Very positive engadget review/test drive

Great read!

I am confused ! i was in the impression that charging was far cheaper than refueling yet the review states 165 miles = $10

I can do that easy in my Jetta wagon TDI...

"Environmentally conscious" New York and California have some of the highest electricity costs in the nation. Engadget was reviewing in NY, presumably downstate New York, which is a separate electricity zone balkanized into exceptionally high costs.

So cost of charging any electric car will vary quite widely based on the rate plan one is using and the time of the charge (if that is taken into account).

Electric cars can be as or more expensive than gas cars to fuel, and they can be much, much cheaper, depending on the rates.

Yes, rates can be quite low in other parts of the country. In my house, in AZ, I have off-peak Time of Use (TOU) rates of about $0.043. This translates to about $0.016 per mile using 85% charging efficiency. So that 165 mile trip would cost me less than $2.70.

WOW new york is ridiculously expensive ! thanks for the clarification
