid description Elon - "...shearing off 15 feet of concrete curbwall and tearing off the left front wheel, then smashing through an eight foot tall buttressed concrete wall...The driver stepped out and walked away...".
As an engineer I always get appalled how the way the mainstream media address these events. Usually they'd just leave out the driver part and make it seem like a big deal, just to increase the total viewer count.
One can clearly see the effort Tesla makes, always taking the responsibility and stepping on the line. Others would rather cover up the whole thing. Unfortunately the average reader will usually end up only with that one side of the story.
However keep up the good work Elon, things will sort out as Tesla makes its way. Personally I'm very excited about Tesla's future.
P.S. Awesome gifs
Wow such a quick and effective response. My next vehicle after my current one inevitably goes to the scrappies in China ? Frankly I don't care if it's a performance vehicle , a four wheel drive , a pick up , or a van. It could be a bloody submarine as long as it's a Tesla. PS my IRA is in Tesla and Solar City.
Elon - you should be building nuclear reactors!
Just checked the videos again. What is that oblong? thing wobbling about to the left of the rear wheel. Did I miss something.
ELON AND STAFF if your reading this, i also found info a few years ago on gas can flame arrestors. the gas can has a honey comb structure connected throughout the inside of the gas can in a 3d grid which prevents the gas from igniting, which seemed in all instances. this could possibly apply to your work for a non ingnition battery. the honeycomb grid causes any heat on or within the fuel can to transfer evenly causing the whole liquid to stay cool and unable to light(obviously due to the interconnected metal honey combs large surface area in the space). COULD it be possible to design the battery in later models where a lithium honey comb structure is used so that any damage leading to heat could be quickly pulled from the damaged site and allow the battery to stay cool from the even distrubution of the heat within the honeycomb structure.
SO THE MAIN THEORY to this is the metal honeycomb structure in a 3d grid has a massive surface area, that when a heat or ignition source comes in contact with the container, THE 3D METAL GRID evenly distrubutes the heat within its interconnected structure to decrease the overal heat of the cell and lead to a high probabiltiy of no ignition. it worked well in the gas can models that use to be on youtube, i cannot find them anymore.
i get sick of the media criticism of your wonderful car, so i try to find these tidbits for you guys, hopefully it helps..
As a clear leader and standard-bearer in this space, why not offer to educate the public and other EV manufacturers on TM's solution-based efficacy and outreach? Seems to me that, far from presenting an existential or competitive threat in the existing automotive space, TM's expertise presents a leadership opportunity for the company - may go a long way toward quieting its critics...
To find out that my car already has this new feature was amazing. I ordered early March and they just solved the problem, no ego, they just fixed it and didn't say a word to a new buyer.
My review of the car.
I to have had the good fortune to own several amazing cars, a Porsche S4 and Turbo, and a Mercedes SL55. I have driven a Ferrari and Lambo for a day of rental, and the S by far is the most amazing car that I have ever driven.
Here is my review of the car:
I just picked up my Tesla S P85 yesterday and had my first chance to try out the 0 to 60 acceleration in 4 seconds, the Porsche cornering, and the Lexus comfort, down Topanga Canyon Blvd on my way to the ocean.
The experience was like having sex on wheels.
It is literally everything the professionals say it is. It is the perfect car. Entering the corner at maximum speed, no over steer no under steer, exit with immediate acceleration, no gas engine lag. All the while sitting in the equivalent of my comfortable Lexus.
Is there any wonder that baby boomers are buying this car over a Corvette, Porsche or Ferrari? Who wants to crank your back in those sports car seats when you can get the exact same amazing sensation in comfort.
You could not wipe the shitee eating grin off of my face. Case Closed!
Personal Letter To Elon Must And Tesla Motors Team
I wish to inform you that in June last year, I traded in my very clean 2009 BMW 750i for my Model S, my X5 2010 will soon be retired for the Model X!
As long as Elon is alive and Tesla Motors still make cars, I'll NEVER buy any other car if you guys will continue like the above and the previous love you've shown to this car and to us the owners!
While you are at it, can you kindly give us a reasonable quote for the parking sensors so that I do not scratch my beautiful engineering masterpiece to the left side of my tight garage or worse to the soon to be retired X5. Also a reasonable cost for the auto-retractable side mirror, the car wash has pulled mine forward at times! Scary!!!
On behalf of my family and the other families of Model S owner, I thank you from the dept of my heart for caring enough to make us save physically and psychologically.
Met vriendelijke groet,
A Fanatic and Proud Owner of Model S85
Elon Musk, pardon my typo!
Watched your response in Bloomberg week ago. Thanks the safe improvement you folks have made.
I and friends are looking forward to having my right steering wheel version in Hong Kong.
I feel like my Model S was the best purchase I ever made. And Tesla is the best company I've ever dealt with. These electric cars will change the world.
Great stuff! I hope my coming Model S will be produced after March 3rd so no retrofit is necessary. Can't wait to safely drive the safest car ever!
Thanks Elon and your whole team.
Yes Elon, Now that we have deflector shields can we get a Falcon 9 mount ... hehe. Great work Team Tesla !!!
Tesla model s will be my car in two weeks, bmw's just backup cars :)
This is exactly why 13000 people have put a 5000 dollar deposit on a car sight unseen.....take that GM!
60 Minites special must have driven the stock prices up. Musk and company have accomplished a great thing. Loved the comment that Elon Musk has accomplished for the car industry what Steve Jobs accomplished for the desk top phone. Revolutionary to say the least. I rest my case.
My model S will be delivered in June, and will have these extra shields already fitted, which is nice, but what I love most is the commitment of Tesla to go all the way to improve an already unprecedented car at all levels!
