Hi, we just got our Model S ( black/black/85) and are super excited about it. However.. Registration seems to be a bit of a pain in the rear. Hubby took it for inspection and nobody knows how to do it! Also, we are trying to figure out what to do about front license plate issue. DO we do it or leave it off? I saw a few cars without front plates in Houston, but not many. Any Houston owners with the experience here? We would appreciate your help and advice regarding registration and things related to it. Thanks!
Wow, that is so cool! Thanks!
This place needs a "sticky" thread about the search function.
Yes! Thank you! I posted a question on Houston forum and now can't find it. And I didn't get any notifications about new posts in the thread either.
I honestly dont know how the traffic law reads, but I have been driving both of my cars (in Houston) without front plates for over 6 years and never been cited. I have been pulled over and ticketed for speeding multiple times in that period and the plate is never mentioned. Everyone should assess the risk for themselves, but I am comfortable not having one.
Elena, try the Texas Club forum (http://www.teslamotors.com/forums/clubs/texas), but in short, you don't need an emissions inspection; tell them you need a safety inspection only! There's an entire thread in there about the registration process for Texas though.
Thank you, elmer. I think we are going to go without one too. Would be a shame to ruin that beautiful front.
Thanks, riceuguy- I was actually looking for that link! And, yes, they finally figured it out that we only need safety inspection
I live in League City, and left the front license plate off. I've been driving for two months with no issues. I saw in the Texas forums that many people had left the front license plate off other cars for years with no problems, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I followed the registration recommendations in the Tesla Motors Club (you've got the links above) and my registration was a breeze. Just bring the documents specified in the link and be prepared to pay the taxes. The inspection station I went to had never done an electric car, but once I mentioned that it only needed the safety checks, they found the proper form and I was done in a few minutes - everyone at the oil change/car wash/inspection station were gathered around the car and had lots of questions!!

My car is "being built" and just wondering the easiest way to hook up the iPhone to listen to iTunes?
Thanks!
