Blown Introduction Webcast

I completely missed the webcast because I could not gain access to it. So much for all the invitations that Tesla sent me to tune in. The Tesla website is still woefully inadequate.

The whole TM serve farm was swamped. Took 45 min to get back online. The video of the reveal stayed up for ½ hr.
TM's IT facilities and resources are indeed 2nd rate. Not a priority, I guess.

I won't say "I told you so..." But I started a thread months ago ["If the Tesla website is anything like the Model S firmware, we're doomed"] about my concern of the inadequacy of the Tesla website infrastructure and how that may relate to their vehicular software.

Pathetic is being kind.

They are spending millions of dollars on showrooms, but not even pennies on their website...which will really reach more buyers???

Well, those few seconds I managed to watch the streaming-event was well worth it. I am definitely going for a 4-WD.
My old SUZUKI Vitara will have to last for a while longer. (ok ok, the Roadster will do all my summer-miles ) But it will be a long waiting-for !

Market is killing Tesla today.

I stayed up late to watch the webcast but gave up after around 20 minutes of being unable to get on. Not a good omen!

I was hoping they would broadcast it through ustream or one of these services instead of trying to handle it through their own inadequate infrastructure. Very embarrassing.

This is certainly not helping my view of Tesla. I want to like this company and I am an S reservation holder but after this complete marketing failure (they even sent emails out to come see the live broadcast), I am very disappointed. And I am not even talking about the Model X design yet....

It is unfortunate that the webcast was a disaster. That said, Model X is a cool looking car and should do well for Tesla, as they continue to extend their portfolio.

Go to YouTube and search for the Tesla Model X to find 4 videos that show the entire presentation. Looked great except for the fact that they struggled with trying to get the Frunk open. It never opened.

The Frunk did open after the presentation. It can be seen at the end of the video on Tesla's video account on Vimeo.

Some folks called this weeks ago. The Tesla site creaks and groans just under our board and the design studio usage.

It was apparent that this was goign to be a dog wash when at 5 till the start we still didn't have bars and tone.

IT folk, might as well submit your resumes to Tesla. I predict some vacancies there after last night's craptacular reveal.

If only. They just don't seem to want to invest more than the minimum. Very odd given Elon's b/g.

I was thinking exactly same Brian. Very low invest to IT and stuff. Throw in one car amount of money for hardware and hire couple technical IT gurus (costs a lot more than that hardware though) and this would have not been any problem whatsoever.

Anyone seen any official excuses yet? ;)

I heard that there was a bent bracket.

I understand the technological challenges involved with live webcasts. Even the folks at the TWIT network ( Leo Laporte and Co.) sometimes have difficulty streaming a live event and they are in the biz (granted they are not broadcasting from their own Space X facility!).

A dissapointment for sure however people (myself included sometimes) are being a bit too nit picky critical. I would say the rest of the Model X reveal (with the exception of frunk-gate) was warmly received by the critics. The web is saturated with Model X news. Tesla is doing a fantastic job marketing their vehicles without spending anything on advertising.

There is a kind humble integrity to what TM does. These events are informal, and not perfectly staged.

The subliminal message is that these guys are focused on their mission, and not on gloss.

Because it's a good mission, that is also very hard, even the screw-ups resonate as authentic.

To do something real and virtuous, and still do a better weekend box-office than most hollywood glitz-masters, is worthy of note.

If, when, TM has another online event, let's hope they learn. While it maybe "cool" to have so much traffic that it blows up your servers, this sucked for those that had several friends online during the event and had to eat humble pie.