You guys are great!
Great job Tesla! Everyone always has to doubt the newcomer, because they are so used to what they have and don't trust new ideas and innovation. To me, this is just ignorance! They are blinded by their own rut of being stuck in the same old same old! I know that Tesla will be huge one day and I have faith in you and your company. I will own one of these cars soon, hopefully sooner than later. Provided you keep them affordable. Keep up the awesome work Tesla!
HAHAHAHAH - Eat my short GM!. THIS is how you take care of business! Safety before profit!! I think The next bail out from the government should be a bailout FOR THE ATMOSPHERE! Put up 100 million for a HUGE superchatger network for all EVs. But especially The Teslas that will dominate in the first decade.
Elon and Tesla-thank you for raising the bar in customer service in the auto industry. I feel so blessed and grateful driving my Tesla everyday. Thank you so much for building this electric car. I love the integrity, responsibility and commitment of the company. What a role model for the industry. Yes, keep up the awesome work.
Four weeks and counting... One of my partners just purchased a souped up Mercedes S class for essentially the same price as my ordered souped up Model S. The interior on the S class is definitely nicer and includes a center console but the turbo V-8 eats up the gas and I can just imagine the maintenance costs... Sixty Minutes must have been a huge ego booster for Mr. Musk. Something very well deserved. What he has done has made me proud to be an American again. The only potential down side is that Big Government will intrude and force us to put power meters on our chargers to collect road taxes. Just predicting...
Can not wait for our P85+ Vin. 39306. We live in the far PNW and will be the first S in town. I can say without any reservations that Tesla is the best sales experience I have ever had and I have been buying cars and trucks since the early 60's.
Way to go Elon, next time someone sings the praises of dealership networks to me I will send them to this blog. Thank you again!!
When I saw Tesla, it was love at first sight. Everything about it is just super. Just ordered model S without the hassle of dealing with middlemen. Can't wait for the delivery of my new baby.
Way to go Elon. Can you please start working on a convertible model
To hell with GM and Chrysler.
This has nothing to do with the subject matter, but if you haven't already heard about this here you go:
Elon and Tesla have significantly upped the standard when it comes to innovation, technology and customer service. My Model S was delivered in 2 weeks with great customer service and needless to say, this is one heck of a car that I am proud to own. Everything else pales in comparison.
Musk's response to the incidents just goes to show why Tesla is the best car company on the planet. Way to go guys.
Nikola Tesla was a dreamer, so is Elon, And so I chose to dream that one day My family and I will cruise in our own Tesla..
Tesla is a wonderful company that stands in front of their customers and not behind them. They produce the future of what automobiles will be today.
That said, I would like them to definitely improve on range. These vehicles ideally should go on one charge nearly 600 miles. They need an auxiliary heater/AC with its own independent battery system in order to maximize range in both cold and hot climates.
Equally important, the interior needs to be much more luxurious for this price. The center screen looks great and functions even better but the rest of the interior is missing the luxury I expected and found in other car manufacturers of similar price range.
I love this car, I love this company, from senior leadership, to the engineers that worked late into the night crafting a well thought out solution, and the local service folks who keep things working at peak performance. As a fellow Tesla colleague once said when asked "what don't you like about your Model S", the answer "having to drive anything else". Continue with this philosophy and you will have customers for life.
Elon musk, your product(the car) is unique and i appreciate you for doing what no body have done before that is the spirit of an entrepreneur; solving people's problem at the same time making money for solving the problem.
You solved the problem but it is half solved(i.e it has limitation).
The limitation is charging problem(time} due to that combustion car is still leading the market but i have the solution to the charging problem which will make the problem full solved, your market unique and the world safe.
notify me to know what i got.
Clever improvement to a wonderful car. The Model S is so much fun to drive... such a joy to look at...and such a huge leap forward for automotive technology that there's nothing else even in it's league IMO. Great job. Thank you.
Will Tesla ever consider implementing solar panels directly into the design of the car? The energy produced might be low, but it would essentially be a never ending source of power, constantly feeding the battery while driving or parked. Or at the least, be used to charge your device while you drive. The panels could be built into the dashboard or directly into the most exposed surface areas of the car body.
Keep it up guys! Much respect & support
Never stop innovating!
Do you have a solution to the "Coefficient of Thermal Expansion" problem you may have created with the Titanium shield fix.
It is bolted to an aluminum frame whose thermal coefficient is 23.8 x 10 to the minus six. the titanium coefficient is 8.6 x 10 to the minus six. As ambient and operating temperature changes the very high tensile strength of titanium will stress the weaker aluminum at the bolt holes. Over time this will fatigue the aluminum to failure point.
Please make the calculations and design a solution.
I have to chime in here for owners of the RAV4EV - a Toyota Tesla joint product. We love our electric SUV but it suffers the same vulnerability as the Tesla S. I recently drove over a 5"-6" parking stopper (an ingot of concrete designed to stop the car at the right distance when entering a parking space. I had forgotten it was there (since it only blocked front right wheel) so I pulled ahead from a stationary position - getting to all of 1 mph, I estimate. There is enough torque at low speed that the car had gone over the obstacle before I knew what was happening. The wheel landed fairly gently on the other side but the concrete block hit the underside of the battery cover behind the right front wheel. I later noticed a small coolant leak. The dealer said the coupling of the coolant hose and the coolant block had a small crack but could not be repaired by welding - the whole battery pack had to be removed, shipped to Torrance, fixed and returned. My insurance company is out $14,000 (yes, fourteen thousand dollars) and 4 months later I have the car back.
Thanks for Tesla team ...succes
