Has anyone had an amplifier installed in the frunk? I was under the impression it's not possible.
Anyone? A audio installer suggested it but I'm not 100% sure about it. Does anybody have any suggestions?
It is definitely possible. The biggest problem is passing the wiring to the cabin. You either have to drill through a 2 layer firewall or send the wiring through the door opening (what most people do). The door opening is much easier, though technically, the wire is exposed to the outside, so it is not very elegant.
If you're interested in a quality amp, your installer is going to use fairly heavy duty wires to the speaker. Hiding that becomes a challenge. I would tend more toward a location under the passenger front seat or in the basement if you don't have the third row seats. In the studio system, the side storage in the rear passenger side is taken up with the sub. Probably enough space between that and the basement to get both in.
Drilling through the firewall is my concern, 1) could it screw things up? and 2) would it somehow affect my warranty? Another option is putting it in the tiny area behind the lumbar area of the rear facing seats. Surprisingly a 5 channel hertz amp fits there. The frunk, however, would be ideal.
